  1. I wasn't overly upset when Ron was let go, but in his defense, Cam was hurt the final two years he was at Carolina so he had to play most of those seasons with back-up QB's. Tepper didn't even let him finish the season. Ron was dismissed with 4 games left to go. And what do we have to show for it? The new hire is the least popular HC we've ever had.
  2. You did. I posted this last week. Its an article 2017 season (2018 playoff game) https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/steelers-owners-reportedly-lobbying-art-rooney-to-fire-mike-tomlin-after-playoff-debacle/ Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday that he's hearing "some of the team's limited partners intend to lobby owner Art Rooney to fire of Tomlin and to hire a new coach." To be clear: These members of ownership, who bought into the team about a decade ago, do not have the authority to hire or fire anyone or to make any sort of management decisions. They are minority owners without a controlling interest; Florio lists "Rob Citrone, Paul Evanson, Larry Paul, Stephen Paul, Bruce Rauner, Paul Sams, John Stallworth, Benjamin Statler, Scott Swank, David Tepper, Thomas Tull, Peter Varischetti, and Mike Wilkins" as names involved.

    DJ Moore

I was so happy when we passed on him. He seems like a good kid and I would like to see him improve his game, but I wasn't overly impressed with him coming out. He also has one more almost insurmountable thing going against him...he's from Ohio State...and all of their QB's tend to suck in the NFL.
  4. No doubt in my mind that we would have lost today if he didn't play in the game.
  5. We'd be in really good shape if we had not gone for two points on our last TD.
  6. Last season I saw/read a story that said DB's around the league could tell what we were doing in the passing game. That could be why we had so much difficulty in the 2nd half, especially in the 3rd quarter. Teams figured out what was coming and the DC's would call plays to neutralize the offense.
  7. Our "defense first" philosophy has never won a championship. Our defensive coaches can't even post back to back winning seasons. Look at some of the defensive coaches that have won SB's Tom Landry (Staubach), Chuck Knoll (Bradshaw), Bill Belichik (Brady), Mike Tomlin (Big Ben), Tony Dungy (Manning), Jimmy Johnson (Aikman), They all had quarterback who could light up a score board. They wouldn't have won anything with the QB's and/or offensive schemes we've put on the field the past seasons. Defense does win you championships as long as you have an offense that can outscore the other team. In today's NFL I'd rather have a great offense and middle of the road defense than vice versa.
  8. As some one said earlier, we just need to hit the right HC/GM combo. It was a bad idea to keep Hurney after Rivera was let go. Tepper should have hired a GM and worked with him to get a coach to properly launch the next era of Panther football. Tepper got rid of the arguably the best coach we ever had (Ron Rivera); and kept a previously fired GM who promptly hired the arguably the worst coach we've ever had (Matt Rule). He then got rid of Hurney and let the Rhule influence the hiring of the current GM. And, as the podcast stated "they're not on the same page." I wouldn't be in a rush to trade any of our good pieces on offense (CMAC or DJ). If we hit on a young (and inexpensive) QB he's going to need guys like them to help him out on the field. What we need is a offensive minded coach who understands how to effectively use the pieces he has, draft wisely, and knows how to game plan and make adjustments on Sundays.
  9. The NFL has significantly changed since I was kid. The current game is heavily tilted in favor of the offense. I agree with you on the need to try something different and break the defensive HC cycle. The Panthers have been a NFL franchise for over 25 years and still haven't posted back to back winning seasons. I think we would break that trend if we had a coach who specialized in outscoring opponents instead of relying on a strong running game and stingy defense to win week in and week out.
  10. Check out this article I remember reading during the 2017 season. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/steelers-owners-reportedly-lobbying-art-rooney-to-fire-mike-tomlin-after-playoff-debacle/ Sunday afternoon was not the highest point of Mike Tomlin's coaching career. Losing 45-42 to the Jaguars in an AFC divisional round game is bad enough just on the surface, but digging deeper it's not hard to find multiple instances of the Steelers being outcoached by the Jags and unprepared for certain scenarios. And now some Steelers minority owners are reportedly getting in Art Rooney's ear about firing Tomlin over the game. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday that he's hearing "some of the team's limited partners intend to lobby owner Art Rooney to fire of Tomlin and to hire a new coach." Florio lists "Rob Citrone, Paul Evanson, Larry Paul, Stephen Paul, Bruce Rauner, Paul Sams, John Stallworth, Benjamin Statler, Scott Swank, David Tepper, Thomas Tull, Peter Varischetti, and Mike Wilkins" as names involved. ------ Tomlin isn't a perfect coach. 1) He does have some head-scratching losses on his resume (His Steeler teams seems to play down to the level of their competition at times). 2) He seems to have difficulties at times with clock management in crucial moments. But he's has taken the Steelers to 2 Superbowls (1-1 record), several playoff appearances, and has never had a losing record since replacing Bill Cowher. Tepper and fellow minority owners wanted to fire Tomlin after a playoff loss! As a full owner he seems hesitant to get rid of Rule who can't even get to a .500 record (10-25), or past 5 wins a season for that matter. The team has lost 9 games in a row and shows no signs of improving or competing for a playoff spot in the near future.
  11. I see nothing wrong if such a scenario takes place in order for both gentlemen to save face. The Panther community needs to see a new coach on the sidelines in 2023. As long as that happens it doesn't matter how Mr. Rhule leaves the team.
  12. There's aquote by former NFL head coach Bill Parcells that says, "You are what your record says you are. Under Rhule for the past two seasons we have been a 5 win team, which is what we were in Rivera's last year with the team. So no, we haven't shown ANY IMPROVEMENT where it matters...on the won/lost record
  13. 10-25 record over your last 35 games. You need to change a lot of things buddy
  14. You know, I was thinking the same thing. We’ve got some nice pieces on both sides of the ball. We’ve still got some holes, but I have no doubt that there are coaches in the NFL who could get this team above .500…and probably to a wildcard spot.
  15. Good post. I could see him causing all sorts of problems as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme coordinated by a Bill Belichik or a Wade Phillips type running the defense. To make that work though you've got to have a massive presence at the NT to cover both A gaps and DE's capable of playing the B and C gaps. We'd need bigger lineman in the middle and on the EDGE. I have wondered if D. Brown would be more affective as a DE in a 3-4 if he had Burns coming of the edge. He'd see less double teams on passing plays. We'd also need bigger ILB's. We'd need to make a firm commitment and it would take at least 2 seasons to acquire all the pieces, assuming you drafted the right players and acquired the right FA's. I don't think the saying "the answer is on the roster" applies to us right now.
  16. Here's the problems with your proposal, I wouldn't trust the current regime to draft anyone replace him. I don't think the coaching staff is good at evaluating d-lineman. Right now he is our best lineman. Burns still isn't 25. I'd like to see him stay and become a standout in the league. I just don't think he's worth $20 mil a season. In the NFL, the next man up always seems to dictate the market cost even if he isn't as good as the guy that preceded him.
  17. I think Burns is good...not great. Top tier passing rushing ends are getting around $20 mil a season. He's not worth that. He's still young and has room to improve, but if ends the season with less than 10 sacks , and the his run defense doesn't improve , then you have to begin planning to let him walk if he wants a top dollar contract.
  18. I hope He plays lights out for the rest of year. But’s, if Brown doesn’t start living up to his draft spot this season, there is no way on earth I’d pick up that 5th year option
  19. Say what you want about how bad we’ve looked today, but that was a good drive and just what we needed to get back in this game.
  20. I have a feeling that teams are gonna run the ball down our throats all year. Their opening drive took up half of the 3rd quarter and their offense didn’t produce one explosive pass play.
  21. Never liked the pick. He wasn’t a dominant pass rusher in college. If you can’t you get to the QB in college, you probably will have a harder time in the pro because the lineman are significantly better. You don’t spend top 10 draft picks on run stuffing tackles and/or defensive ends. You spend those on pass rushers.
  22. Bogus personal foul call on the Cleveland d-lineman. Im actually glad we have to punt on this series. Things need to start looking better by halftime. If not the boos are going to start.
