I was there too. At no point was it ever nearly a winnable game. The defense played well, and got turnovers. I will give you that.

I think you have a very sepia-toned memory of that game. We had 4 turnovers, 130 total yards, and Fasani racked up 40-something yards passing. Sacks put the team passing yards to 20 that day. We complain now about Young having 150ish. His performance was so terrible, it spawned a phrase, Fasani Magic, that would have been a meme if memes existed then. There was no nearly about that game.

The 2003 win at Tampa. It was their home opener following their Superbowl season, so banners were going up, rings were distributed, and they were opening up with a patsy team from some hick town in NC that was coming off another losing season, and still had 1-15 in recent memory. The way the game played out was also shocking.

I don't really like giving the the offense the ball at the 1. Either the defense did their job, and caused a turnover, or the offensive player was an idiot and dropped the ball while going into the end zone. Another 1 that gets complaints is the pass interference penalty being a spot penalty in the NFL, instead of 15 yards. Defenses would be incentivized to commit fouls on every pass over 15 yards. That said, it is annoying that a real strategy is to go fishing for PI calls.

The only real thing going in our favor is that the Rams are making the cross-country trip for a 1pm kickoff. I do not think that will be a significant enough hindrance to them. Instead of mid-30s, maybe they only score in the high 20s.

I don't know if I would say the media is against Young. They know that a good story with a redemption arc and a positive outcome equals dollars. What I think has changed is perhaps there is no longer that feeling that another bad organization has ruined another young player by being a bad organization. Additionally, there was a tiny little bit of perceived unfairness in his benching. "They didn't even really give him a chance, and what do you know, they benched him for an old white player too." To that end, the Panthers have gone above and beyond giving Young the opportunity for success.

Don't care either way really, but if I had to put money on a team in this game, it would be on the Eagles.

I think some fans that are counting the days until Young is gone just might be counting for a long time unfortunately. Why would Tepper pull the plug on our franchise record-setter for passing yards in a game? Why would Tepper say, "no mas," to all those thrilling game-wining drives? Why would Tepper no longer be enthralled with league-best big-time throws? I'll believe it when I see it.

I would say that the heavy lifting to get the Chiefs in the playoffs becomes a bit heavier at 6-6.

Still plenty of time to finagle and scheme a Chiefs win out of this game.

Williams went to NC State.
