  1. From the article.. Over a 17-game season, Howell’s current total would project to 97 sacks. The NFL record for most times sacked in a season is 76, set by David Carr with the expansion Texans in 2002. Big numbers. I haven't watched any of their games however. Is he holding on to the ball? Frozen with indecision? Oline worse than ours? Ron shenanigans? It's interesting in the context of I think Rivera is gone after this year, and a new coach will want their own guy under center. There's a good amount of Panthers fans that would like to bring Howell home, as they feel it was a mistake to not draft him anyway. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/sam-howell-has-40-sacks-through-seven-games-on-pace-to-shatter-nfl-record
  2. Some of those scenarios could be possible, and be a plus. Unless I missed it, what is your plan for pass rush? It sounds like you trade away what we do have, and use the higher picks towards offensive skill.
  3. This team needs to stop throwing good money after bad. Midseason trade market is going to be filled with other teams' problems and unwanteds. There are no fanciful deals where a team is looking to unload a player that is up and coming for a 4th round pick! It's a buyer beware market, and here we come strolling into town like hayseed hicks with a little money burning a hole in our pocket.
  4. I think they are the oldest team in the league now. The defense still has some fight in them. The oline used to be much better but has fallen off with some age and departures. It's not all Carr, but he's probably better than Hill, or taking a wild ride on Famous Jameis and his Wheel of Misfortune.
  5. Ha! Well I knew they had benched former 1st rounder Penning at LT, he didn't even look like he belonged on the field, but I didn't know they had replaced him with someone as effective as a flaming bag of dog poo.
  6. Their offense is looking very Pantherish.
  7. Nah, I think it just means exactly how it reads. I very much doubt any team is going to trade anything for him.
  8. Atlanta gave up a 5th for Okudah, another high 1st round corner with a injury history in his 3 seasons. That might be more realistic.
  9. I am not advocating playing through a injury when it is not safe. I think more to the point, that it is a sign of waving the white flag on a season is when the IR list starts to grow. It makes the medicine go down a little easier at the end of the year when the team points to all the injuries suffered and an IR list far into the double figures.
  10. It happens a bunch when teams are out of the running. Players suddenly have season-ending injuries. I'm sure it is just coincidence though, and bad luck.
  11. The Niners-Browns game has been entertaining. I did not watch the Panthers today. Purdy looked very much like a product of the Shanny QB System, but maybe some of that could be attributed to the injuries that happened today. Was not aware that Browns have the top defense in the league.
  12. There is not much defense in college football anymore, but UNC doesn't even try to pretend most of the time.
  13. I've heard a whole bunch about what he is. I've not seen a whole bunch of that on the field. I had the Panthers with 6 wins this year, so I don't think my expectations were overblown. The thing is, there is pressure that is built-in for the top pick in the draft, and that's part of the reason why rookie qbs struggle. He hasn't shown anything. Nothing. Nada. Nunca. None. That would be..okay..if he were some 5th round project pick. There's no more need to continue to hear about what Young is. No need for fluff pieces, damage control, from the team about what other coaches see in him. Coaches aren't going to talk badly about any player on any team publicly. He needs to start showing why he was the #1 pick.
  14. 1 catch for -1 yards. Start getting that package together for the trade.
  15. Good. 1 throw, 1 game on the line. I'd pick fiery, angry old man Smith over Jeudy.
  16. I'm not convinced that even signing Seth wouldn't be an improvement.
  17. Point Guard Steph Curry Expert Distributor Super Computer Mega Processing Magician Maestro
  18. I wouldn't be totally shocked if he just called it a career. Not sure he would be skillful enough to be VP of player development or the like, and don't think he's personable enough to be VP of community engagement or such. I'm sure they will offer to transition him in to some empty office though, because how do you realistically fire him?
  19. If it's 0-17 this season, then next year we should just really strive to surpass the Bucs 0-26 mark. It would only be 10 more games to beat it, and we could still finish 7-10, which, unfortunately, now passes for a good season here.
  20. He is a complete waste of payroll. Some have claimed he's good blocker. Even if that's true, more is expected from a TE in today's NFL, and no matter how good a blocker he might be, there's a very, very good chance that his production could be replaced and eclipsed at a savings.
  21. It's not the 1st time that a team has picked a bust after spending a bunch of assets to do it. There will be better days, and we will all be there for those. That said, it's not good now, and won't be for a while. I am a non-practicing Catholic, and the Panthers are in the same boat, and have been really for the last few years. I still enjoy watching and following the sport, I just separate my Panthers allegiance out of all that, and can then still get enjoyment out of the NFL, without the experience being ruined by the idiocy that is present in the Panthers.
  22. The thing is, Wilks punted from midfield, when there was no tomorrow, in a must-win game, a playoff elimination game. I'm sure he thought to himself, we have a 14 point lead, and my defense is going to be good enough to stop them the rest of the game. Except it wasn't, and by the way, here's Brady and Evans, again and again and again. We have seen that song and dance so many times as fans, and just because it's familiar, doesn't make it right.
  23. I think you are just feeling the cumulative effect. They've been bad the entire time. When they didn't look like a real NFL team in preseason, most people scoffed and said "blah blah blah we're talking about practice?" and then when they looked bad against Atlanta it was "1st game jitters, and Atlanta is supposed to be pretty good, and it was on the road too." They've been the same crummy, awful team from the beginning.
  24. There's not much of value on this roster. When you look around, most of it has been traded away already. The worst part about all that is what was bought with it.
