For God's sake, please be nonsense! Matt Rhule's QB comment earlier in the year: “Just in general, I think you want someone who’s elitely intelligent. I think you want someone who’s a tremendous leader,” Rhule said, via Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer. “I think you want someone who’s accurate. I think you want someone who has arm talent to make all the throws. And I think you want someone who has a history of making plays in crucial situations, that’s just very urgent.” Matt Rhule quote related to Jones: I’ve been impressed with his character, his moxie, his swag. I mean, he’s got it all. You can see why his teammates follow him. He’s got a great way with other people. He’s been a really productive quarterback, and he’s shown a lot of things he can do this week. He’s really smart. He’s accurate. He can move his feet and slide in the pocket. For me, getting to know him, I can see why everyone raves about him and why he’s had the success he had.” I think it notable that the Jones related quote does not mention Jones' arm talent. The reason is that the arm talent does not justify the #8 pick. We already have a QB with limited arm talent.

TBH, I think coaches at events like the Senior Bowl are only likely to give glowing reviews of players. I sometimes find it more interesting to see what is not said. I believe I noticed that Rhule did not speak of Jones arm talent when giving him a glowing review.

I will be shocked if he is drafted in the first round. ANALYST'S REPORTS Reid Click here to read Mond's full Premium NFL draft profile. From a statistical standpoint, Kellen Mond is one of the most prolific players to not only play in College Station, but also the SEC. He's a slim, but adequately built quarterback prospect who possesses lots of velocity with throws when able to step into them. With a high-elbow but snappy type of release, he has the torque and enthusiasm behind passes that enables him to be very efficient in the short to intermediate areas. Mond always displays high levels of poise as he often shows that he’s never in a hurry. From his mechanics to how he deals with pressure surrounding him, he remains under control and focused on the task at hand. He's one of the most battled-tested throwers in the country as he takes an excruciating amount of hits throughout games but continues to battle and make throws. The often occurrence of shots to his body has helped him better deal with pressure from all directions inside the pocket. He's mainly a half-field read thrower that can get the ball out quickly and efficiently when on schedule. While barely scratching the level of an above-average athlete, he has enough athleticism to get himself out of trouble and gain hidden yardage when breaking outside of the pocket as well. He's strictly a shotgun/pistol quarterback who’s had all of his experience there. Playing faster is sometimes needed, but he remains at the same pace. Decaying pockets can be challenging for him to escape and he waits too long to make that decision instead of correctly timing when, where, and how to exit the pocket in order to explore and create off-script opportunities. He shows great stages of poise, but will have plays where he makes questionable throws down the field in hopes of being bailed out by aggressive perimeter options. Ideal Role: Developmental QB that could lead to being a high-end backup option.

Everybody loves to suggest trading down and amassing draft picks. I recognize the value of additional picks given the margin of error that exists with most drafted players. However, it does not make sense when you are drafting this high. This especially true if you are seeking a QB. If anything, you trade up if you can find a trading partner and there will be a premium price to do so. It is supply and demand manifest. The value of a franchise QB or a player that you believe has the skills etc. to be a franchise QB can hardly be overstated. Without one, you will always be on the outside looking in. If my reading is correct, the natives (PSL owners) are getting restless and it is getting harder and harder to justify the PSL related expenses. I think Tepper recognizes this. Hope is in short supply in "Panthers Land". With a potential franchise QB comes hope and hope drives revenue.

All 32 starting QBs predicted (Matt Williamson)

AWFUL! -
No. He is a horrible value given his contract. The Rams would probably have “pay” a team to take on that contract and I doubt that there would be any takers. That contract given to him earlier than necessary is an albatross around the Rams’ neck and will likely remain so.

If it’s not a QB who do you want in the draft
FakePlasticTrees replied to MGH1989's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am smart enough to recognize the difference between tanking and intentionally trying to lose a game during the game. I sick and tired of these played out straw man arguments. While the effect may be similar, the mode is not. The former is COMMON and the latter is nearly if not precedented. I am glad Pederson lost his job. I also realize the importance of all positions. However, make no mistake - all positions are NOT equal. OL can be had in FA and drafted in later rounds or even signed as undrafted FA. Get a QB and if necessary let him sit for year and develop the talent around him. Without a franchise QB, you are simply spinning your wheels toward another mediocre season or one in each everything falls into place and you make an early exit in the playoffs. That is simply not enough for me. BTW, I have heard the same from others. It takes some justification to renew PSLs and that justification is fading into oblivion. -

The Panthers find a potential franchise QB in this draft (in the first round) or before or they have lost me. I am sick of this constant push towards mediocrity. In today's NFL hope comes from having a franchise QB. After all the statements made by those in charge, not finding a potential franchise QB is not an option!!! That STUPID WFT win continues to haunt this team. -
Does anyone disagree with this statement?
FakePlasticTrees replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Panthers MUST find their franchise caliber QB this offseason. Because of the way things are playing out, the Panthers will probably need to move up from the #8 pick if that franchise QB is to be found in the draft (that WFT win is the reverse gift that keeps on taking). I foresee other teams also trying to move up because the need at the QB position is so great. Competition means the cost of moving up is likely to be higher than normal. I do not believe a franchise QB is going to be able to be found outside the top 6-10 picks. I do not view Jones or Trask as franchise QBs. The other option appears to be trading for Watson or Stafford. I still believe that Watson will end up staying in Houston. It is clear that Stafford WILL be traded. It is also clear to me that if traded, Stafford will want a new contract. The cost to attain Watson is likely to be unprecedented. The other option, which is virtually guaranteed to lock the Panthers into the hell of mediocrity is going after players like Trubisky. I still think trading up is the most likely scenario followed closely by standing pat because it takes at least two teams to accommodate a trade. I fear standing pat turns into a nightmare forcing the Panthers to reach for a QB with little chance of becoming a "franchise" QB or the Panthers setting the team back for years by NOT finding s franchise QB this year. Signing Stafford is next most likely. I still think signing Watson is a huge longshot. -
Christian McCaffrey. However, I doubt Houston would want to take on his contract. Furthermore, I suspect the salary cap implications would be a large factor.

Our old buddy Josh McCown has a job opportunity...
FakePlasticTrees replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Josh McCown has coached for Myers Park, FWIW. He may still be coaching there. His son goes there. -
The most likely QB scenario involves the Panthers drafting a QB in Round 1 after trading up. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1 unless it is somehow Trevor Lawrence) The second most likely scenario involves the Panthers standing pat and drafting a QB at pick 8. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1) The third most likely scenario is that the Panthers do not draft a QB early. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1) The fourth most likely scenario involves the Panthers trading for a QB. (Bridgewater is not QB 1) ( He starts as the back-up or ideally is traded himself) The fifth most likely scenario involves the Panthers signing a FA QB. (Hard to tell who the starter would be) Thus, there is a high probability that Bridgewater begins next season as QB1.
