  1. And it's not like it was unpredictable. Same situation as Teddy, Whitehead, and maybe even Sam - guys with years and years of consistent film don't tend to magically become something they've never been. Some years I guess it works like in 2013, but even then guys like Mitchell, Mikell, and Florence had put some quality play on film. Hopefully one or more of these high risk/reward additions still works out. I don't mean to sound like a negative Nancy here. It's just a scenario Carolina fans, and fans across the NFL really, have seen play out many times. Meanwhile, Riley Reiff is seemingly doing OK over there in Cincy... would've been great to nab him.
  2. What's the relevance of referencing Otah here? Otah was a beast in 2008 and 2009 before breaking down and potentially having motivation issues. Besides, the team needs improvement on the interior now. If Brown has shown potential then they need to be making a decision based on current information and not what 'could' happen later. Perhaps that's what's happening here but it's tough to imagine him being any worse than what we saw Sunday and we know that Miller has started multiple games with poor performance.
  3. This is not news in any way, shape, or form (and she may very well be flat out wrong if she presented it as OP titled it). I recall the timing being discussed openly during a press conference and sources out there for months have the Panthers offering for Darnold as early as February... Fields' first pro day was in March. Hell, the trade was discussed at the pro day itself. From the link below: "The Panthers were first in touch about Darnold in mid-February, after an offer of the eighth overall pick, a fifth-rounder and Teddy Bridgewater for Stafford fell short of what the Lions wound up getting from the Rams for their quarterback. And thereafter, because of strong relationships Douglas had with the Carolina brass, trust and communication between the teams kept the light for a Darnold trade on. ... Also, as luck would have it, the Jets and Panthers were actually together at Wilson’s pro day in Provo as that deal was being finalized. So Douglas talked with Rhule and Fitterer in Utah about Darnold. And those talks, with the Jets having just lost a suitor and the Panthers now facing dwindling odds of landing a quarterback they valued at eight, sparked new momentum. ... Douglas and Fitterer talked again on the night of March 29, after both arrived in Columbus for Fields’s Pro Day, and then Douglas talked with Fitterer, Rhule and Stewart again inside the field house at Ohio State after Fields got done throwing. All of which timed up nicely. Just as the final box was being checked, and Douglas and LaFleur were seeing the last quarterback throw, a Darnold trade was coming to life." https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/04/08/inside-story-of-why-jets-traded-darnold-new-qb-search
  4. And Williams, Turner, Elder, Klein, Mayo, and Armah as well, though a few of those are ST-grade. Hell, even Barner played through last year and got a couple of rings.
  5. I ran into Darryl Green in KC today. Good guy.
  6. I love how a 2023 6th round pick is classified as 'aggressive'. One could interpret that as the front office truly understanding the market.
  7. The objective reality of terrible officiating can be discussed without it automatically being assumed that that is the only reason Carolina lost. I think it's quite fair to say, however, that some of the missed/incorrect calls did have notable impact on the game, that said impacts more than once benefitted Dallas in a manned that did not obstruct their path to victory, and that balance would have made Carolina's potential path to victory less obstructed.
  8. Oh they committed plenty. They just weren't called for any.
  9. I feel like YGM would have been an asset today and that him being out may have hampered their ability to move to a different look. Hell, one of those short yardage/goal line situations it look like there were only 3 down lineman for Carolina. It was just a strange approach overall.
  10. I think he's claiming Rhule called him about being signed in Carolina after he became HC and then just ceased contact because of a blackballing conspiracy.
  11. Grievance about what? And isn't this the clown that was on video hitting someone with his belt? Edit: looks like he filed a grievance about pay discrimination and is accusing the league of blackballing him. I mean, who doesn't want to sign a 30+ player who tore both Achilles and hasn't played since 2016 and productive since 2014?
  12. And Peyton ultimately proved it just like Lamar still needs to, so that's sort of a non sequitor. I personally haven't been all that impressed with him in the bigger games I've seen (Chiefs game aside) and the results haven't been favorable thus far. Still very early in his career though, so lots of time to change that perspective.
  13. A la Chris Gamble. Not saying Henderson's at that level for sure, but Gamble was the same way and is arguably the best corner Carolina's had (especially when longevity is factored in), definitely top 3.
  14. Sorry for the poo, but there just is no other choice in this situation.
  15. So Louisville has a thing for putting out QBs who cave under pressure, eh? In all seriousness Lamar showed a lot during that Chiefs game; I fully expected another fold. Needs to do it a bit more to shake the stigma, but promising.
  16. Week 4? Nah. A win is big but a loss is not the end of the world by any means, particularly coming off of the injuries in Houston. This team seems to have some resiliency and would bounce back, maybe even better.
  17. Says a lot about the type of team they want to be and where they believe things stand as of today. I don't know anything about Henderson so can't comment about that but on paper it does seem like good value. Also, interesting that another Panthers TE castoff joins Manhertz down in Jacksonville.
