  1. That's has shown to not be very reliable, as I know you and I have both heard for years and years now how soccer will 1 day take over sports in the US, because all the kids play soccer. The appeal to college football specifically is in pride for your school specifically, and region second. Both of those factors are going to resonate with a more mature audience.
  2. If Mayfield goes out with an injury for the remainder of the season, and all the Falcons contract covid, maybe then. Maybe.
  3. He is good at that. You should add it to the "What does Bryce do well" thread if it's not there already.
  4. A bit of clarification, because I don't think these viewpoints are necessarily off. I think the appetite and demand remains steady, no matter as the quality and competitiveness declines. I don't think there will ever be a collapse as in a nosedive of ratings and attendance and relevance. It is too ingrained in American culture. Either way, the toothpaste is out of the tube.
  5. Not convinced that it will reach that collapse point, and that is entirely on the fans and consumers of the product. I think there is something real and tangible to the dissatisfaction from fans about how college football operates in particular with this new age of NIL and transfer portal. "There's no loyalty or identity to a school anymore." "Paid employees." "Mercenaries and that's all." Conferences are all done, except for the name. The geography has been obliterated. Historic rivalries are gone and a good chunk of the character of college football has gone with it. Eventually, I see it becoming a set-up akin to how Premiere League Soccer operates, with teams being segregated out. We are very much on that path already. For years and years, it was operated as a free farm league for the NFL. The only thing that has really changed is it is no longer free. Times change, but it does go against the ethos of what college sports are perceived to be about by the public. Despite that, consumption remains high.
  6. Just imagine how great it will be when they eventually expand the playoff to 24 teams, or more. There will still only be 3 or 4 teams that have a real chance of winning the national championship, but the money-making opportunity will be too irresistible.
  7. The only action the Panthers should consider is if they are selling, but I doubt any other team would be buying. The only way we get markedly better is hitting it out of the park in the draft. We need a few of those Morgan-Jenkins-Smith drafts.
  8. Cleveland is capable of winning games with their defense. That is not the Panthers.
  9. Tough break for Vandy. They almost had the recovery.
  10. They are averaging 8.4 pressures and 2.41 sacks per game. Doubling it sounds reasonable.
  11. Well, feels like a winning streak is just around the corner now.
  12. There is no reason to watch a June matchup on tv between bad teams such as the Pirates and Rockies, unless you have money riding on the game, or you are just a diehard fan. True enough. There are some rule changes that have been brought about to prevent some of that downtime in the game as well. There is a distinct difference when you are at the ballpark compared to watching a broadcast. There is something special about going out to see a game for your local team in the minors. It really almost harkens back to a simpler time when sports were just sports. I think the 162 game season is too long. World Series elimination games, and Stanley Cup elimination games are in a class by themselves. There is a definite tension and anticipation for the duration.
  13. Can't bring myself to watch UNC football tonight. Not when it's Game 6 of Blue Jays-Dodgers.
  14. Wilson could be a great new mentor for Young. He could also say, "Keep Pounding."after every interview question and presser.
  15. Graphic from Panthers reddit.
  16. I too think he should've been kept, more so after that deal was declined. It's a premium position, and your team either has the ability or they don't. There is not really an inbetween. Doesn't matter any now though, and that's fine too. Not my money, not my choices to make.
  17. I am of the opinion that in the long run it doesn't matter. I know it kind of sticks in the craw about passing up the 2 first rounders for him, only to not sign him, and ultimately ship him out for less, but I am confident we would've spent those picks on stupid poo anyway. It's what we do.
  18. 13 sacks on the year so far. Half of those came against the Jets. NFL.com has us ranked 26th overall. We are probably good then, right?
  19. Not paying Burns is 1 thing. Attempting to bolster the pass rush with nobodies and has-beens is a completely different matter unfortunately. Maybe we should draft another wr?
  20. They shouldn't pick up his option, but it would be prudent to expect them to do exactly that. Dalton needs to be released. Beyond that, there are some names on that list that may not be a bad short-term investment. I don't know that any should be viewed as a long-term solution. It would be surprising if Jones isn't held on to by Indy.
  21. Dalton last posted a winning record in-season in 2015. His fall-off is not recent or new.
  22. That will make for a little extra salt in getting beaten. On the bright side, at least it's not those god-awful Steeler bumblebee uniforms from several seasons back.
  23. Mutually assured destruction.
  24. Remember when the fear was he would be so good that he would be snapped up for a head coaching spot after the 1st year? Good times. The only team stupid enough to want him is us.
