I've compiled how we stand in various categories of Defensive Stats (using NFL.com). They quantify just what a juggernaut of defense Phil Snow is creating. #1 Rushing YPC (2.6) #T2 Rushing FDs (8 total) #2 Passing FDs (23) #2 Passing Yds Allowed #T2 Rushing TDs Allowed (5) #3 Passing Completion % #3 Points Allowed (to Phil & Den) #3 Net Pts Scored/Allowed #T6 Passing TDs Allowed (3) That's why I call our D a Snow Storm

Having played in Gainesville, you best believe he was well aware of Jacksonville's rep. He looked like he'd been charged with a felony, and had no lawyer. Whatever "mental health issues" he might or might not have experienced, subsequent to that low moment in his young life, he will be as overjoyed as Sam Darnold to have escaped from their respective dungeons. I expect a handsome return on this investment.

Jumping offsides is one thing. These "lining up off sides" calls are bull.

They were looking at those 8 points their relatives took with their local bookies. Don't tell me gambling won't corrupt some of these refs.

He has impressed in many ways, but 2 stand out to me: 1) he shows no fear -- in standing tall in the pocket, under a rush that he knows in gonna hit him -- and in the 4th and 1, and GTG situations in which he's called to carry the ball. That 1 yd TD, where his helmet was knocked off in the scrum, was vintage Cam. 2) he's shown accuracy and velocity in his throws, especially in the crucial 15-20 yd range. Tight targets don't deter him.

If he quacked, we'd be calling him a duck, right? So let's call him a successful QB, thus far unbeaten as a Panther. It's called the eye test.

Make preparations, then.

Our (over)confidence has no bearing on the game. Now, if the players all thought that way, it might be different, but Rhule is a one game at a time guy, and they won't. Best believe that our D is PROUD to be ranked #1, and they will play to keep it that way. I know there are question marks (there always are); 1st away game, Thursday past record, Darnold never played from behind (for us), there may be more I'm omitting. But dammit, there's too much that can't be ignored here -- WE'VE JUST GOT TOO MUCH TALENT, and far outclass this poor Texans' team. Their QB will be engulfed, like a palm tree in a tsunami. Red zone TD passes to Arnold and Marshall, CMC runs amok, 5-6 more sacks, 2 INTs and a fumble recovery, much joyful EZ celebration. Never in doubt. 45-3. 3 extra days to scout Dallas. Life is good in the Carolinas.

Thanks for passing that clip -- what a scary sight for OCs to see in their film study. Hard to block all those torpedoes coming at you. I'd note that, if you count the time between snaps and contact with the QB, it LOOKS sudden as a lightning bolt, but many hit after 3-4 seconds. This means it's NOT JUST the ferocity of the rushers, but the coverage by the secondary, highlighted by Snow's switch from soft zone to press man. I don't care which QB we have to face -- Dak, Brady, Murray, Allen -- they'll all feel the unique pressure we bring.

If I had a $ for every time a poster here has said "fug the Saints," I could just about pay off my mortgage. Keep 'em coming, boys. (oh, and fug them Saints.)

Most talk about Sam's available weaponry makes no mention of Arnold or Zylstra, who both made big contributions Sunday. Props to Sam for seeing them open and delivering to both on time and on target. There are simply more offensive possibilities with this lineup than most other teams can imagine, even historically. "Greatest Show on Turf," maybe, or the Steelers with Franco, Swann, Stalworth, etc, but not many others. Expect some games with 40+ pts. We're that good, and just starting to get the rhythm.

Consistent AND diversified, which is maybe more significant. Reddick has 3 sacks through 2 games, and Burns has 2 -- but the hard to block against factor is this: we have 8 guys who've been involved with sacks! Who you gonna double? Pressure comes from everywhere -- the octopus defense.

I suppose you mean some of us optimistic types on the Huddle -- but I'd rather think you could be referring to the Bucs.

Agree with you (as usual) completely. Opposing OCs will have their hands full, preparing a plan to find a weak spot in our D, though.

Not quite yet. That'll happen if we win the next 2 games. Right now, the talking heads will probably chalk this one up to the poor depleted Saints' roster, and of course, the Jets' win meant nothing. When the "experts" come out with their revised Power Rankings, I doubt we'll move up to the top 16. Which suits me fine.

If it's that obvious to us, I'm sure that the coaching staff recognizes it, too. Either (or both) blocking personnel changes, or using play-action in the RZ, should fix things. Houston has surrendered 21 to lowly Jax, and 31 to Cleveland. I have no doubt we'll be able to put up 30+ against them.

Every pre-season, there'd be a few posters suggesting we change to a 3-4 front, but they'd always be shouted down by the irrefutable logic that we DIDN'T HAVE THE PLAYERS TO DO THAT. Now all this "versatility" emphasis has changed all that nonsense. Remember the "amoeba" fronts some DCs employed? We've now gotten ourselves an "octopus" defense.
