  1. I think there is a bit of a dead feeling because some of the players are essentially mercenaries these days. You can't really fault them for it though, as these schools raked in money hand over fist because of the success of the teams. On top of that, SMU and the Pony Express was not the only example of players being paid to play, they were just the ones that got caught, so at least it is out in the open now.
  2. "There is no justification for a top overall pick to not be better than half of the other players at their position." is a fundamentally different statement than pointing out there is nuance in not simply comparing top overall pick in the draft to a previous year's top overall pick in the draft. It is not the pivot you might be seeing it as. I don't know what else to tell you on this, and I realize you are maybe getting caught up on the basic meaning of the word. I don't think there is much more to say about it really.
  3. Well, you are comparing apples to oranges with that, and that is fine. I know you and I have differing perspectives on the team, and differences are good to have. My apologies for causing you to become a bit dizzy.
  4. I really think eventually it will be more of Premier League setup, and in many ways it is already moving to that with the possible playoff expansion and the framework that has been bantered around. Honestly, do conferences even matter anymore? Does the NCAA even matter anymore. There have been fundamental changes now that really seem to make both of those things a bit redundant and needless now.
  5. Of course that is not true. That would be the case in a vacuum, as what I think you are saying is not taking position differences into account, but rather making a year over year comparison of top pick to top pick. There is no justification for a top overall pick to not be better than half of the other players at their position. So, there is a bit of nuance that shouldn't just be ignored, and any lowering of expectations of a top overall pick entering their 3rd year should not be entertained.
  6. At first, I thought it was yet another Carr from the Carr qb family. He isn't, he is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, and as any Wolverine fan can attest, you can't spell Lloyd without 2 Ls.
  7. The weekend slate of games from what I have seen have all been mostly compelling. I am very curious to see what UNC looks like tomorrow night.
  8. Of course. I do think there will be a real reluctance from many to face the facts on him this season.
  9. #1 overall picks have to be better than top half at their position.
  10. He can run around and make things happen. A little like Fields, in that sometimes it's not great things that happen. Some team will give him a shot, but it won't be us.
  11. I think Clemson just doubled their offensive production on that 1 play.
  12. If this holds up, Monday's Finebaum show will be an incredible crybaby fest.
  13. SEC crew today from what they said at kickoff.
  14. 7 minutes to go to a opening game shutout. There will be plenty of excuses though. Game on the road, tough place to play, defending champs, 1st start, etc etc. Texas looked anemic, not like the #1 team in the country.
  15. Texas making the SEC look like a fraud. Should've stayed in the Big 12.
  16. Maybe he's saving up some Manning magic for a dramatic, last minute, comeback win. Time is running out though.
  17. Arch Manning with 38 yards passing to start the 4th. Terrible.
  18. Texas defense looking pretty good so far. Their offense, not so much.
  19. I don't particularly care for either Texas or OSU, but I think it will be a good game.
  20. If you are a fan of seeing folks in pain. https://youtu.be/Rwl-Q_V46ow?si=h-Z1Dp2eRm9BnQ9O
  21. Peppers is probably still good for 6 sacks at this point. Might be enough for the team lead in sacks this year.
