He isn’t great but lead a good Minnesota defense and running game to the playoffs. He also won 5 in a row with the Saints ( again elite defense and offensive line). All I’m saying is if we miss on a QB, there are other options to make this team better and competitive even with Teddy. The position will obviously still need to be upgraded next year. If we can’t trade up and all 4 of the top tier are taken, and we miss on Watson/Stafford, this might be our plan C.

I think he has a good arm, but so does Lance. If we can get Lance at 8, keeping all our picks, I’d call that a win.
-
He absolutely is. We just don’t want to recreate what is happening in Houston. Watson is playing in his prime, but with little help giving him a worse record than we have. If we give up too much for him, we won’t have enough cap and players to make our team any more competitive than the Texans were this year.
-
I get that. I just dint think he fits what we are trying to do. Build long term winning sustainability. He is at the end of his career and we are entering year 2 of rebuild. I’m wanting to draft a young QB, but Watson being 25 and one of the best is obviously tempting. I just don’t think we should trade away any assets for another rental QB.

A 32 year old QB doesn’t need to come here and help our young team develop. He should go to the Niners or Pats or a team that is more seasoned.

Watson not the only big name vet at QB that we're looking at?

He can’t have many years left and gets injured pretty often. I’d rather have a rookie I think.... -
My point is if we make our defense elite, we can still be competitive with him. He is capable of playing the position, just not making any game changing plays. If he does his check downs to CMC, it can be dangerous. I prefer a QB in the draft, but I’m not writing them off if we don’t take one.

Depends on the rest of the roster. If there is no rookie QB behind him we either spent our draft addressing our offensive line, or adding players like Surtain, or Parsons to our defense. If we have a great offensive line, Teddy could function like he did in NO (solid enough to win) especially with CMC back. If we add a few players to our defense, it could be elite. Brown, Burns, Chinn, YGM, and Jackson have all shown promise already.

Jonathan Jones thinks Deshaun to Carolina could happen.

CMC doesn’t have many years at this elite level because of the position he plays. Watson could stay elite for the next decade. Not to mention the value the QB position carries. There is a reason the number one over all pick is almost always a QB. Franchises know an elite QB can hide a lot of weaknesses on a team. We almost won a Super Bowl with Cam and a few pieces. -
CMC, Teddy, 2021 1st, 2021 2nd, and 2022 1st. They get a franchise player in CMC, a QB to hold the spot until their rookie is ready, number 8 pick (use for a Trey Lance), high 2nd, and next year’s 1st. We shed CMC and Teddy’s contract to make Watson’s manageable and aren’t set back too much with picks.

Love how they can be traded now. We can use both of them to move up and grab a player we really like.

Prime Tom Brady or Prime Aaron Rodgers - Who would you want?

Rodney Peete. -
How much of the offense is EB vs Andy Reid. It’s like looking at Bill Belichick’s defensive coordinators. None have really made it as head coaches because it’s really his system.

Carolina Panthers 1st round draft mini breakdown
ForJimmy replied to Verge's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
I’m wanting Lance or Fields, but would be happy with Wilson. Fields can take a minute to throw the ball, but he never really had a reason to adapt. He is a great athlete who can (usually) avoid pressure. He lost what 2 games as a starter? Anyway he seems to have great work ethic and a good head on his shoulders. (Loved when we took the high road about Dabo). I see no reason why he won’t be coachable/adapt at the next level. Anyone we draft can sit behind Teddy until they are ready. -
There’s no way Bridgewater is the starter next year, right?

If we draft Lance, Teddy will start the first part of the season. Fields might be ready week one, not sure about Wilson.... -
I think Fields is going to look good against Clemson and stay in the conversation for #2 with Wilson. We will draft whichever one falls to us.
