remember when the Panthers hardly ever ran a screen
WarPanthers89 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well with us starting 73 QBs this season who haven’t been good at throwing the ball…..that does help contribute to the numbers we see on the chart lol. I feel like that was 30 percent of the passing game with PJ and Baker -

Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?
WarPanthers89 replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
If this happened it would need to be for barely above top backup money. He can serve as a bridge QB or be one of the best backups in the league, but no way should it be anywhere close to top 25 QB money, even on a short term deal of say 1-2 years. He’s not a franchise QB and he has looked good because of our running game, and offensive game plan around running the ball. His stats have improved because teams are loading up stopping the run, almost daring us to throw. Darnold has done a good job of pulling through when faced with this coverage, but hardly a sign that he is capable of putting the team on his back and being anything other than a mid range QB at his best. I’m not against signing him to be a bridge/top backup but we definitely should keep swinging and take a QB in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft, left the rookie and Corrall battle it out along with a vet such as Darnold, or go for Carr/Jimmy G -

But what if we did. What moves would you make at coach and direction of the team? -

Random drunk thought here but how would you feel if the following scenario played out….. ***We win the next two games and win the NFC South. Home playoff game*** What direction would you take if you were make believe Gm this upcoming offseason?? Here is mine: -Steve Wilks is signed as our next head coach -We sign an exciting name as OC and have Macadoo back in another role with the team (our offense has been much improved lately) -We re sign Darnold to a one year deal (he has has a 104.3 rating currently) and give him an opportunity to COMPETE for a starting role or be our top tier backup QB. We go into the season with Darnold, Corrall, AND rookie QB as our depth chart. -We re sign Bozeman to a 4 year deal, Foreman to a 1 year deal -Extend Burns (which will also help cap next season) -We sign a top tier TE (such as Schultz, Ertz, Gesicki) -We use our draft picks in round one, two, two, three, four, four, five on BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE that could be any position of need Off-season decisions/needs -Add one year to Shaq Thompsons contract to decrease his cap hit or cut him? If you keep him you are set at LB, if you cut him you have to sign a FA or draft LB high -DE to start opposite Burns must be a draft pick. If we re sign Burns we will have good money tied up in the position. We have good depth with gross Matos and Haynes but both are depth only. We don’t have the money to sign a good player in FA so you need to draft one using a 1st or 2nd round pick depending on how the draft falls. -Is Marshall our WR 2 for next season? -QB? Do you draft one in round one? If not do you take another shot with one of our two second round picks.

ARTICLE: When the Panthers named Steve Wilks their interim head coach in the wake of Matt Rhule’s firing early this season, team owner David Tepper said that Wilks could hold onto the job on a permanent basis if he does an “incredible job.” Tepper didn’t specify what would qualify as an incredible job, but going from 1-4 to NFC South champs would make for a pretty good case. The Panthers can do that with wins in the final two weeks of the regular season, but defensive tackle Derrick Brown said on NFL Network that Wilks has already convinced the locker room that he’s the right man for the job. “I’ll speak for everybody in that locker room and say that we want coach Wilks to be our next head coach,” Brown said. “That’s for sure. I think every single week when we come in, he’s gonna tell you exactly how it is. He doesn’t sugarcoat nothing. He keeps it plain Jane, per se. He lets you know exactly what’s going on. You can be one of the best players, but you walk into that building on Monday and he’ll tell you exactly how he felt about how you played. That level of clarity — that’s exactly what we want.” Tepper has given no indication about his thoughts regarding Wilks’ chances of retaining the job into next season, but they should be pretty good if the players’ belief in their coach translates to a couple more wins. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/12/28/derrick-brown-we-want-steve-wilks-to-be-our-head-coach/

Our version of being like Dallas?
WarPanthers89 replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
We are signing him because he is our best opinion at CB who is a vet and familiar with the system. We have a must win game coming up this week and we very well could face the cowboys at home if we win the division. Not many guys we can pull of the street and expect to play in 5 days -

3 year - 36 million dollar deal according to projections from Spotrac. Yes he needs to be priority one to re sign in my humble yet correct opinion. I don’t care if his PFF score is a 20 or 100, I know that this man passes the eye test, performs well, is a fantastic teammate/leader, and is a throw back to the big nasty hog mollies of the past. Our line is a great mixture of young and vet, and by signing him we can solidify this line for years to come. Please think back to last year and how our like made you feel compared to this year. The man didn’t have an opportunity to work most of the preseason and was benched as a backup by Rhule yet he immediately came in and was the difference maker we all expected when he got a chance. Him and his wife have already planted roots in the Carolina’s and he turned down more money to be here this off-season. This is the type of player you reward, he’s 28 and can get a nice 3 year deal to lock in our line and build with a rookie QB or Jimmy G/Carr/Bobby Boucher.

What say ye fellow Huddle make believe GM’s? Say another team offers Foreman a long term deal this offseason… Do you match a long term deal (say 3 years) for good money, or do you let him walk? I say Bozeman is priority 1 to re sign, then you have to decide if it’s worth spending money on Foreman. When Darin Gantt was ask if we will re sign Foreman, this was his response: “Foreman was genuinely wondering if he was ready to retire and get on with his life's work at a certain point, as injuries kept him from ever establishing himself his first three seasons. But in the last two seasons, he's shown that if you need to replace an All-Pro running back in midseason, he's your guy. The job he did last year replacing Henry in Tennessee, followed by his jumping in and becoming a bell-cow back after the McCaffrey trade this year, has been impressive. He's a free agent this offseason, one of the few non-quarterback free agents the Panthers have. He's earned the right to see what the market bears for him, but I could see keeping him around if the price is right. He's a physical back, and I think because of the beatings he administers (and receives), you'd probably be wise to keep him in tandem with another back or two (like Chuba Hubbard and Raheem Blackshear). He's a big Newton's second law of motion guy (Isaac, not Cam). If force equals mass times acceleration, having 235 pounds of faster-than-he-looks Foreman behind a literal ton of offensive linemen (when they go with seven or eight on the field at a time) sounds like quite a problem for other people to solve.” https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-hope-for-the-holidays
