Part 2 of players I like in this draft for us
shaq replied to Bostonheelfish's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a great list, Shemar Stewart has quickly become a draft crush of mine. When looking at his production it’s terrible, only 2 sacks in his best season. But, when I watched his tape you see a powerful monster of a man who is one of the few DE that can drive an OT straight back to create pressure. He gets consistent pressure, he just doesnt finish plays. 32 pressures and only 2 sacks is an anomaly, he has the ideal physical profile that is simply rare in today’s game. And his frame and size allows him to be a dominant run stuffer, I doubt he ever becomes an elite pass rusher while he’s a freak athlete he doesnt have elite bend which in todays game is shared trait among all elite pass rushers. But, he will be one of the best run defenders in the league, and an 8-12 sack guy in his prime. Considering our needs, if we traded back a bit to the 15-20 range and drafted Shemar there I would be a super happy camper. -
This is just ridiculous, I would understand if you inferred he could be used as a wildcat QB or Cordarell Patterson type scat RB. But what are you even talking about? Abdul Carter makes zero sense as a comparison, he has been a defensive player his entire career and also was put on pass rush situations many times prior to fully switching to DE. Switching players from offense to defense or vice versa never happens, unless your a Travis Hunter who has proven that at the collegiate level on both sides. He wouldn’t just be learning how to play OLB he would be learning the basics of tackling, pursuit angles etc that you learn while being a defender for years. On top of the fact he’s a projected day 2 wr, why would he switch or how would a team get value back?

Tony Pauline: Panthers like CB Will Johnson

Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell(RD1 and Cooper Dejean(RD2) last year, went from the 30th ranked defense last season to the best in the league. Obviously, adding Fangio has a lot to do with that but their defense is so elite because of both their monster Dline and secondary. It’s a synergistic relationship, more QB pressure = more interceptions and breakups. And better coverage = more time for the DLINE to get home. -
As a Penn State fan I could not be happier, Dani is a DAWG. Will be a first rounder next year. If you like Dani as a prospect I think you would love Jared Ivey, he is a big 6 ft 6 285 DE, great run defender and has a true bull rush aspect to his game. Needs to add some tools to his pass rush belt but I think he’s gonna play in the league for a while.

If we sign Milton Williams I would literally poo my pants with excitement, my dream FA signing.

Dani Dennis Sutton returning for his senior year.

Lazy comp to be honest not every speed rusher is Burns

Panthers have been so much fun to watch since Bryce got the starting job back!

Bryce Young is the comeback player of the year

Bryce balling out week after week and he still gets all the doubt in the world here

That’s actually a really good idea, would solve this problem for years to come.

I mean if they got his contact info, a short text could go a long way. Such an easy change but would really help the community.

Please update the draft forum from 2023 to 2025, it’s long overdue quite literally two years. This is a really big offseason for us and many of us are excited to talk and discuss this upcoming draft.

I hear your point, but I think you’re misunderstanding my question I initially posted. WR is a need 100%, I agree Tmac is a great WR. I was asking the OP what he thought his role was with our offense, as I saw him post about Tmac before and assumed he knew more about him.
-
WR corps are like a basketball starting 5, you need a balanced group. Coker, Leggette both are vertical receivers which is a role Tmac excells in. I love Tmac the prospect, and wouldn’t be mad at the pick but personally I think our assets would be better used on a smaller faster slot option later in the draft.

HOT TAKE: Go Offense this offseason again.
shaq replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
#1 We have a historically bad defense #2 Colston Loveland will 100% not go top ten, like actually there is zero chance. His highest yardage season is 649, that does not translate to top 10. #3 Tyler Warren is a much better TE prospect -
I think Tmac is a stud as well, my only question is do you think he fits in with our WR corps/Bryce?
-
For a draft class without a first round pick coming into the draft, very good results all around. Leggette is having a fine rookie year, gonna put up a 500-600 yard 5td season. Typically, rookie WRs who pass the 500 yard threshold tend to succeed historically. Plus, he does have upside traits due to his athleticism. No doubt, he needs to work on his hands and especially work on catching away from his body. But, you definitely can see his ability to threaten the defense vertically. I think a lot of people made the comparison to Deebo Samuel coming out of the draft, but honestly especially the way we use him he reminds me more of a DK Metcalf mold. He’s a bit stiffer like DK, but he has the strength to beat press coverage and long speed and size to threaten vertically. Makes sense considering Canales experience with the Seahawks that he’s putting Leggette in a similar role. If he can seriously work on his hands I don’t see why he can’t at the very least be a very good #2 WR. Which is not bad value for the 32 pick whatsoever. Combine the fact that he is wholesome and hilarious and clearly loves the game. We need faces of the franchise and it’s clear to me that’s a role he will play going forward. I trust Canales here, he has a plethora of experience at WR. He was a long time WR coach prior to being a OC for the Bucs.

Not sure about Abdul Carter just yet...

This is one of the most flawed arguments I’ve seen on this board. I hate to break it to you but every single player in the NFL is motivated by money, as is 99% of the world’s population. Also, please give some evidence to substantiate your claim that he is “terrible at breaking down the game”, very bold claim to make with zero evidence. It’s actually funny to hear people judge players abilities when they clearly haven’t even watched them play. A true junior putting up 10 sacks in the big ten is beyond impressive. He has started for PSU since his freshman year where he put up 6.5 sacks. While yes this is his first year playing more true DE, he has experience pass rushing and is definitely not a raw rusher. And to go along with your claim he is not a team first player, he has stated a multitude of times he will play wherever he is needed. And has spent a good portion of snaps this year dropping into coverage and playing LB, that assumption is just out of touch. We would be lucky to draft Carter with our first pick. Also, for all of you who claim Abdul is a horrible run defender you might be shocked to know he leads the entire big ten in TFLS with 19.5.Carter leads the Big Ten with -
Dane Bruegler’s pick for Panthers plus a few others in top 10
shaq replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
That argument could be made about any prospect, I would be surprised if he came in under 250 for the combine. “Carter's physical development has been worth watching this offseason. Strength coach Chuck Losey said there was "no process, no plan" for Carter adding weight. On the most recent Penn State roster update, Carter was up to 259 pounds after he was listed at 250 earlier in the spring”. He generally fluctuates between 259 and 252, during the season it is harder to maintain a higher weight. -

As a hardcore Penn State fan, Abdul is a game wrecker. One of the fastest first steps you will see, the fact he is getting this type of production his first year at DE is insane. His potential in the league is off the charts.
