Just own it. It’s ok. You wanted Slater if Sewell was gone because he was the other elite prospect in your eyes. Our staff either thinks Erving is good enough or this class was deep enough to find value later. I don’t think Christensen is one of the elite prospects which is my point... Sewell and Slater were. No one here is crying about it. There are legit concerns that are being brought up and that’s fine for fans to do. I love the Horn pick and hope Darnold kills it, but I’m still concerned at how much faith was put in him...

So when me and others says we can address LT later in the draft with a deep class and you insisted on one of the elite ones at 8.... Like you said it’s ok to be wrong. Hell I thought Herbert would be a bust, and Teddy would be good for us.
-
You also said we couldn’t draft a QB without a LT. Have been countered with the Chargers and Herbert, said can’t have two rookies which again countered with Cousins and RG3. We didn’t get a LT at 8 like you wanted, obviously our staff sees that differently than you. My favorite part is how you claim smokescreens aren’t common with sources line up with you, but when they don’t it’s just a smokescreen. We all have opinions on how this team should be ran and not one of us (not even Verge) is going to be right all the time or line up with our staff’s views. He has every right to be skeptical of Darnold (he was with Teddy too) and question our staff’s ability to evaluate QBs. They are 0-1 eating $40 million from their Teddy mistake so far.

I would love for Kenny Robinson to step up, but am worried they are going to use Burris out of position...

Love that data/input! Makes me feel better about him going into this season.

Anyway hopefully Darnold plays great and Horn turns into a shutdown CB and we won’t be having this conversation next year!

Pick 3 was the 3rd QB we had the 4th fall to us. Also the 4th in this draft was the 2 behind Lawrence just last year. That WFT win should matter to you because you didn’t want us taking a QB anyway. With a healthy CMC and our better defense we may not be in the top 5 even with him playing bad. He even got some late season wins on that terrible Jets team last year, Having Darnold as our uncontested starting QB was a gamble. Go around and talk to neutral fans and tell them we passed on Fields because we have Darnold and watch their expressions. It was a bold move and hopefully our staff was right. After Teddy they are 0-1 minus $40 million on QBs right now.

If he plays like Teddy or worse and we finish with a better record because our roster is better. When you are drafting in the top ten the hope is you want be there next year if you believe in what you are building. You should always look at a QB unless you have a solidified person already throwing the ball. People are acting like this is just coming from this board. Any of the negatives reviews from our draft question us banking on Darnold and not drafting one. It was a bold gamble by our staff and I hope it pays out, but if it doesn’t it clearly sets us back.

Put it this way. They went all in on Darnold. If he plays bad or gets hurt this year we have no plan B. We had an opportunity to draft a top QB, but went with Horn. If we take Fields having a potent CB1 in Horn would be our risk/cost. Our risk/cost in Darnold is potentially the picks it cost for him, the potential of Fields/Jones minus Horn, and whatever it will cost to get another guy next year plus missing a year of development and the salary of his next two years. It’s not necessarily “mortgaging our future” but it will set the team back if he struggles like he has so far. It became much more of a risk/gamble now that the draft is over and our only other options are PJ and Grier.

We didn’t just lose the picks if he doesn’t play well. We lost the opportunity to take a young QB with our top 10 picks plus whatever it costs next year to move up and grab the one we want. Even if he plays bad, I think there is too much talent for us to be picking on the top 5 next year where the QBs will be drafted. I do get the mindset of thinking Horn plus Darnold is better than risking the 8th pick on Fields who could bust also. I’m just not as sold on Darnold as our staff is...

Oh yeah, that’s best case scenario. Wilson didn’t really improve his stock until this past year, so you never know.

Matt Rhule on Sam Darnold and the QB Situation

Leveon Bell went from a top NFL RB on the Steelers to not very good on the Jets. That should give you an idea of how bad it was there. Anderson’s stats went up significantly when he came here. -

We still talking about football? -

It takes good solid contact to successfully block a defender. I don’t know how much of a difference an inch or half of inch would make versus foot movement and balance. -
Another opinion on our draft from Dator

Horn, Marshall, Tremble, Brown, and Christensen might all be starting by year end with Nixon possibly developing into a solid rotational player. I’d look out for Shi Smith on special teams and some gadget plays. Of course our LS should get playing time... -
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2022-nfl-draft-top-quarterbacks-sam-howell-malik-willis/ If Darnold struggles (hopefully he lights it up) here are a list of QBs to watch out for. Davis out of Liberty is probably going to have a stellar year.

We need a FS. Chinn is SS/LB.
-
If you want to give him credit for the Seahawks drafts (which it totally wasn’t him) then give him Sherman, Chancellor, Thomas, Wagner, and Russ (several of which were mid to late round picks).
-
Yeah I wasn’t the biggest fan of his, but he moves very well. I would say he scrambles as well as Rodgers who is considered mobile.

Any reason? He seemed to lock down whoever he was assigned to...
