The problem is he has nothing else he can say. He preaches his way (the Process), and when his way falls flat, he preaches to do more of it. It's not because he thinks it will work at this point, it is because he has no answers.

He is a BS artist. Period. Most likely, he doesn't even believe what he says, he just throws it against the wall to see if it sticks. Honestly, the only quote I want to hear from Matt Rhule is that he is resigning. I don't care if he takes the Arizona State job, the Nebraska job, he goes into astronaut training for NASA, or he retires to Florida and plays golf every day and fascinates the club house with his amazing NFL achievement, he just needs to go. I don't hate the guy, but I have been around enough BS artists in my life to know they are not capable of anything other than BS. Truth is, if they spent half as much time trying to get better as they did figuring out how they were going to BS their way around not getting better, they'd probably be decent. But they don't.

Wiley Coyote has a better success rate than Matt Rhule. At least he came up with some new wrinkles every now and then, even if they didn't work out. And not once did I ever hear him say the process was working, you just couldn't see it.

The problem isn't that they may have a meeting at 1:30, the problem is people are reading too much into it. I would love to believe something rational is going to happen at such a meeting, but it is probably going to be a tap dance and discussion of "the Process." Don't apologize. You have provided more hope to the forum than anything that happened yesterday or most of the week before.

The Panthers have no identity. They have not had one since late 2018, in all honesty. Rhule can't spell identity. As a result, our identity is being defined for us: an NFL doormat.

Gifs to represent our feelings on the Panthers right now.

That is the way it usually works in the NFL. I don't know about Rhule's contract, since Tepper was busy trying to outsmart the rest of the NFL with him. Most NFL coaching contracts are structured like personal service contracts. So, he can be fired as the coach, but he continues to be paid but he can't go elsewhere for the term of the contract. He can't just sit on his arse for four more seasons and collect the rest of the money. It is almost like collecting unemployment, where he is required to try and secure another coaching position. But, if he goes elsewhere, there has to be a buyout (offset) to the former team. Rhule makes roughly $8.5M a year with his contract with the Panthers. So, if Northeastern Southwest Mississippi Institute of Technology State A&M pays him $3M a year, he'll get that and $5.5M from Panthers. Here is a link that talks about coaching contracts in general. Again, whether Tepper ran with terms normally in NFL coaches' contracts or tried to outsmart everybody, well, who knows?

Are we the worst team in the league?
Sgt Schultz replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
Who gets the honor of worst team in the league is a traveling trophy that changes every weekend. I suspect we are going to see it in our trophy case more than one week this year. The Falcons are looking like they want it this week. -
So, to sum it up, we are going to do the same thing and expect different results. Despite the fact that the schedule starts to get tougher.

Is Tepper trying to tank for a top pick?
Sgt Schultz replied to firefox1234's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nah, Tepper doesn't care about the top pick. Tepper is trying to prove he is the smartest guy in a 32-member country club of NFL owners. Right now, it isn't looking so good. In fact, right now his prized possession makes him look like the country club buffoon. -
At what point does Fitterer start taking heat too?
Sgt Schultz replied to BIGH2001's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's hard to tell where the line is between the GM and the HC in this organization, and that is all on Tepper. At least on paper, Rhule makes the personnel decisions. I think there are a couple we can say were mostly Fitterer because of the way Rhule (mis)handled them once they were on the team. But lacking that, we have to assume Rhule is the guy in charge of this circus. Strange how our structure looks like what you would find in a college athletic department. -
The worst thing that could have happened was to win today
Sgt Schultz replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
If that is the case, don't worry. We're pretty safe on that front. But, the Process is working, you just can't see it. -
To quote a friend of mine about his relationship with his wife, "I'm much happier since I gave up all hope." I would like to see/hear about them winning, but I am not invested in it. If they win, great. If they lose, I console myself with it being what I expected. We have some young players I would like to see perform under competent leadership, but that won't be this year.

Does 0-2 put Rhule’s seat red hot?
Sgt Schultz replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I doubt that 0-2 will get him on the verge of being axed early. It may virtually seal the deal later in the year, though and not because of the slow start. The first four games were among our best chances to pick up wins. If we walk out of September under water, it is going to take a huge turnaround or a lot of teams expected to be good to come down to earth for us to pull anything out of this year. Will the temperature among the fans and in the media go up? Absolutely, but neither group makes the decision. -
The moral of the story here is any competition among players for a position is only as good as the person judging it. I think Rhule may share a very ominous trait with one Marty Hurney. They both seem to think they see positives in players that nobody else sees. Unfortunately, there is a reason nobody else see it.

The whole "earning it" was most likely in response to criticism last year that they handed Darnold the job (not to mention exercising his fifth year) with no questions asked. So, like most people that have no idea what they are doing and catch some flack, they do the polar opposite in response (the other option is to double down). The difference between Darnold and Mayfield was the former has shown no ability to win on an NFL field. Mayfield at least has shown flashes and accomplished some things. Those saying it somehow earned Mayfield credibility in the locker room by having to "earn it" miss one thing about professional athletes: Mayfield earns respect when he proves they can count on him to produce wins or leave everything on the field trying. Winning some half-arsed "competition" means about zero.

Not I, said the fly. If we run Rhule (and Snow by default) out of town it will not be because this team will be a playoff team starting the day after they leave. We are going to probably suck at least through the end of the season, but if it gets to that point we have concluded we are going to suck either way. Which makes the decision to dispatch them one of cutting losses to see if we can move forward faster. It is also possible we will be better the day after we run them out, since changing from college schemes to NFL schemes can produce immediate improvement in the NFL. The problem is the personnel are built around the college schemes, especially of defense and especially on the line. Which means I would not be holding my breath for immediate improvement, but hopefully the bleeding would stop.

When the regular season was about to start or after week 1, my guess would have been Jacksonville last year or the Bucs in Schiano's last year (2013??). If the coaching staff, especially the HC, is enough of an imbecile the players will pick up on that pretty quickly. Schiano was a master at "that college stuff" some of which is not legal in the NFL, and the rest did not help the team win. As for the Jags, it was Urban Meyer. Who knows how long it took the players to conclude "this will not end well?" The early results for both of those teams do not exactly support a lot of great belief. But even if both of those teams were basically lost from game 1, that is some pretty rare air of coaching stupidity. I have no idea if what is in the OP is true. By the nature of things, some of it probably is (the truth is very rarely on one extreme or the other). I will say this: losing wears on people's tempers. That's when things start to leak out. I can't imagine the players were all that happy about getting their heads handed to them week after week last week, and the coaching staff standing there like Government employees. If any of this stuff is true, it will be tough to reverse without success. I think the sand is running out of the hourglass for motivational speeches, "the Process is working," saying we are getting better even while we are losing, etc. It has probably already run out for highly questionable coaching decisions and then implying the failure was on the players. We have guys in the third year of their rookie deals, and if they are counting weeks until they can move on, we are screwed.

Person says the Panthers will win this one
Sgt Schultz replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, the upside is our pass rush was bad, too. If that continues, maybe Jones will see no need to run out of the pocket. That will probably make our rushing defense stats look better, which in turn will give Rhule a silver lining to talk about on Monday. I wonder if Phil Snow has ulcers over this defense. It is his creation, but he should still be hitting the Maalox. -

The Giants aren't good in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, one way they are good is running the football. And one way we are terrible is defensing the run. That is a bad matchup for us. I think we can take care of business on offense, provided we don't trot out a game plan that involves us outsmarting the Giants and instead we outsmart ourselves. We have no business trying to outsmart anybody. As people said, this could go either way. Based on last week for both teams, if it comes down to the wire and a coaching decision, let's hope we have the option to phone a friend. -
He really spoke his mind in that clip.

Being tall certainly is an advantage, but we have seen some tall QBs fail miserably and some other QBs shorter than the norm do very well. Does he maybe wish he had a couple of extra inches of height? Sure. But strictly speaking, is he too short? No. Talent overcomes the lack of height, at least to a point. Flutie was the most extreme example I can think of, at least in terms of height.

OK, that explains his problem to start the game last Sunday. Get this man to an optometrist. He clearly can't see the field when our D is on it.
