  1. Thanks, @ellisfor a valuable post. You are not only right in your qualification of speaking about THIS year's cap cost, but , for me, you gain bonus points for your gracious and patient reactions to the repeated nit-pickings of an insufferable troll. Your thread, instead of starting a discussion of what great value we have from our edge rushers, immediately got derailed by an individual whose only goals are to see his name in print, and to convince himself (by repetition alone) that he's right.
  2. Excuse me, because I generally really like your topics -- but does every article (so it seems) on catcrave.com have to be a topic here? I don't see anything original in the questions raised above, that hasn't already been covered extensively on the Huddle. I have to assume you're doing this for clicks to that site. Tell me I'm wrong.
  3. Sorry, here's the link to the full article: https://www.panthers.com/news/jeremy-chinn-christian-mccaffrey-nfl-most-versatile-players-gil-brandt
  4. His argument for Chinn: "Every once in a while, a player with elite pro potential will slip through the cracks at the college level, and it appears this is what happened with Chinn, a second-round pick out of Southern Illinois last year who emerged as a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate while proving himself to be exactly the kind of player every defensive coordinator should be seeking in the modern NFL. Chinn is a back-seven defender who can match up against basically anyone, whether he's functioning as a linebacker, safety or slot defender. The offseason additions of run-stuffing linebacker Denzel Perryman and pass rusher Haason Reddick should give defensive coordinator Phil Snow even more options when it comes to taking advantage of Chinn's skill set." Brandt also raves about the versatility of McCaffrey, and names these 2 as the 2 most versatile players in the league. His argument for McCaffrey: "McCaffrey's spot could be justified by his 2019 season alone, considering he became one of just three players in NFL history to top 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. He basically was the Panthers' offense that year, accumulating a whopping 142 targets and 287 carries while breaking his own record for catches by a running back (with 116, topping his mark of 107 in 2018). It would not be surprising if McCaffrey's workload were to shrink a bit, given that he's coming off a season in which injuries cost him all but three games, but it's tough to conceive of an offensive player who can come close to achieving his status as a do-everything monster."
  5. Hey, man. What you doin' starting a thread?? You ain't @SBBlue! JK. Burns is elite, and will make a big impact on the league's QBs this year.
  6. There is NO CHANCE of either of these 2 things happening. Our weaknesses were identified and addressed, in the Draft and in FA. Our run defense will be vastly improved with the DT rotation we've now got, and the exponentially better Perryman in the middle, compared to that toreador we put out there last year (you could hear him yell, "Ole!", as the RBs ran by.) As for PD, the new version will in no way resemble last year's. Our pass rush will be fearsome, from every angle of attack, forcing quicker releases to WRs who will now be bumped off their routes. This leads to tipped passes, INTs, and -- most of all -- far fewer of those long drives and frustrating 3rd conversions that our prevent defenses were bound to surrender. This year, there will be no surrender. By season's end, our D will be the talk of the league. Our average PPG allowed will be <20.
  7. Not according to them. The ranking below is a projection of what we think will happen and not necessarily a reaction to a spectacular or underwhelming 2020 season They haven't announced their Top 20 yet, but they did already have 1 RB ahead of CMC, Dalvin Cook. That's open to debate, but to see Denver S Justin Simmons at #23 is a laughing comparison. He might be the best FS in the league, but factors in on far fewer plays. Such a list -- any list of "rankings" -- is only meant to spark debate, though. It's just Sam Monson's opinion.
  8. I don't know, but she had plenty of nice things to say about you.
  9. first line should read golf, not gold.
  10. Your gold analogy doesn't work. Are you aware that Bernhard Langer suffered from the yips for a long period, then cured them with mental exercises such as Slye is referencing, and has become the most successful senior golfer in history. Look it up I posted last week that visualization and positive thinking can work for athletes of all sports, and it appears Slye is working hard on that approach. We should expect vast improvement.
  11. That's a nice long list, but how could you omit Pickles?? Talk about failed potential! His go-to play was a short sideline throwaway to the cheerleaders.
  12. I don't know. I think his passive defenses were personnel based. Now that he's got CBs who can press at the line, we should see more aggressive alignments.
  13. And with all the offensive weapons he listed, he omitted Terrace Marshall, who will make an impact of his own. I agree with his assessments, BTW. Thanks for posting.
  14. An outstanding production, on every level of professionalism you can think of. Good to see some transparency from management. The teamwork, from Tepper on down, in that war-room, was textbook perfect -- no ego trip from the owner, just standing by, injecting a few comments, but like a good general, trusting his officers. Two things stood out: each time, before pulling the trigger on a pick, Fitterer went around the group, asking if they all were good with it. Maybe for the show, but it speaks loudly about the participation and joint involvement. Second, when Horn teared up on the field, fully realizing this was real, it was his mama he was callling, not his dad. He knew what she had done for him, too. Nice moment. (And Rhule is as genuine, open, and real as they come. I have a feeling his players are gonna give everything they've got for him.)
  15. Keep in mind, guys, that these ( and any betting odds) are always fluid. The books set the prices at a point they hope will attract equal action from both sides, thereby making them a profit no matter which side wins. But when enough money comes in on one side or another, they change their lines, with the expectation that support will even out. The odds you quoted a week ago are no longer valid, thanks to the recent betting action they've booked. Panthers are now 66-1 (Super Bowl), 25-1 (NFC), and 6-1 (NFCS). I got down on the NFCS at 10-1 back on 5/3, when I first saw the opening prices. I'm sure they'll change many times again before the season starts. Another thing to keep in mind -- if you bet with a casino, you've obviously got to buy your ticket with cash, and in these cases, that money's tied up til the season ends. Well duh, you might say, who didn't know that? But if you have an account with a private book, you're extended a line of credit, and don't put anything up front, only paying when the outcome is decided. Settlement is usually the Monday after the previous week' action is over. If anybody has any questions as to how to go about this, PM me.
  16. @joemacyou're the only one here who makes note of this crucial difference in this year, and last. Everyone has it all riding on Darnold's effectiveness, but CMC's return, the open lanes he'll find from Tremble's blocks, the TE improvement, and the depth of our defense -- these will all result in more wins from last year, regardless of whether Darnold does better than Teddy (which I'm convinced will be the case.) Our schedule is against weaker teams, we've improved our roster with a strong draft, and CMC is healed. 9-10 wins easy, IMO. I just bet 200 to win 220 on Over 7 1/2. (money up where my mouth is)
  17. Agree. Lack of height is meaningless, unless a defender can jump over him. Low man wins in the trenches.
  18. OP, when exactly do you see us playing the Raiders?? Are you confusing us with the Ravens? Your thread title is misleading, at best.
  19. There's a class reaction for others to learn from, guys.
  20. Panthers win the division with a 12-5 record. Brady out for the season, with early injury.
  21. Class. Rare here. Class.
  22. OP, shouldn't you have edited the thread title to read, "Ye Olde...?"
  23. That's a good way to look at it. Here's another: by taking Fields in the 1st, what do you have? 1 starter, one on the bench. by taking Horn, what do you have? 2 starters. Which alternative has more value?
  24. Mike, with that avatar, you need to comment more often.
