I wouldn’t go that far but I saw enough during his time at UNC to know he’d be a good one. At worst, he would’ve been a better backup and potential future starter. And a major draw as a local kid. Of course, he may have looked as bad as Corral with Rhule at the helm but I digress.

How Rhule, Fitt and co allowed themselves to take Corral over Howell is beyond me. Always thought this kid would be a good one in time.

Piniero hands down. Gonzalez is good but he’s finished the last two seasons on IR due to non-contact injuries. That’s not good. The best ability is availability. We can’t afford to be in a similar situation that we faced in Buffalo last season. And Eddie has been money for us since the Atlanta game. It’s a no-brainer IMO.

I agree that Johnston would be a good selection. And we should take him if he falls to us. But several outlets I’ve read consider Robinson as probably the best overall player in this draft. If he’s BPA and a blue chip prospect, then he’ll be considered a top #10 pick. And for a team that plays the style we play, a bell cow RB that’s also a good receiver on a rookie contract is not bad value.

Levis, B Robinson, Johnston or trade back. TE @ #9 is not a good value. Either them would vastly improve our offense.

agree. I was actually pointing out Rhule was the obvious AND primary reason these players have underachieved so far.

Many of the guys mentioned have shown potential to be really good but have underachieved for various reasons, Matt Rhule being the obvious one. It’s why getting the next HC and staff hire right is so crucial.

Outside the Atlanta game, Piniero has been money. This is one area we shouldn’t have to worry about this off-season. We can’t rely on Gonzalez to stay healthy enough for a full season.

I like to see Shenault used similar to the way the Niners use Deebo Samuel. Sort of a hybrid RB/WR that is a monster at YAC. I think he’d excel in the role for us if we take the shackles off the offensive playcalling.

And ditto on Robby A. Glad he’s someone else’s headache now.

Yeah I’d have to go with Chinn though it may not be totally his fault. He seemed to never get on track after the hamstring injury earlier on the season and we can never seem to figure how to use him to his strengths.

That’s a concern of mine as well. Has Joe Bailey, our current WR coach, been good at developing our talent at that position or could we use an upgrade?

Quentin Johnston from TCU looks like a stud that would complement DJ and the rest of our receiving corps nicely. Great size/speed combo. Will be interesting to see how he performs against that GA defense.

This I don’t want the HC job handed to just anyone, Wilks included. As someone posted earlier, he would have to sell me on a feasible plan to improve the offense and defense going forward.

I have to agree and disagree here. I agree the Wilks biggest weakness is he’s not a strategist; he said himself a few years back that his philosophy is not about out scheming anyone, which is similar to the Fox/Rivera ideology. Good enough to beat mediocre or bad teams but susceptible to being out coached by the likes of Mike Tomlin, Bill Belicheck or other well coached teams. I disagree that leadership, character and the other qualities Scot mentioned are non-factors in being a good coach. In this aspect, he compares favorably to a Mike Tomlin but without the years of experience. May not make Wilks the best coach from a playcalling/strategy perspective as noted above, but the way the team has responded to his leadership over the past month or so proves that those qualities absolutely matter.

I can see Wilks retaining MacAdoo if the offense produces well enough through the end of the season. Not my #1 option but wouldn’t surprise me. Sean Ryan has done a decent job as QB coach, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s retained, and the same goes for Campen. If there is to be a change at OC, then all of this is could be moot. I agree on Holcomb though I would hope we’d upgrade or at least augment the rest of the defensive staff. I’d hope we’d go with more experienced position coaches on both sides specifically DB and WR coaching.

All the more reason to make improving our passing game our primary focus this offseason. Aside from the QB, we need a threat at WR and TE that can take the top off of opposing defenses and keep them from loading the box. If we can somehow put together a complimentary passing offense, we’d be hard to beat.

I’m actually okay with keeping Piniero over Gonzalez. The latter has finished the last couple of seasons on IR which makes me question his durability going forward. We need consistency in our kicking game.

Same here. My only issue is an underwhelming passing game which may have more to do with the inconsistencies at QB prior to Darnold’s reemergence. The offense has shown more life during the month or so than it has during the last 2 seasons under Rhule. But we’re still 3rd in the league in 3-and-outs despite our success in running the football. That tells me we need to do more to improve our passing and I hope whoever our HC ultimately is, Tepper, Fitt and co will make this a point of emphasis this off-season.
