Him, Chris Harris, and Kurt Coleman all fall into the 'flash in the pan' category, guys that captured lighting in a bottle for whatever reason and over-achieved for a season before fading away into JAGness again. It really is crazy just how forgettable, if not outright bad, the safety play has been for 30 years aside from Mike Minter.

The irony is Fox played safety, and Rivera was a defensive guru.

2024 - Our "full reset" is actually more like a soft reset since Morgan's qualifications are questionable at best and a complete Fitts understudy at worst.  We still have Bryce and that still brings plenty of questions.  We added a complete unknown quantity at coach as well.  So if, or should I say...when the Panthers stink it up again in 2024 where is the blame going to land?  Bryce, Morgan, Canales?  Take your pick!  The beauty of Tepper's management style is you can never truly isolate the problem.

EDIT: Any combination of the above can be true at the same time.

Bryce will be on the chopping block for this season, assuming it goes terribly. They have rightfully attempted to help him succeed this season with investments in guard, wr and rb.

Tepper will attempt to be patient.

New coaches mean new qb, and Canales, if he is still here, will get the chance to call his shot.

A disaster of season probably drives Tepper to fire everyone again and start over.

They are a notch or 2 better than last year's awful team. They are better than 1 win, but I don't think the record is going to reflect any of that. You look at the schedule and there are not too many opportunities for a win. We are, however, the pushover on the schedule for 14 other teams. At some point in the season it will be more beneficial, and easier, to just lose instead.

  4. Hornets are a cursed franchise. Maybe it's a mascot sharing a name with a notorious hurricane, or the ghost of Bobby Phills, or George Shinn making a pact with the devil, or LJ's broken back or Zo not being worth the money, or Adam Morrison lingering stink, or some combination of all those and more. They are never going to be good. Even when they were adored in the good old days, they still weren't very good.

All that said, Atlanta is a pretty bad sports town. Take out all the SEC fanbases in the vicinity and it is very bleak indeed.

You don't say?  Regardless, I think we will right there for one of those two.  Maybe not #1 overall, but top 10 for sure...likely 5-9 range.

Someone could have a breakout year and be in the conversation, but as of now it seems limited.

Conversely, Young could have a breakout year, and the conversation changes too.

At this time, I do not share your confidence in being the 5-9 range.

I like that we put some resources towards TE. Ian Thomas is a waste of payroll.

I'm not as enthusiastic about spending a high pick on a RB again. Seems like we are the only team in the NFL that consistently does that. Biakabatuka, Foster, Shelton, Williams, Stewart, McCaffery and now Brooks. The value just isn't there. McCaffery had a 1000/1000 season with us, and we won 5 games that season.

No OL being drafted is a bit of mystery.

Maybe it will work out. My confidence in this franchise is low.

  7. We have been terrible drafting recently. We've never been great, but we would at least hit on a 1st rounder, and every so often we'd have a later round guy stick around a few seasons. We usually don't have much depth, and that's a good indicator of bad drafting.

Once camp starts we can all "Ohh and Aw" about guys catching balls. Maybe it will be different this time around.

Well there’s something to be said about spending a mid second on a soon to be starting RB vs spending a top ten pick on a QB that won’t see the field for 2+ years

Just pointing out that you are advocating the same thing that we mocked a rival for doing. I'm glad you already know how it will all work out. I apologize for upsetting you. Maybe you don't even need to watch anymore then.

Where are these Debbie Downers coming from?  Are they Cicadas?  You get the best RB in the draft vs. the 10th best CB. I wanted the LB.  However, a RB that can catch better that Chuba, block better than Chuba, and run better than Chuba--behind our new guards---I see it.

All good points. Very fair. I think there is some ho-hum about it being a rb in the 2nd round. The trend has been to find them later. We did need a rb though.

It is sad to sit here and watch these qbs go

every single one of them looks like a football player

They all have flaws though. They might be great. They might be so-so. They might be terrible.
