Because Bryce cannot play QB at the professional level. With Bryce behind center we have been outscored 73-13 in two games. He has converted TWO thirds downs in 2 games. He has thrown 3 INTERCEPTIONS and 0 TDs. He can’t see over the line of scrimmage and has to jump in the air or stand on his toes get his passes off. He misses open WRs when they’re running free, even when he’s not pressured, because he’s an inaccurate passer. He gives the Panthers no chance to win when he is behind center. I can’t think of one thing Bryce Young does better than Andy Dalton (or any other QB in the NFL for that matter).

If I were Ewers an 0-17 Carolina team attempted to draft me 1st overall after an obvious tank job I’d pull and Elway or Manning move and tell them that under no circumstances will I be reporting to the team. Any team that would do that their fans isn’t a team worth playing for.
-
I may get flamed for this, but I think Reich would still be here if Carolina had drafted Will Levis. He hasn’t proven anything yet, but 10x better than Bryce Young…and we wouldn’t have had to give up any draft picks.

The first pick in the draft WORTHLESS if the front office picks the wrong guy. We currently have first overall pick on our roster and look where that got us. This team hasn’t produced a team for Charlotte fans to get excited about since 2017. This franchise is an embarrassment, and starting a tank after the 2nd loss of the season would be even more embarrassing. We need to try and win some games…THIS SEASON!

It's a painful enough to watch the Panthers offense on TV from the comfort my home. I can't imagine having to watch them live. Mr. Tepper would have to PAY ME an awful lot of money to sit thru a game at Bank of America Stadium. I wouldn't pay dime to watch the current team. I'd only go to a home game now if I were pulling for the other team. As bad as the Panthers are, when they show up on an opponent's schedule those players (and their fans) have to feel pretty confident about an addition to the WIN COLUMN.

The 2023-2024 (aka Bryce Young) Panther are the worst offensive team I've seen in the past 10 years. They are really a hard team to watch. No paying fan should have to watch this sorry display of football for back to back seasons. The one game Dalton played wasn't great, but it was much more exciting than all of Young's performances, with the possible exception of the GB game. I don't see how the offense or defense can get mentally ready to play week in and week out knowing the have no chance to win because the offense is going to struggle to get to 14 points per game.

What did Bryce do during the offseason...? He appears to have become an even worse QB than he was the previous season.

Derrick Brown potential season ending knee injury
SCO96 replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
DB is a great run defender and pushes the pocket a little, but he's NEVER been the pass rusher I thought he would have been after being the 6th pick taken in the draft. He had 8 sacks in his first 4 seasons. I don't think our season sack total is going to be drastically affected with him out of the lineup. -
S Fowler ‘not sure Young will ever work out’

I know exactly what you mean. He is painful to watch. I don't think my 12 year old son would look anymore uncomfortable than Bryce does when he drops back to pass and attempts to "read the field". -
You cannot start Bryce Young again. He is not an NFL player.

We need a QB who can get the ball into the hands of our "playmakers" -

David Temper would have a tough time PAYING ME enough money to watch the 2024 Panthers in person. It’s painful enough watching them at home for free. -
I was planning to watch the entire game. Our offense was so boring that I fell asleep when the score was 37-10. When I woke up it was 47-10 with under 6 minutes to go. I think my nap was more exiting than the game.

I tend to enjoy your posts Jon so I see your point of view. But, our defense comes into each game with a severe disadvantage… B. Young behind center. The Saints had 13:00 advantage in time of possession. David Carr didn’t throw a pick on his first pass of the season. The Saints didn’t fumble while appearing to convert a crucial down early in the game. I think the defense was demoralized by the end of the 1st quarter. When they saw that 17-0, everyone in that stadium and at home watching that game knew Carolina had no chance of coming back. I agree that defense is worse, but I want to see how they play in a game where there’s a possibility that the offense might just outscore the other team. -

I agree that the defense looked awful today. However, it has to be hard going out there and giving your all knowing you have no chance of winning the game because your QB is possibly the worst in the NFL. I think defensive play would improve immediately if the offense could spot them some points and keep them off the field for more than 3-6 plays at a time. -

You can't trot him out there for the next 16 weeks! It’s not fair to the fans or the players and coaches who are playing for their livelihood. The idea of starting him for the rest of the season to “get the #1 draft” is ridiculous. That’s the ultimate example of a loser mentality. No team should start tanking the 2nd week of the NFL season. Getting the #1 pick in the draft guarantees you NOTHING…especially if the front office keeps drafting the wrong players. Last I checked we had a #1 pick behind center and we all see what that got us. You play to win the game. Fan’s shouldn’t be forced to pay to watch an NFL offense play this poorly in an offense-driven league. If Dalton isn’t starting by the end of the month the people in Charlotte should start boycotting the games. If leads to local blackouts, SO WHAT?! The Panthers aren’t worth watching anyone with BY behind center. -
You guys could be in for more disappointment if you think getting another #1 pick is going to solve everything. We had the #1 pick in 2023 and look how that turned out. If the front keeps drafting the wrong player(s), then the end result will be the same.

It's funny that you mentioned Spencer Rattler. He was the 150th overall pick in the 2024 draft and wasn't taken until the 5th round. After we picked Legette at the end of the 1st, I was of the opinion that Carolina should have strongly considered taking him once he dropped out of round 3. Rattler & Legette had a great connection at USC. Rattler also has a better arm than Bryce Young. If the team struggles out of the gate in 2024 (a definte possibility after watching how poorly Bryce performed last season), I think having Rattler on the roster would at least give the Panthers the possibility of attacking downfield and keeping the defenses honest.

There a couple of more things that MUST IMPROVE if the team wants to make significant strides forward in 2024. The TD to interception ratio has to change this season. Bryce has 1 TD's and 10 INT's1. That's practically a 1:1 ratio. Since 2020, the league average is 2:1. BY would need to increase the # of TD passes by 9 for the 2023 INT level to be acceptable in today's NFL. A good QB in modern NFL is going to average 250 yds. per game passing the football. Bryce averaged 179.8. He needs to pass increase his yards per game averaged by 70 yards per game if he is going to be a competent QB in 2024. If he doesn't reach these goals by year 3 Carolina needs to decline the 5th year option and move on.
-
If Bryce could throw 20-22 TDs this season, keep the INTs around 10-11, and exceed the 3,000 yard mark I'd consider that a massive improvement. If BY could have achieved that in 2023, Carolina probably would have won 6-7 games. With the new additions on the roster and coaching staff I'd be surprised if we don't triple our win total in 2024.
-
I don't think I would have done what Atlanta did, but this was a very logical explanation for why they did it. You bring up a good point about Bryce. I think the team would be leery about moving on from Bryce if he struggles early. Doing so would indicate they made a bad decision and pretty much shatter his confidence. And even if we did bench, Dalton is pretty much a C level backup at this point in his career. I actually would have considered taking Spencer Rattler in round 4 or 5. It would have brought in some legit competition and another live arm. We all know that Rattler could have completed a lot of the throws Bryce missed last year, he's already has an established connection with XL, and the offense wouldn't have been restricted to 10 yard passes and bubble screens.

I see your point. However, what if Penix doesn’t have a stellar season in his first year as starter? If the Falcon miss the playoffs and his play is only competent at best I think the leverage swings the other way.
