getting ready to make my next thread, "how would you feel if we let Bryce walk and he won a super bowl a few years later like Darnold while we played Goldie locks with our QB situation?"
He won't though, unless it is the way Kenny Pick-it is a Superbowl champion.
Hell, even Adam Morrison managed to win 2 NBA championships with the Lakers.

He had 9 rushes for 22 yards and 3 receptions for 23 yards in 3 games in 24. He barely touched the ball in any meaningful way. He didn't have any attempts last year.
Yeah, I don't know in what world that counts as looking good.
Really, expecting and counting on any significant contribution from him is foolishness.

Brock Purdy played the Seahawks twice right after Youngs' game and averaged 145 yards (passing and rushing) with 0 TD's, 2 INT's and a fumble in those two games. So he had around 60 more total yards per game but Young did at least have one TD. Purdy makes 53M a year.
So what is Purdy's fair market value?
Why would I care about a Niners player and what that player is getting? I am not a Niners fan, and have no comment on what they might pay their players. It's not my concern.

Real ones know the Seahawks game ain't the one. Nobody was open. Seattle’s secondary had us and most of the NFL in a chokehold. The Rams were the only team that actually figured them out
The real failure was the 49ers game. That matchup was incredibly winnable, and Bryce complete ass
The Niners game was awful. The usually shitty defense came to play for whatever reason at the start.
That said, you can't begin to excuse that Seahawks game performance by saying the opponent was just too good, and then claim that Young is a franchise QB. That is the exact scenario that a franchise QB is supposed to overcome.
The math ain't mathing, and It just doesn't work.

I've heard its a Austin clone with more blondes. One of my best friends moved there and died, huge man and love to party....it was too much for his big heart!
That's not a bad comparison. Austin is a little more geared towards being a counter-culture college town, "Keep Austin Weird," but the increase in blondes is certainly a thing. It should be a good Superbowl site, with plenty for out-of-towners to do and blow money on, if the weather cooperates.

I went to Nashville for the draft, it was amazing, but I have no idea how they will be able to support the infrastructure for a SB
I last visited Nashville about 10 years ago. It had a cool little downtown area, and you could walk right over to the stadium from it. I am sure things have changed, but I know they do good business in conventions and bachelorette parties and related. Maybe there are infrastructure improvements on the way as part of the stadium.
The new stadium will be domed, but I wouldn't trust central Tennessee weather in early February.

it would be nice to win the division convincingly but hey, we never held not making the post season back to back season against Cam.
The team won the division 3 consecutive times with Newton under center. That would be back-to-back-to-back years of making the postseason.
Bryce Young is no Cam Newton.

And also WAY below #24-26 Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and CJ Stroud.
Stroud could be a real factor. He's made the playoffs 3 seasons and won a game in each season. Young should absolutely come in under whatever Stroud gets.

His representatives would be pushing for at least Daniel Jones money as a starting point in negotiations. Which if you are someone operating with functional brain cells would be a HARD PASS.
I think so too, if not a little more for negotiations.
There's a bit of an irony there since the Giants were painted into a corner on that deal when they resigned Jones.

Not anywhere CLOSE to Matthew Stafford at #14
Agreed. I edited to say maybe Mayfield @ 33per. Baker is better though.

Malik Willis is making $22 million a year which is good for 16th in the league.
No way in hell should we pay Bryce Young top 10 QB money unless he is actually walking on water.
Here is the list. Where does the market put him, again as a former #1 overall that has made the playoffs?
Hurts is 10. Just a nudge over 50. Maybe around Mayfield. That puts him at 33per

Bryce’s contract:
‘23: $7mil
’24: $8mil
’25: $10mil
’26: $12mil
’27: $26mil

And y’all wanna pay him $50mil? GTFO.
I’ll take Kyler Murray for peanuts over him any day.
I don't want to pay him anything. I want him gone.

I think the hard-headed steadfastness to not bring in any real competition for Young, or have anyone in the developmental pipeline, has boxed us in a bit on what will ultimately happen.
We do have Superbowl-winning QB Kenny Pick-it waiting in the wings, so I guess that is something if it becomes a break glass emergency.

To be fair they've both made over $100m in their careers (Murray - $170m, Tua - $124m) so they're extreme cases.
I suspect neither wanted to come here with absolutely no chance to unseat Young.
There's more to it than just that. Murray not only has an opportunity to take that job, but he also has a coach now that is widely-regarded as a QB-friendly coach.
Tua no longer has to play outdoors in Buffalo, New England and New Jersey, and instead now has Tampa, and indoors in New Orleans, an indoor venue for home, and a real shot at winning that job as well.

What job in America do you get rewarded with all-time historical money for below mediocre performance?
NFL QBI don't think he gets Dak money. I think he comes in under Lawrence at 55, but in that ballpark. 45-50 if I had to guess. It will not be some low-ball, prove it type deal. He's a former #1 overall and made the playoffs.
We are not in a great situation with him

That will be us in a couple of years if we make the same mistake.
Unfortunately, I think we are already at that precipice this season. If he is even modestly successful this year, he's getting a new contract. I don't think it will require playoffs, I don't think it will even require double digit wins. Think about how it could be spun if we end up with just 7 wins. That's only 1 less win than last year, against a 1st place schedule too.
So, it sets up a problem, do you want to lose out, and get a fresh start?
Or stay the course and reward Young with 50 million?
Next year has some big QB prospects.
I just kind of feel there are certain forces in the organization that are itching to crown our new franchise QB.
Should be an interesting year.

Kyler Murray and Tua both signed 1-year $1mil deals to be backuos. Think about how bass-ackwards this is.
Little bit of a false equivalency as they are getting paid a substantial amount of money from their former teams to just not play for them any longer.
But yes, there were most certainly better options for backups than who we settled on.

"Carolina can win with complementary football if the offense continues to trend in the right direction."
Absolutely true. Neither side of the ball will be standout and we will need both to meet some expectations if we want it to be a successful season. This shouldn't be a controversial take.
The unfortunate part is there are always unknowns and variables that can stack up to derail games and entire seasons. I think a lot of media, outside of Rich Eisen so far, have been giving those chances of unknowns and variables a better than fair shot of being a negative factor to the Panthers.
As an fyi, Eisen continues to promote the Panthers chances this season, but he also didn't abandon the Bengals last year when Burrow went down. So there's that.

defense looked better when Wharton was out
Agreed. He is a fine rotational role player that we paid to be something of a difference maker.

Those 2 sacks will be hard to replace. Hope he gets better soon.

Could be worse. The early bye is not a help, nor is the extra preseason game.
The road games can all potentially be difficult places to play.

RE: The Colts.
Pretty sure I remember hearing 1 of Irsay's daughters is running the whole show now and thought it was a good idea to trade those picks away for Gardner. There was a photo of her wearing a coaching headset on the sidelines during last season. Might be 1 of those things where there is no one able to tell her no.
