A critique of Darnold through 4 games
bigdavis replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
That sounds good, but if you never admit to being wrong, it's pretty shallow self-praise. Don't know how you got to be a Mod here, and don't care. Buy there are more than a few regular posters here who all feel your a negative damper, about a team that's currently got better record than all but 1 other team, and about a QB you never wanted to be a Panther. It must irk the f___ out of you that he's doing as well as he has, so you gotta bring out some timing issues to harp on, rather than just manning up and admitting you were wrong about him. This isn't an "echo chamber", and we're not "triggered". We (and I think I speak for more of us than you do on this) are plain happy that the kid has done has well as he has, and see a bright future for him, and the team. Now go piss on that post, and be sure to Moderate your enthusiasm about him, as you do it. -

That's a good point. All those posters demeaning his rushing TDs aren't analyzing them, but are equating them to Cam's style -- entirely different. Darnold has 5 rushing TDs in the first 4 games, more than Cam -- or ANY OTHER QB in the history of the league (SB era). And what makes them special is that (unlike Cam, who'd just launch himself over the pile from the 1) Darnold has only been TOUCHED on 1 of those 5. So let's give the man credit. He's reading the defense on those 4 TDs, a lot better than they're reading him! It seems like there are posters here (I won't call them Panther fans) who have holdover resentments (Fields?) that we ever signed him, and will never accept him as our QB. His record is so far more than acceptable -- W/L, %completions, yardage, TDs, you name it. So he's missed some open receivers? Happens to every QB. I support and admire what he's done. The ones who pick apart some arcane stat he lags behind at are either missing the big picture, or are hopelessly swirling in their own bias. -
My prediction: we will be in the playoffs this year. Even after yesterday's poor performance, we've allowed only 66 points -- best in the NFC, and (probably after tonight) 3rd in the NFL, behind only Buffalo and Denver. Only 1 team, Arizona, has a better record than our 3-1. 3 wins out of every 4 games we play will equal 9-3 when we reach our bye week. Of the next 8 games we play, only Arizona has won more games than they've lost. The team sounds like they took this loss as a wake up call. This season is far from over.

A critique of Darnold through 4 games

I can't believe you haven't heard the term. It's not the time from the snap to the release, of which you speak. It's the time from the windup to the release, how quickly the ball gets delivered, the throwing motion, if you will, once the decision is made to throw it. I'm surmising that Sam's "release time" is very fast, a flick of the wrist, not some big Tebowesque windup, and that could somewhat offset what you state is a slow TT. Can you access that time? https://www.wolfsports.com/nfl/tom-brady-jimmy-garoppolo-among-quickest-nfl-quarterback-releases-throwing-motions/ -
For sure he couldn't be expected to play every snap on the OL, but the idea of subbing him in on a jumbo GL unit could work, couldn't it? No pass pro or footwork to worry about there. Just grunt n go.
-
But wouldn't that slow down his processing time?
-
Sub package? And I don't think there's ever been a player in the NFL who's played all 60 minutes, so?

The Cowboys offensive line committed zero penalties
bigdavis replied to Eazy-E's topic in Carolina Panthers
The inconsistency of which you speak stems from the subjectivity of it all. Not reviewable, entirely dependent on the vision (or whim, or bias) of the ref, yet carrying a penalty twice that of a procedure, or offsides. I don't know WHAT, if anything, can be done about it, other than having the refs be mindful of OH calls getting out of balance in any one game. They could tally up how many went where at halftime, and even it out accordingly. It's not whether there's Holding on any one play; there almost always is. Then nobody could say they got hosed -- like we did. -

Your points are valid, but keep in mind we did (Sam did) put up 28 on those guys, despite all the bad calls, despite a line made of swiss cheese. That should win us most games. They must do more, but I don't think it's entirely accurate to imply they're not "going." It's early in the season, and our Offense, without CMC, is still a work in progress. -

Covered the line, though, didn't they? That's fine tuning. -

Would be nice to be able to monitor deposit activity in the bank accounts of Jerome's relatives. Anybody recall a single game that marble-mouth has called fairly against us. This went way beyond mere incompetence, IMO. -
A critique of Darnold through 4 games

Ah yes, the old pithy dismissal. Lazy and the hallmark of a guy who doesn't want to answer a simple question. Oh, and if you missed my question, it was about Release Time. Do you have those stats? Would love to know where Sam stands on that metric, vs all other QBs, not just rookies. -

Or at least wait until he doesn't throw for 300 yds and account for 4 TDs, against a team as demonstrably phenomenal as America's Team. Criticism yesterday might better be directed at the bad tackling by our vaunted Defense. But I assume they'll get plenty of that from their coaches. -

A "critique" would be fair-minded and balanced. I didn't hear any commendation for what he does well (like get us back in the ball game in the 4Q with 2 TDs!) Yes, there were missed connections; yes, he should get the ball out sooner. Could you use your access to these advanced stats to enlighten us as to his average Release Time. If it's low-to-mid 30s, then I'd say that mitigates the underlying basis for your criticism (as opposed to a "critique.") -

That's nothing but a back-handed compliment, if I ever heard one. You've never liked him as our QB, and if I (or anybody else) wanted to take the time, there are many, many posts from you that made that point, that I could produce. Odd that you'd take the time to start a thread, criticizing one of the bright spots on our roster, after a loss that should be blamed on other causes than Darnold. I'm not "triggered." Was that your advance warning to all the Huddlers, not to oppose your bias? Sounds like the kind of tactic used the last year or two by the liberals who call people racist who oppose their CRT policies. NO, I'm not calling you a racist. I hope you and everyone else reading this can understand that. It's the "trigger warning" I don't like. It's petty thought control. If you want to throw a few fractions of seconds metrics out there to justify your criticism, how about considering these stats that we poor plebes can understand: Through 4 games, Darnold has accounted for 7 TDs, and has thrown for over 300 yds in the last 3 games. This despite an OL that has more holes than the colander I drain my pasta through. I think you're so consumed with justifying your early dislike for obtaining him, that you seize on the most trivial of stats to jump on him after our first loss. Look in your mirror, and see if I'm not accurate. If you can be the man it takes to admit that, I will admire and praise you for it. But if it takes you longer than 2.37 seconds to do it, then I rest my case. -
I believe YGM's absence hurt our run D. That's where the game was lost. Despite the atrocious lack of blocking by our OL, Darnold and Moore played a whale of a game. Our 28 pts should have been enough point production to win.
-
And hopefully to us.

Did I have to use the sarcasm font for you?

Dear Lord and Creator God, we know that, since the beginning of time, all participants and their supporters, on both sides, in every contest and war, have come to You, knowing full well that You are on their side. Of course, one side does not realize, in their pagan ignorance, that theirs is not the True God, as is ours. Firstly, we ask that all participants (especially ours) survive without injury. Keep us from being smug in our coming victory, lest we act as insufferable as would our opponents, should the unthinkable occur. After all, this is only a game, and we must treat it as such. Should we (shudder) lose, it is not the end of the world, or even the season. But God, in the name of all that's right and holy...these are the Cowboys! Let us rip them a new one! Amen.

Some insights on the CJ Henderson tradeā¦
bigdavis replied to *FreeFua*'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I got some psychoanalysis right here... I doubt this kid majored in philosophy or English Lit in college. So let's not judge him on speech patterns, or even coherent thought progressions. He is an elite athlete, gifted for the position he plays on a team. He knows that. So...when he can foresee a career of losing with a snakesbelly team like the Jags (what a great name!), it hardly instills desire, much less confidence. Now...fast forward to last week, when he gets the word he's now on an unbeaten team, with the #1 Defense in the f-ing WORLD to be a part of! He may not be able to spell euphoria, but I guarantee he felt it. -
Funny thing is...you won't remember any of this in the morning.

Ouch! Thanks.

Is Part II on the pass rush out yet? Maybe I missed it.
