  1. So the real catch is what the writer thinks a future 2nd and 6th, 4th round picks are valued. Do I value them as strong enough capital to pass on a potential franchise QB if he happens to fall to us at 8? Absolutely not. I think it was used to move on from Teddy (apparently Tepper wants this) and secure a young QB with potential in case the one we like isn’t there at 8 (which he very well might not be). Do they think Darnold can be a starter? Yeah I think they believe that. A top 10 drafted QB is viewed at as more than just a starter. They can be franchise changers. Alex Smith was a solid starter yet the Chiefs still traded up for Mahomes. It all boils down to how they view Fields and none of us know the answer nor should we at this point. Here is a great example. We viewed Teddy as a starter and gave him a solid contract showing our confidence in him. They have stated if Herbert fell to them he would have been the pick. Imagine if he did fall and we didn’t draft him because we had a potential starter in Teddy and too many needs in other areas...
  2. He is a top tier backup that won’t win or lose a game for you. It’s what he always was and still is...
  3. It takes both sides hinting at it’s all a games of unknowns. That’s the whole point of the article.
  4. I think Pitts is one of the top players on our board. I would guess we take Pitts and hopefully grab a LT in the 2nd if it falls like this.
  5. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/gm-report/are-the-panthers-not-done-at-quarterback?fbclid=IwAR2RMjAbkb_8VH4ZTV5Mwa2Q_l5IQ9U6n1CbBmcAnYrw0JX2pL0s6YLRPAg
  6. This makes the most sense. I don’t know why people are struggling with this. We got Darnold because there was significant doubt Fields will be there at 8. After the draft, Darnold’s price could go up for desperate teams. We went ahead and secured our backup plan for little draft cost.
  7. People are claiming they will be upset if we draft a QB because we have Darnold. I’ve heard we are an incomplete team, have bigger needs etc... Hopefully our staff knows better. There aren’t many “complete” teams in the league. Most teams have weaknesses and without a QB we will never be able to compete consistently.
  8. Yeah especially if a team like NE get one below us... I’m surprised people are die hard against drafting one. We were fooled with Teddy, now we are suppose to be all in on Darnold. I hope he works out, but there is just as good of a chance he doesn’t...
  9. Depends on who we get. I’ll live with a LT, might shed a small tear...
  10. I think it made them up the offer. I know they had been speaking with the Jets off and on. In on every deal right? All draft aside, I really enjoy reading your posts/debating with you. It’s never just pure opinion and I usually learn a good bit from them.
  11. He wasn’t plan A or B we know that. We also know they haven’t picked up his 5th year option yet. They also went up on their offer for Darnold (they didn’t want to trade a future 2nd for this starting QB) after the Niners traded up to 3 and the Falcons said their pick at 4 is for sale. You are doing the same thing as me and letting your feelings decide how they are thinking. They said QB is still on the table for the draft and you just ignore that part and roll with they view him as a starter. You can’t pick one piece they say and ignore another because it matches how you feel. No one knows exactly how they view Darnold or any QB from this draft. I know they are still looking at QBs and even sending staff to Fields second pro day. Is that just smoke? Maybe? Myself as well as you are always going to view it through “fanthink” because we are fans. The staff doesn’t want us to know their every thought because that would mean other teams would know as well.
  12. Now they are going to Fields second pro day right? I really don’t think he will be there at 8, and I will never be mad at drafting a LT. I just don’t like the idea of picking up players like Teddy, Sam, or QBs other teams don’t really want and thinking we can make them something better. I see Darnold has upside, but a top 10 pick should almost always considers QBs in that draft unless you have a proven player at the position. The Niners showed everyone how much it costs to trade up from the middle to get one and the price might go up in the future.
  13. I think he is better than what they have now. If something better falls to them they should draft him. Since we are quoting what they said, “it doesn’t take us out of taking a quarterback” is exactly what our GM said after Darnold. That shows me they acquired him for in case one doesn’t fall to them (which it probably won’t).
  14. Would a player competing for our LT spot not be viewed as a starter quality player? I’m sure they view him as having starter qualities, however the jury is still very much out. You don’t get starter quality QBs for what we traded for him. Assuming he is the absolute answer isn’t much different that doing it with Teddy like we did last year. What did Rhule and Fitts say about drafting a QB?
  15. So they told Darnold he will be there starter? Seeing someone as a potential starter isn’t that different that saying you will compete for the starting job. Where is the context of the team constantly saying this? I see they like his grit and talent. You are talking about the coach who says he looks forward to working with Cam before he got released. It seems pretty clear that no one is penciled as the starter before the draft.
  16. They also told Irving they see him as our LT AND said they may draft a QB still. Right now he is the starter because it’s him or Teddy. If a talent falls to them, that may change.
  17. You don’t think QB is a need? Sam Darnold solved it about as well as Irving solved our LT need.
  18. They had the hardest strength of schedule. I posted plenty of links a few posts above.
  19. It would be an open competition if we draft a QB. If Fields beats out Darnold as a starter then we spent a future 2nd on our backup, but probably have something in Fields. If Darnold wins out, let Fields sit and you have many options. Start Fields later, trade Darnold (if you pick up his 5th) after this year. Let Darnold go in FA and get a nice comp pick or if Darnold looks like the real deal you trade Fields (yeah you wasted a first, but you have your franchise guy for the next decade plus). The position has to be addressed and can’t have a constant revolving door. If our 8th pick helps solve it, then it’s a draft pick well spent.
  20. Could mean they doubt he falls to 8 so they went with a backup plan just in case. I don’t think his Pro Day hurt his stock in any way. It was right there with Wilson’s from what I’ve seen/read.
  21. Yeah some definite cherry picking going on. Fields faced the toughest defenses of any QB in this draft. He didn’t have his top WR some of his line and other starters against these teams. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.buckeyextra.com/amp/3828058001 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sportingnews.com/us/amp/ncaa-football/news/ohio-state-covid-list-alabama/1lmo5oskb36ce1qx8ie66s9uvv (yeah that’s 14 players out against the top team) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/.amp/college/2020/12/19/ohio-state-inactives-big-ten-championship (22 against NW including his top WR and WR coach) Yeah all teams had to play around this virus but it crushed Ohio St and the had to miss games entirely as a team. Here is a strength of schedule ranking with Ohio St ranked at.... ONE. https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/schedule-strength-by-other Now this site ranks the rosters based on recruiting. Ohio St was 5 last year and 14 in 2019. Clemson was 3, and 10 while Alabama was 2 and 1. https://www.google.com/amp/s/athlonsports.com/college-football/ranking-college-footballs-rosters-2020%3famp
  22. I’m torn on this. Seems like he needs more reps to be taken at 8, but his potential is off the charts!
