The 1st gamble was trusting Marty. But I digress and you’re right.

Now we’re getting to the meat and potatoes of this conference. You can tell he values details and execution in all phases of the game and that’s great to hear. -

Basic coach-speak. Those fundamentals don’t change regardless of who the coach is. -
Holcomb’s is a good LB coach and defensive assistant. He’s miscast as a DC. Disappointed for him and Wilks that they were passed over twice but hope they’ll land on their feet soon elsewhere.

Fangio to Miami official....well...maybe... probably tho

Don’t blame him. Would’ve been a great addition to our new staff but there are other qualified candidates out there to choose from. Hope we find the right one. -
Miracle Whip is cool whip pretending to be mayonnaise. It’s a “miracle” anyone eats that stuff!

Ketchup on steak is actually not a bad thing? (here’s looking at you Tep) I’ll see myself out

Even a great defense can’t overcome the loss of two backup QBs. SF was pretty much done after that.

I see you CMC…Helluva run to pay dirt!!!!

Oh well. Miss one bus catch the next.

Not too impressed with Gus Bradley. I think we can do better. But I’m with you on Fangio or Evero. I would love to see our D consistently play to the level of the top defenses in the League e.g. 49ers, Eagles. We certainly have the building blocks for a top 5 unit.
-
I’m hoping we’ll give Evero consideration for DC if we can’t get Fangio.

Joe Person on possible coordinator candidates

We also interviewed Evero from Denver, the Broncos current DC. With inevitable staff changes coming, I wonder if Reich would consider adding him to the list of DC candidates? -

Fantastic news. I hope we can keep both. Something tells me Kellen Moore may be in consideration for the OC job as well. He’s interviews here twice and didn’t get a strong vote of confidence for staying in Dallas. He’s considered to be a bright offensive mind and could be looked at as a possible HC in waiting once Reich calls it a career. -
Gonzalez has sustained non-contact injuries that has landed him on IR the past two seasons. That’s a concern to me. If anything, we should bring in another K to compete with Piniero. He’s been solid since the debacle in ATL. JMO

Bozeman, Jansen, Piniero, Darnold in that order. Shaq depending on whether he can or is willing to rework his contract. I’d only keep Foreman if the deal is reasonable - a RB that’s still young but starting to show wear. Not sure if I’d keep Ioannidis beyond vet minimum due to age and injuries.

Panthers Let the Great Be the Enemy of the Good.

I would add the Pittsburgh game also. The Steelers with below average QB straight up punched us in the mouth and owned us the whole game. Darnold played well but the offense overall was lifeless with no consistent counterpunch. The defense, Wilks’ area of expertise, wasn’t much better. The Panthers was among teams with the most 3 and outs across the league. I think these games and to some extent the final game (a win - paltry offense numbers) made it clear for Tepper that a change of direction was needed. -
Impressive indeed…can’t wait to see who’s coming aboard!
-
Doesn’t surprise me. We’ve always had defensive minded HC that we’re satisfied with offenses that were run-heavy and “efficient” passing. Can’t win consistently with this philosophy in In today’s NFL. During the Pittsburg game, the announcers stated the Panthers were the third in the league in most 3 and outs. Hopefully, today’s hire will mean an end to our offensive deficiencies.
-
What do you think of him as a DC?
-
Defensive analyst/consultant? I could live with that. DC? Might as well have kept Wilks.
-
We could do better than Gus Bradley but his connection to Reich and possibly Fitterer (Seahawks) gives me reason to believe he’d at least be strongly considered.
-
Couldn’t agree more with Snith’s tweet but I’d add the landscape of the League was a driving factor in the hiring of Reich. This is why from the outset Tepper and co wanted a coach with offensive background. It pretty much stacked the odds against Wilks getting the job, although he rightfully deserved consideration and was a finalist. Getting one with Reich’s resume and experience was the difference maker.

Do you trust Reich to find us (and develop) a franchise QB?
Prowler2k18 replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
From what I’ve read, the unexpected retirement of Luck started the downward spiral of retread QBs for Reich in Indy and, as stated earlier, the Colts never seemed interested in developing a future franchise play caller. Based on this and where the team was roster-wise, you could make an argument that Irsay and FO felt they were a veteran QB away from being contenders. They weren’t in a position to really draft one as a middle of the pack team, thus the carousel of Rivers, Wentz and Ryan. Unfortunately these weren’t long term solutions and two of the experiments went terribly wrong. Hoping things will be different this go-round.
