  1. To the couple of Wentz comments..

Would he be eligible for the PS?

Assuming he is, I would wonder about the speculation that would come with him being on the team. As in, "When will Wentz play?"

I think he has way too much baggage and name recognition.

All I’ve heard from the Huddle the last 8 years is that you can’t be successful without a stud QB.  If that’s the case, we are better than the other 3.  I’ll take a rookie Bryce Young all day long over Carr, who can’t connect in the red zone to save his life.

I think what is on most minds is that rookie qbs always seem to go through some period of struggle. Maybe they hit a physical wall, going from 12 games to 17+preseason, or the expectations start to creep in, and the game is just different from the college game and it takes an adjustment period.

  3. Saints have really aged out. I believe they are the oldest team in the league now. They have the best roster as long they can keep them on the field.

I don't think the Falcons are very good. The thing is, they do 1 thing really really well, and if your defense has trouble against the run it will be a very long day.

I think I read the Bucs have the most pro bowl talent on roster in the division. Sounds reasonable. Mayfield is subpar, question marks on the oline, and there is no running game to speak of. Might be the worst offense in the NFC.

True Story: We have a one year old parakeet that throws an unholy fit every time a Panthers game comes on.

When the Cowboys play though, she sits contentedly on Lady Cowboy Fan and watches.

I wish I was making this up 🫥

Maybe the bird has a negative imprint of all that cat imagery? I mean it is a big ask to expect it to enjoy watching a deadly enemy.

Jalen Mayfield turned out to be a certified bust in ATL.  Pick 68 in 2021.  High for an interior lineman.  Remember him being fairly touted but he was not good.

Mayfield needs to get on to selling insurance, or cars, or managing a Walmart. Whatever it is he is meant to do, it is not playing offensive line in the NFL.

I've been trying really hard to see what others see, and I can't do that without making assumptions, taking a giant leap of faith and basically just throwing better judgement out the window, but I'm willing to play a game. I'm looking at our schedule and assuming that we're going to split with our division rivals (which is reasonable, though not guaranteed), how are we getting to the playoffs?

How does our all-star, know-it-all, can-do-no-wrong, perfection-personified of a coaching staff full of football gods improve upon a 7-10 season last year?

Don't get me wrong! I've told you many times over the years that historically we're likely not going to have an inkling of what we have until probably mid October. So, anything is possible! It really is. But on this day, pre season,  I can't see us winning more than 7 (maybe 8 if I'm hedging) games, and a lot is going to have to go silky smooth for us to do it.

Again, I'm assuming that we split with our division rivals. I think that some of you playoffs-or-bust people must be assuming that we're going to ride roughshod over the NFCS (which has really only happened once if you think about it), and that not only are our division rivals not improving, but all of our other rivals this year have stayed in a state of inertia, and that we're the only ones that have improved. Most people outside of Carolina---err, the Carolina Huddle, just don't believe that.

So, take some time and explain to me why you believe that we're going to do something that almost never happens in the division and/or look at the opponents below and tell me why you believe that we're going to beat them, and try to do it analytically without all the emotions and grand generalizations.

    Homer glasses off!

This is pretty close to what I am expecting. I think we have 6 wins. I don't have us beating the Packers, and I see us getting 3 wins out of the division, not a true split, with a sweep of the Bucs and getting swept by the Falcons.

Trying to be optimistic but I see 5 wins max for this season.

Whenever we have looked bad like this in the preseason, we have been bad. I'm thinking 6 wins. There is not really much to be excited about by this team at this point.

The first game usually looks bad, especially in a new system. And in this case, the Jets had already played a game.

I'll be interested to see Friday.

Yeah. I think expectations were getting a little lofty as well. Preseason can be a mirage. The 2004 preseason team went 4-0, and looked primed for return to the Superbowl. It didn't work out that way at all though. If we got the qb right, we will know soon, and that's the formula these days. Otherwise it's back to the lab I suppose.

  9. The reports out of training camp mostly painted the picture of what we are seeing today. It is a long season though and this is just preseason. Offense doesn't look like a finished product yet. Defense is competitive already, but they did allow some conversions that kept them on the field. I am starting to think we might split the games in the division, and beat up on the weak teams on the schedule. Not sure how many wins that gets us, but it's probably less than everyone is hoping.

  11. Every training camp we start to swoon over someone that we think will be a real difference maker, a legit find, a diamond in the rough, and he ends up doing nothing. It's just how it works. Some guys, like Fasani, end up actually playing a game, but that Tampa game of his might be the worst Panthers QB performance ever, and that's saying a lot.

I think it should be limited to those superstars that never got off the bench, or even made the 53 on game day.
