  1. Outside the Atlanta game, Piniero has been money. This is one area we shouldn’t have to worry about this off-season. We can’t rely on Gonzalez to stay healthy enough for a full season.
  2. I like to see Shenault used similar to the way the Niners use Deebo Samuel. Sort of a hybrid RB/WR that is a monster at YAC. I think he’d excel in the role for us if we take the shackles off the offensive playcalling.
  3. And ditto on Robby A. Glad he’s someone else’s headache now.
  4. Yeah I’d have to go with Chinn though it may not be totally his fault. He seemed to never get on track after the hamstring injury earlier on the season and we can never seem to figure how to use him to his strengths.
  5. That’s a concern of mine as well. Has Joe Bailey, our current WR coach, been good at developing our talent at that position or could we use an upgrade?
  6. Quentin Johnston from TCU looks like a stud that would complement DJ and the rest of our receiving corps nicely. Great size/speed combo. Will be interesting to see how he performs against that GA defense.
  7. This I don’t want the HC job handed to just anyone, Wilks included. As someone posted earlier, he would have to sell me on a feasible plan to improve the offense and defense going forward.
  8. I have to agree and disagree here. I agree the Wilks biggest weakness is he’s not a strategist; he said himself a few years back that his philosophy is not about out scheming anyone, which is similar to the Fox/Rivera ideology. Good enough to beat mediocre or bad teams but susceptible to being out coached by the likes of Mike Tomlin, Bill Belicheck or other well coached teams. I disagree that leadership, character and the other qualities Scot mentioned are non-factors in being a good coach. In this aspect, he compares favorably to a Mike Tomlin but without the years of experience. May not make Wilks the best coach from a playcalling/strategy perspective as noted above, but the way the team has responded to his leadership over the past month or so proves that those qualities absolutely matter.
  9. I can see Wilks retaining MacAdoo if the offense produces well enough through the end of the season. Not my #1 option but wouldn’t surprise me. Sean Ryan has done a decent job as QB coach, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s retained, and the same goes for Campen. If there is to be a change at OC, then all of this is could be moot. I agree on Holcomb though I would hope we’d upgrade or at least augment the rest of the defensive staff. I’d hope we’d go with more experienced position coaches on both sides specifically DB and WR coaching.
  10. All the more reason to make improving our passing game our primary focus this offseason. Aside from the QB, we need a threat at WR and TE that can take the top off of opposing defenses and keep them from loading the box. If we can somehow put together a complimentary passing offense, we’d be hard to beat.
  11. I’m actually okay with keeping Piniero over Gonzalez. The latter has finished the last couple of seasons on IR which makes me question his durability going forward. We need consistency in our kicking game.
  12. Same here. My only issue is an underwhelming passing game which may have more to do with the inconsistencies at QB prior to Darnold’s reemergence. The offense has shown more life during the month or so than it has during the last 2 seasons under Rhule. But we’re still 3rd in the league in 3-and-outs despite our success in running the football. That tells me we need to do more to improve our passing and I hope whoever our HC ultimately is, Tepper, Fitt and co will make this a point of emphasis this off-season.
  13. The ol’ play-not-to lose conservative approach. Gotta love it!
  14. We may not have a choice if we somehow win the division and make the playoffs. We’ll definitely play our way out of a top ten pick which puts a top QB beyond our reach. Don’t know about a 6 year deal though…YIKES!
  15. Missed opportunity to salt this away with that last drive. Wasted a terrific catch by DJ Moore by calling it safe yet again. Glad we tacked on 3 more though.
  16. I’m hoping we look at other candidates as well. As someone posted earlier, some of these offensive “gurus” turn out to be not so good leaders of men, which is a more important qualification for a HC. I’m hoping Tepper, Fitt and co. will cast a wide net in their search. I’m curious to see for example what a Frank Reich (experience), Ben Johnson or Demeco Ryans (young up and coming playcallers) would bring to the table if considered.
  17. What you’ve described here is the difference between a coach that game plans to win vs one that game plans not to lose. Much respect to Wilks but he’s more in the mold of a John Fox and Ron Rivera. He’s good enough to beat inferior teams by running the ball and playing good D but he’s never going to outscheme or make the necessary adjustments against a superior opponent. That’s what Tomlin and his staff did against us yesterday, and we had no ability to counter their strategy successfully. The same thing happened against the Ravens. No answers once the running game was stopped. We are 3rd in the NFL with 48 and counting 3-and-outs. Says alot about our limitations on offense, but coaches like Tomlin, Harbaugh and Bellicheck successfully scheme around these and gameplan to expose opponent’s weaknesses to their advantage. That’s the type of coaching I would really hope we’re aspiring to bring here.
  18. This is why I’m perfectly fine with casting a wide net for our next head coach. I like Wilks but I really can’t see him coaching the Panthers beyond the mediocrity and inconsistency that has plagued this team for most of its existence.
  19. Sad but true. Mediocrity has been baked into the culture of this team. We’re not tough or talented enough to be a playoff team.
  20. They would’ve killed us with a better QB and play calling. They basically beat us at our own game.
  21. Much respect to Wilks but today confirmed a couple of things for me: 1) mediocrity and ultra conservative play calling is baked into the culture of this team for a long time. With the exception of a few seasons, we always have trouble with consistency. I’m not sure things will ever change with the current coaching regime. 2) our roster is woefully short on viable talent needed to play our brand of football, which certainly contributes to problem #1. We have too many holes to be a playoff team as things stand right now.
  22. Defense looking dejected. Straight up owned by the Steelers - 12 of 14 on successful 3rd downs
