Without looking it up, I think Walls had retired by the time Jake was playing here. But I get what you're saying. Cam had Olsen, and briefly Shockey.
-
John Fox was more than ready to call it a career here. It was kind of 2 way street. Conversely, Rivera would still be here, until the very end I think, if he was not shown the door. The franchise needs a make-over. We've been essentially the same team since the start. It's becoming stale, and for no good reason. Everything..uniforms, logo, style of play. We do not have the accomplishments to justify a "timeless" look. Related, it took the Falcons about 50 years for back-to-back winning seasons. We seem determined to catch up with them. Halftime adjustments are a bit of myth. Teams have a game plan each week, and stick to it. There is not sufficient time to make major changes to that plan during the half with everything else that is going on.

Rhule says he regrets throwing Cam under the bus
UnluckyforSome replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
One of my favorite Rhule photos, with the classic "What am I doing here?" slouch. -
I don't think anyone should expect Jackson to come back to form. It will be different. Henderson is probably worth what was traded for him, a 3rd. I just can't buy it being a premium pick need.

I hate that it was only about a minute long.

I thought the story circulating around Payton from the start was he wasn't interested in Carolina since it did not meet his list of wants with the qb situation. Nothing has changed with our qb situation except Baker is gone.

I can understand wanting to defend your opinion and being true to your principles on this. It's very admirable. Not sure it's a hill worth dying on, so to speak. Sometimes it's better to just kind of let it go and let it be.
-
But what I am saying, instead, is that the reason why they lost was their defense, that had been exceptional for the season, was unable to get pressure on Burrow. It's especially galling when the Bengals oline was widely considered to be a pile of dog poo going in to the game.
-
There is a little bit of that in your posts though. I know you said that, but simply posting that and then pointing out over and over how if Buffalo had just committed to running they would've won, is very much like saying "No disrespect" before delivering a disrespectful insult. It's not about taking anything away from them, but rather give them the credit they earned today.
-
Some credit has to be given to the Bengals though. It's not just a lack of running game. All week, the chatter has been the sad state of the Bengals oline. They came to play today, subpar oline, or not. I get we as Panther fans don't get to experience that. In the few times we have been the subject of national conversation, we poo the bed. That Bengals team brought it today and Buffalo couldn't answer.

I do kind of like Kafka as a out-of-nowhere darkhorse. I mean he got something out of qb that was considered a bust, and a road playoff win as well. We sometimes manage to eek out something from our bust players too, but never as much as a road playoff win. I can't even remember our last road playoff win. Chicago?

I do have to wonder a little if Reich was hindered by Irsay a little bit. I suppose it's possible. He still finished with a winning record overall, even with the has-beens of Wentz and Ryan being brought in as starters.

That could be nicknamed the NFC South Revenge Coalition.

Could anything make you quit the team?
UnluckyforSome replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
It would be more along the lines of a series of mistakes, rather than 1 single error. There is a good bit of history invested here, but that can always be overcome and undone. I am hoping our current status is an opportunity to change our trajectory. Jaguars would be the next geographically closest team for me, and they aren't terribly appealing. -
Who you pulling for tonight? Bucs or Cowboys?

29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30. New Orleans Saints 31. Dallas Cowboys 32. Atlanta Falcons It is very very close, but still clear. -
Lamar could be gone……Article ahead.

He is not the first star player to miss a game, but I think the context of it is where the whispers are coming from. I mean the playoffs are supposed to be the stage where everything is put aside for the common goal. I don't care either way since it doesn't affect me, but the optics of him missing the game entirely, not even being there, are a little off. Regarding Vick, and his 2 cents..Vick killed dogs. For fun and sport. That's all that needs to be said. -

I don't think the semantics of did he quit or not on the team is worth the energy to argue. None of us know the answer, and then it's just attacking the other person for their opinion. I think he's a liability at the position, and when the cost is factored in, it's just not an acceptable risk. What have the Ravens won with him, and why? If he needs to be surrounded with talent, then is he able to make the team better? Do we have the talent across the board to support him, if that's where the Ravens have fallen short? I'm not sure we are any better. On the issue of contracts and guarantees, the players have bargained for the current system, and can work to change it at the table. I can't say it is right or wrong regarding owners/players/contracts. Maybe that would be a good card to play when the owners decide to go to 18 game seasons. -

Where is the benefit in having a face of the franchise type of player, who tells fans to eat a dick, frequently misses time due to injury, and has been a god-awful turnover machine in the playoffs? No way to leave out the dollar cost of bringing this face of the franchise on to the team as well. Perhaps I am missing something? -
It's really something when the players, even some former guys, are stumping for Wilks to get the job. I am certain that same enthusiasm and energy will be there to celebrate and explain the 8-9, 10-7, 7-10 and 6-11 records that will follow as usual too.
-
It's not a touchy subject really. I am probably misremembering some details about it, but I think there was a poo storm brewing about McCown being the "secret" intended choice and he was coaching high school level. The Rooney rule has great intentions. The execution of it is a farce and pure mockery. Of course the Colts do essentially the same thing but there are different rules/expectations about interim coaches.
-
I thought the only reason he got hired was due to the rumbling backlash that was growing when word got out that McCown was going to be the new guy.

STEVE WILKS - FINAL POLL THREAD
UnluckyforSome replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was an average coach. Not a bad job at the interim spot, as it always requires to work with what you've got. We could definitely do worse. Wilks did very Panther things though, and I really really think we need new approaches, ideas, culture, and characteristics as a franchise. I'm not so sure Wilks is able to do those things. Maybe he gets the job and brings Rivera too since he might be available again. Charlotte can be home to pro sports do-over coaches then. -
Disappointing player of the year award?
UnluckyforSome replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I do not understand the tendency for mind-numbing, game-changing, soul-crushing penalties/negative plays. Everyone makes mistakes. He makes disasters.
