Panthers sign wide receiver Damiere Byrd
run-run-pass-punt replied to Jackie Lee's topic in Carolina Panthers
He must be really constipated. fwiw, I like him much more than what Shi has shown thus far. -
And we still don't have a laughing pie emoji, smdh.

Did the S2 TEST take CJ out?
run-run-pass-punt replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
You'll never have any aptitude or intelligence test that results in a 1:1 "this QB will succeed and this one will fail" clarity. There will be correlations to greater or lesser degree, but there will *always* be an element of conjecture in evaluating any potential draft pick. As desperate as teams are to make it "hard science", it's ultimately a fools errand, and intuition will always be an important factor. You have to have evaluators with "football eyes", and even then, they will never be able to avoid misses entirely. Fingers crossed. -
There are no accidents. Now if we can just figure out who's back or where they went.

We are in the “everyone is lying” zone of pre-draft
run-run-pass-punt replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
I just find it amusing. It's not like we'll know that fate of the franchise after the pick either, lol. It will still be more speculation without resolution for a good while, even after the new QB has had time on the field. And just when you think you've got it all figured out, the apple cart will get spilled unexpectedly. Life is a journey, not a destination... -
It would be quite the contrast in stature going from our last #1 pick at QB to BY. It would also be quite ironic if the little guy manages to play a mostly injury free career, while the hulking specimen we had in Cam was just destroyed. Granted, in large part, due to play style. (and also from refs not treating him like other QBs) But life is *full* of the unexpected, so if we do take BY, I'll be hoping from some of that absurd universal humor to land.

Sunday Ticket pricing for YouTube announced

The powers that be know how easy it is to exploit people for the maximum return, and they have no hesitation about doing just that. But you don't have to play their games. -
Josh Klein on the recent Bryce “smoke”
run-run-pass-punt replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I'm Houston, I would think it would be so easy to find out if it's just smoke. Inquire about a move up and if we indicate a willingness to consider it, it means that we *aren't* set on our guy as BY, which mean he will most likely be there at #2. So the mere openness to negotiate, if the BY talk is smoke, gives away the charade, rendering any talks pointless - from the Texans' perspective. -
Young's built sturdier than Stroud per BMI
run-run-pass-punt replied to MechaZain's topic in Carolina Panthers
Injury risk is possible on every play at every position. I just prefer Stroud because I think he'll be a better player, in the end. But I still think, against all trends, that both CJ and BY are going to be successful QBs in the league. Both will need to adjust to the NFL though, but they've each got some excellent tools to do so. Not too long until we find out who we're hitching our wagon to. -
For me, Stroud is the right balance of already-present skills and future potential combined with the least risk. You can never be sure, but looking at all the prospects, he's got the most reasons to be the pick for me.

I like the current uniforms just fine, but change is always nice as well. I really hope we're going white helmets.

I have no sympathy for the NCAA either, or any of the other endless forms of greed and corruption out there. But things aren't going to change in a meaningful big-picture way. One corrupt entity will always be replaced by another, or the strong (haves) will exploit the weak (have-nots) in a new way. It's just the nature and prevalence of greed in the world that where we live.

Formal education is mental bulimia, nothing more. Shove it in, spit it out - there you're "smart" and "qualified", lol. John D Rockefeller really did a number on society. “I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers.” - JDR What really happens in school is that you are taught to defer to authority - be in your seat on time, go where your'e told when the bell rings, learn (not through experience) but by being told what *IS*...to get in line and be subservient to the system. I've learned far more from my own volition and interest than I ever have via official "instruction".

Yes, I understand, but you can't retroactively right every wrong. The litigation would have no end...oh wait.
-
You MUST have the processing capacity, both in terms of comprehension as well as speed of diagnosis. You cannot play the position otherwise. And you must also have the tools to get the ball there on time. But average tools can still earn the grade, while average mental capacity will likely see you as a bench player, at best -more likely not in the league. So, it's a mix surely, but strongly tilted to the cerebral side in my view.

Yep. I mean life's not fair, and timing affects everyone. What else is going to happen - MLB players from the 80's suing because the pot got bigger? We all wish for optimal circumstances, and we all have our gripes, but that doesn't mean you can always get what you want - or what others have gotten, fair or not.

Young VS Stroud, the greatest Panthers debate ever?
run-run-pass-punt replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's going to end up being one of four scenarios (this is assuming it's only a discussion between BY and CJ): 1) We couldn't lose. (both are great franchise qbs) 2) We couldn't win. (both bust) 3) What a huge mistake. We took the wrong guy and paid a ton for the privilege in the process. 4) We nailed it and dodged a huge bullet with our choice. Praise be! Two of the four are perfectly acceptable. The other two are varying degrees of torture. Personally, and against most all historical trends, I think option 1 is going to be the result. But again, history would most certainly like a word with me. I want CJ, but I think we're going to be ok either way. -
Thursday night flexing and the Panthers
run-run-pass-punt replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
The f**king greed of the NFL and Amazon knows no limits, as is generally the case with all greed, lol. I know how the world works, but I just grow weary of its mechanisms. -
Athletic article on top prospects
run-run-pass-punt replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes, me too. The QBs job is to distribute the ball. If there's a guy that can do that at an elite level, and you have the chance, I don't know how you don't grab him. -
It's fun to hope and speculate, but it's all noise until the pads and helmets start popping and the x's and o's start doing their dance. One nice thing is that there is genuine reason for excitement and optimism right now, however things ultimately play out. Just enjoy the moment. We're on the clock...still.

Would it not be smart to keep M.C around?
run-run-pass-punt replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wouldn't get rid of him so casually. In fact, if he shows the new coaches enough potential, I'd rather dump Dalton if we only keep 2. I recognize his value as a mentor and reliable backup, but young QBs with potential don't grow on trees. I hope the staff doesn't just discard him if he shows something. -
I mean, he's got tools for days, but unfortunately the QB position is about much more than just the tools. Some guys develop, but as we've seen throughout history, most guys don't. He's just not worth the gamble for me. Maybe if we had stayed @ 9. But we've got the pick of the litter, and there are two guys who look, to me, like they'll be successes in the NFL. No matter how AR ultimately pans out, I think it would be a foolish and unnecessary risk to take him. I hope he succeeds and, if he does, he'll be electricity personified, but he still isn't the wise choice for me, all factors considered.
