  1. All of our last five games are winnable and that is not a stretch. Now, whether they are winnable by US is a different question. We are 3-1 in the division, but 1-7 against everybody else and that one win was yesterday, against a team that is pretty much in train wreck mode. To balance against those numbers, the Saints stink and look like what everybody expected the Falcons to look like at the beginning of the season. The Bucs can play down to anybody and have to be seeing buzzards circling. The Bucs play @ San Fran and Cincy at home. The rest is games against the division. The Falcons are the wild card in this discussion. Their schedule is not much tougher than ours, playing the Steelers, Bucs, @ Ravens, Cardinals, and @ Saints. It's a horse race to the finish. Granted, it is a horse race between plow horses pulling plows, but never the less..... We are alive because NFL rules state somebody from the NFCS must attend the playoffs. But, if somebody would have told me the Panthers would start 1-4, and both us and the Falcons would be in the division race as we head into December, I would have called a cookie truck to collect them and haul them off to the Happy Valley Rest Home.
  2. For Snyder, it is an afterthought. Snyder cares about one thing, and it isn't money. I'm surprised he hasn't built a 30-foot statue honoring himself yet. Pathetic, even for him. That takes some doing.
  3. Yeah, I was crushed to see that they lost in OT. I would have a tough decision about who to root for if they played Al Qaeda.
  4. It sounds like the Cardinals are exactly in the same place they were with them about a year ago....only with the contract extensions. Between that and the Rhule hiring at Nebraska and the offset, I somehow feel we are a little less incompetent than I did a couple of weeks ago. I'm not placing any bets on whether that feeling will last.
  5. That was strange at the time. Rumor was both Kingsbury and Murray were in some hot water there, and then they were both extended. I would not be at all surprised to see Kingsbury sent packing after the season. Disappointing does not do their 2022 results any justice.
  6. Isn't it obvious? If it is, somebody please let me know what I am missing. I haven't even started drinking yet today.
  7. We absolutely should not consider drafting Stroud. He is not perfect. Next year, there will be perfect QBs or us to choose from if we just tank. If not, there will be the year after that. All we have to do is tank in 2024 for that chance. If not...... The best is the enemy of the good, said Voltaire. I saw enough throws from him today to be okay if he is a Panther next year. Is he Peyton Manning? No, but if we are going to wait for the second coming of Peyton Manning out of college we will be waiting for a loooong time. Does he have work to do? Sure.....even Peyton Manning did. At some point, you take your shots and hope for the best, and we are at that point. Or, we keep waiting for perfect.
  8. Geez. A 75-yard TD run followed up by an 85-yard TD run. Edwards may need a nap.
  9. If you are a fan of Ohio State, the problem with Stroud is that he doesn't play defense. The fact that they did not put the ball in the end zone on the last drive was not on him. He put the ball where it needed to be, his TE got his hands on it, he just didn't secure it and the DB made a great play.
  10. That is his problem with Nebraska.....there are eventually going to be expectations of beating/finishing among Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, and UCLA. That is a tall order for the best college coaches, let alone a guy who hasn't proven he can beat any team with a ranking. I wish him luck, if that is where he winds up. I still think Arizona State or Colorado would be more his speed for now. That level of expectation might take a generation at either of those schools.
  11. Happy Thanksgiving all! May you all exercise great judgement at the Thanksgiving dinner table, carefully balancing your choices until you have eaten enough that you feel like you are about to explode. That is my goal, because I have given up on any other outcome.
  12. There were reports that Rhule turned them down and that they walked away from him. I wasn't interested enough to dig into it to see which one was more likely true. Colorado and Arizona State both have recruiting issues, trying to pull from California and Texas since the talent in their respective states is not enough. The Process can sound pretty convincing to a 17-year old. I've heard Nebraska recruits okay, but their coaching has been a bigger issue. Rhule doesn't help that problem, although he could improve their recruiting. I think Arizona State may be his best fit, only because Nebraska will start having grander expectations once the ship stabilizes. The Process has not proven it can consistently hunt big game in two stints in college and one in the pros. I wonder if Snow wants to have another go at it, or at 67 (next month) whether he has had enough? Without Snow, Rhule is nothing but hot air.
  13. The jury is still out, waiting for Michigan and their post-season. But, barring some implosion I'm find with Stroud if he is available when we pick. The article says he is steadily improving, and I have read similar observations elsewhere. People are throwing darts at all these guys as if we have some great alternative. We have one QB on the roster for 2023, and thanks to our former leader, we know absolutely nothing about him. The rest of the 2022 cast of characters is not worth bringing back. They're not even credible backups. I don't watch much college football. But we need somebody, and that somebody is not going to suddenly appear out of thin air. We are driving down a state highway, the gas gauge is on empty, it has been on empty for the last 30 miles, and some are wanting to pass the station that is coming up on the right because, well, that gas is not what we normally try to use. Hell, after this year I might say that we aren't driving down the road on empty, the car is on the side of the road and we are walking on the shoulder, two miles west of the car, gas can in hand, and approaching that same station. Given our situation, whether the sign over the station has the scallop shell, dinosaur, or just says "gas" we have little choice but to put a couple of gallons in the can and hope for the best. We can fill the tank up with what we want later if need be. That's the price for following The Process in his fantasy that he could bring flawed QBs back from the dead. It leaves you stranded on the side of the road.
  14. At this stage in his life he may not want to deal with Jerrah. Then again, if he was 20 years younger he may not have wanted to deal with Jerrah, either.
  15. It sounds like something that, if you are an AD at a major program, it will give you a pause about him. Everybody tries and fails at things. As long as they take something away from the failure that makes them better and helps reduce the likelihood of another failure, that is grown. He failed at moving to a level that many good college coaches before him have failed. The fact that he didn't own up to learning anything beyond BS, sounded like BS, could close some doors for him. He didn't grow, at least that he would admit. Geez, guy, act like a normal human being, not some guy on the tube at 1:30am doing an infomercial.
  16. This year's Panthers highlight video should carry the title, "Morbid Curiosity."
  17. Great job, @The Huddler. The inclination to watch is probably driven by the same force that causes people to gather in mass to watch a burning building or watch a plane crash on the news. The odds are overwhelmingly against anything good happening, but people can't tear themselves away.
  18. And for that crime he had to be banished. We really showed him. I'll bet Rhule pulled his scholarship, too. That whole escapade was when I started to think Rhule was a dead end.
  19. As a snake oil salesman, he probably realizes his snake oil is not going to get more appealing with time. The longer he is out, the less his prospects will be. His successes were places with low expectations. Temple is not synonymous with football excellence, and Baylor was fresh off a major scandal that crippled the program. His best year here was his first, with a team that had no expectations and little talent. As soon as the expectations started to rise, he wilted. If you are an AD in a big program with historical success and aspirations of regaining it, you have to wonder how he will do when there are expectations. Who knows, that may have been the breaking point with Nebraska. Had he been able to turn them around, it would not have taken long for the question of "why can't we beat Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State" to become a chorus. There is nothing in his record about producing wins against top teams. You'd also have to be concerned that the longest the snake oil wagon has been in any town is three years. While that might just go with the territory of being a "rising star," it does beg the question about whether he can sustain success once he turns a program around. Arizona State and Colorado are much better fits among the larger schools. Neither has won much of anything in several years, so expectations are not going to be a problem. They both have recruiting challenges, which is tailor-made for the snake oil wagon which sells its wares well to 17-year-olds. None of those questions will get better with age.
  20. Eh, what are you going to do? We had a strong suspicion it would get to this point when The Process was brought back for a third year. At some point, all you can do is laugh or it will drive you crazy. We are at that point for this season. On the bright side, there is some hope depending on who they hire to run the show next year. But for now, just pop some popcorn and enjoy the show!
  21. I think part of the reason the 49ers were trying to part company with Jimmy G was his contract. If I remember right he was going to cost them a Brinks' truck and, while they did not see him as the long-term answer, they were scheduled to pay him as if he was. Nobody else wanted that contract, either.
