Yes, this is what I've been trying to tell people. I love Deshaun, great player. But I just don't see how we trade for him. We simply can't do it with Teddy, our cap doesn't allow it. So, any deal for Deshaun must either include Teddy, *or* we have to trade Teddy PRIOR to trading for Deshaun. Now, with Houston bringing in Tyrod, it make that trade even harder. In fact, as far as cap goes, a Deshaun / Teddy swap sucks for both teams. It's just a crap situation all around. We don't have the cap to sign anything resembling an NFL QB unless we first ditch Teddy. Clearly, that's not going to happen. It's looking more and more like our best option is to move up and get a QB through the draft.

With our current roster and cap, we can't sign anyone really, let alone an actual NFL QB. Everyone is all excited about Deshaun, but I'm baffled at how anyone expects us to fit him. The Texans surely don't want Teddy with Tyrod already in house.

That was Darius Rucker, who now sings country of all things. I guess if we're being honest Hootie wasn't too far off that.

Honestly, we should EXPECT this. A team that is short on talent is always going to sign more FA's than a team with abundant talent. I think it's fair to say our team is on the "short" end of the talent scale right now.

We still need another good DT to hold the point of attack. That lineup in the OP screams "Run right at them". I love that defense as a 2nd and 10, Cover 1 look with Chinn matching up on the TE vs pretty much any 2 WR set.

Mike Davis is the one most likely to garner a pick. Maybe Rasul Douglas, John Miller or Chris Reed. Assuming we don't re-sign any of them.

People pissed about this Hurney decision to keep Curtis instead of trade him need to go back to last offseason and remember what Curtis was THEN. Prior to 2020, the dude had 100 catches for 1200 yards . . . in his CAREER. He was catching at a rate of 55%. Curtis was not good at that point, he was potential. I suspect we were offered something in the 4th round range for him. I wish him only the best, but I'm glad we didn't feel a need to pay him that kind of money.

It was never a 2.1 million offer. That's the point. The lowest possible tender was 2.1 mil, and we didn't offer that, we offered something less. I'm not bothered whether he stays or goes honestly. Nice story, seems like a great guy, but his career is short, and he should make all he can while he can.

Also important for us to understand (with all our signings) how much of that money is actually guaranteed.

Disclaimer: I am assuming Deshaun is innocent (because, well, that's the law). If he did something wrong he should receive appropriate punishment. But, working under the presumption of innocence . . . If this was a ploy to try to retain him, it was grossly misguided. It doesn't take a lot of digging to track this back to a very close orbit of Cal McNair. Even if it wasn't attached in any way to the Texans organization, this sort of thing would make me want out were I in Deshaun's shoes. Get me out, let me start fresh somewhere else.

Agree. This isn't to say WE end up with Watson, just that it looks like the Texans are looking to move on. I still think the Jets make the most sense.

With their cap space, any player the Jags are interested in, they can get. Shouldn't be all that surprising.

Based on what, a hope and a dream? The dude has produced. He made $10 million last year. He's out produced Curtis Samuel and done so consistently despite playing in fewer games. Curtis is gonna get $10 million. The only knock on Fuller is injuries and the PED suspension. Someone will take the chance that he's past that stuff. For Amari Cooper level production, someone will risk it. I hope it's not us.

This is complete fantasy. We can't resign Curtis but we can sign Fuller who has greater market value? Nah. Perhaps we are interested, but we are not serious. We can't spend 15 million plus per year on Fuller - most of our remaining cap - and still have no QB.

Honestly, these are good signings for us. It enables us to go into the draft and not feel pressured to reach for a player because we have a huge hole to fill. The fewer holes you have entering the draft, the better.

If Mond is still there on day 3, and we haven't solved QB by that point, I would 100% take him there. I don't think Mond is an NFL QB. But he's shown enough to make me uncertain of that. He has tools. On day 3, it might be a gamble worth taking, because if he is an NFL QB, he has the physical tools.

Lance definitely has struggled with throws to his right. Not just at his pro day, but it shows up on film as well. In nearly every case, it comes back to his inconsistent lower body mechanics. When he gets his feet correct, he can throw to the right. When his feet don't agree with his arm, or when he's lazy with his feet, he tends to sail it to the right. A QB coach could probably tell us why that doesn't happen nearly as often when throwing left, but I can't spot it. His mechanics are inconsistent no matter where he's throwing, but it seems to be that the results of that are far more obvious throwing to the right. It's all a question of whether those mechanics can be cleaned up. It's not that he doesn't know how to do it right, because at times he shows really nice feet. It's just . . . inconsistent. A really good QB coach may be able to fix that. I suspect that, at best, he's got an "ok" QB coach at NDSU. In fact, they don't have a dedicated QB coach. They've got one guy who is "Associate HC / Passing Game Coordinator / QB's" coach. The talent is there, no doubt. If his issues can be fixed, if he can put it together above the shoulders, the guy could be the best QB in the draft. Answering those "if's" is the challenge. Those if's really scare me at #8.

He looked good for a guy who didn't really have a 2020 season. It improved my opinion of him somewhat, but consistency is still a concern.

I get it. I don't think we're going to be able to retain Samuel, someone WILL overpay him. I think we can probably replace him with someone like Elijah Moore or Kadarius Toney in the draft.

We think similarly, but not exactly the same. I value "win fast" in a slot receiver way more than "win deep". I want to see quick and consistent separation from the slot, you like that too, but want to add in deep threat where I want to see high catch rates. Interesting. Appreciate the insight.

He seems way more Damiere Byrd than Steve Smith to me.

That really makes me think the Patriots are looking QB in the draft. Is there a more Bellichek QB than Mac Jones?

Not sure I agree there. I think you're correct that CMC will never be that "deep threat" that Curtis was, I'm just thinking "Do we care?" You've got both DJ and Robby who are deep threats already, I think what you really need is that route runner who can win quickly in short to medium areas. I feel like that has CMC written all over it. I think Curtis was successful last season for a couple reasons. First, his catch rate was literally eye popping. Everything that came his way, he caught. Whether that's sustainable or not isn't important to the concept in this discussion. Secondly, Curtis was constantly drawing the opponents third or fourth corner depending on how they dealt with Robby and DJ. Curious how you're seeing it.

There is no excuse for Teddy being the starter next year. Too many other options exist. I am not a huge Kellen Mond fan, but seriously, the tools are there. His inconsistencies are largely tied to his sometimes ropey footwork. Dude has some legit arm talent. I see a lot of similar traits (and comparitive results) to Josh Allen. Obviously not in the first round. I would be a lot more excited to watch Mond than TB5, I must say.
