There is some reasoning that Vrabel would want Smith to return as his oc. Even if that wouldn't be happening in Atlanta, the connection might be awkward. Numbers don't tell the whole story. They also had position changes and new faces on OL, a QB we jettisoned mid-season, no running game to speak of, a head coach on the hot seat, and yet they won the division for 3rd straight time, and got a playoff victory. Most folks had them picked to finish last in the NFC South.

Yeah. All very true. There are reasons beyond the win-loss record why they hired a strict authoritarian coach to follow. There are reasons why he hasn't gotten another head coach job, other than a brief interim stint. He has probably had lots of personal growth though.

Absolutely. It might be more of an organizational thing though, since they've had 3 coaches in the last 50 odd years. We can't even find 1 worth having around for more than a dozen games now.

To your point, how long now have the Ravens had that identity? 2+ decades? It sure would be nice to be able to develop and maintain a culture and an enduring identity for more than a season or 2 at a time.
