Hypothetical Question that I'm sure will remain civil

I feel like someone other than Young would get the short end of the stick -
Panthers sign wide receiver Damiere Byrd

SPEED KILLS!!! He hurt us last year when he was on the Falcons. Good signing! -
Is it time to take the Falcons seriously?

But Bryce Young did good on a test...right??
WarPanthers89 replied to PanthersGOATFan336's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t have the energy to point out to you why a cherry picked highlight tape or play is a bad counter point. This seems to be a situation that would be like arguing politics or religion with someone who has blinders on and can only see one side. I’ll say again though that both QB’s are extremely talented and that I will be happy with either one. I will trust our coaching staff which is one of the most experienced in the league with this choice and will be thrilled with whatever choice they make because they have a job and reputation on the line if they get it wrong. -

The S2 scores are not the selling point for Bryce Young over CJ….the tape is. It’s as simple as that. I’m happy with either one but I’ll trust our great coaching staff with an extreme amount of NFL experience both playing and coaching over the huddle or TC collins on twitter -
Brees was 6 foot even 209 pounds. A little off on the measurements but point still remains the same. Cam was 5 inches taller than bees and about 50 pounds heavier and is still out of the league. Height and weight are not the main factors in staying healthy in the NFL as a Qb if you have pocket awareness, a quick release, and mobility within the pocket. Young was not facing midgets on a week by week basis playing for Alabama. The guys he was playing against was not 6 foot tall 225 pound D linemen I promise you that

OP brings up a good point but what if that does not happen? We have very little depth at all for tackle and guard. If Icky gets hurt BC slides over and who plays his position?
-
True. I love cam and will always be a huge supporter but still making the point that size is not always a factor in long term health in the NFL. Smitty outlasted many who were bigger than him and he had some vicious collisions over the years
-
Yeah we should get a 6 foot 5 QB who is built like a DE. He will definitely last many years in the nfl with that body type just like Cam did. Meanwhile look at how long Drew Brees played in the league

Get ready for Derrick Browns next contract…..
WarPanthers89 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I mentioned it was not an apples to apples comparison but still good to talk about what his number may be a season or two from here if he continues to get better as he has already shown. -

We DO have that cap Magic now. That’s why we have the 2nd largest amount of cap after all of our recent signings. Look at the structures of our recent free agency signings. TMJ is no where near worrying about a 2nd contract yet and WR contracts have taken a big step back this offseason. -

Yeah if they are on each layer of the defense. Every team has an expensive vet at each level of a defense. Plus a rookie QB wage scale gives toy a ton of flexibility. Again Saints were 100 million over the cap and are now middle in the NFL in cap space even AFTER signing Carr to a 100 million dollar deal. -

I really believe Brown, Burns, Horn, and hopefully Chinn become our building block home grown stars over the next few seasons. You can’t let young talent like that get away that you helped develop. Our cap team can always make it work, Saints we’re 100 million over and are already middle of the pack in the nfl cap space after signing Carr to a 100 million dollar contract. You can afford to lock these guys up with a (fingers crossed) franchise QB on a 5 year rookie pay scale. -

I agree. The earlier the better. -
Obviously different players so no I am not saying this is an apple to apple comparison. I would like to discuss Browns next contract through and what we can realistically expect to pay. Cap goes up every year and Brown is growing into a really impactful player and has improved each season. It’s a slow time so get off Young and Strouds jock and let’s discuss some hog Molly future contracts in Burns and Brown. ARTICLE: Word that Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons agreed to a contract extension with the team on Friday has been followed by reports about the terms of the deal. Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports that there it is a four-year, $94 million deal for Simmons. Simmons had been set to make a base salary of $10.753 million under the terms of the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Closer looks at Simmons’ new pact will show further details, but Davenport reports there is $66 million in guaranteed money and a $24 million signing bonus. The annual average of the deal puts Simmons behind only Aaron Donald among defensive tackles. That will be of interest to a number of other teams and players as they move toward deals of their own. Simmons’ fellow 2019 first-round picks Quinnen Williams, Ed Oliver, Christian Wilkins, and Dexter Lawrence are all looking for new deals this offseason and Simmons’ agreement — along with Daron Payne‘s new deal in Washington — will likely have ripple effects through their own negotiations in the coming weeks and months. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/04/07/reports-jeffery-simmons-deal-is-for-four-years-94-million/

Instincts, feeling pressure, having an internal clock is something you cannot measure. Size does not matter….limiting contact escaping pressures quick release it much more important. I see people compare young to Tua which I can see, but he has an injury history and his size does not tell his ability to sense/feel/escape pressure. Cam Newton is a perfect example of an all time QB size wise and he’s out of the league currently because of the hits he has taken. Tom Brady was tall but not big bulk wise by any means, he’s also always been a statue in the pocket and played well into his 40’s
-
You really want a 6 foot 5 QB who is built like a DE. That way they will definitely be durable and less likely to get injured and play into the age of 40 like Cam Newton….oh wait.
