How long will the Carolina Panthers rebuild take?
ForJimmy replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
They acquired Goff, whose rookie year looked similar to Youngs. It can be looked at either way. Sounds like Goff was playing some decent football after his rookie season. Multiple Pro Bowls and winning like you said. If we get that from Bryce we can have similar success. -

Who looked awful his rookie year? 18.3 QBR 5.3 YPA 5 TDs 7 INTs. Goff may have had some of the worst play his rookie year as well. Stats can be used to spin whatever narrative you want. -

Notebook: Dave Canales "open" to playing starters Saturday
ForJimmy replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Also why are there Canales "defenders"? I would think most people give him the benefit of the doubt until actual games are played. Why are we drawing lines in the sand and putting people on certain sides? -
Milton looking legit like Cam lol. We coulda drafted him for nothing Milton looking like Cam out there Trade for Joe milton please A star is born PFF just said Joe Milton is already better than Bryce Young They wouldn't swap Bryce for Milton currently Imagine if we drafted Milton and he played like that for us last night, the boards would have already sent Bryce packing Just some quotes when you search for Milton on here. I don't think you ever overreacted buy there are definitely some dramatic people on here who do and will.

If the starters are injured then yeah the offense wouldn’t be ready. One definitely leads to the other but sure keep spinning in your way. You also stated there is no way they are playing this weekend right? Figuring out the OL would be getting them healthy. It literally what he said he was asked the first couple weeks. “I’m open to playing our guys this week. The same thing I told you after the game is true though. We have to look at what does that group look like if we put everybody out there? Are there enough of those guys to say this is valuable for us to get these reps? Once we start to get into the depth of different positions that kind of forces our hand sometimes on can we play guys? Today was a hard practice. Tomorrow is going to be another hard one. For me, I have to make sure we get through these two days, collect that information, and then I make the decision.” -
I bet we still aren’t happy. Also a lot of preseason is against backups. The Pats played against our 3rd stringers and we were deeming Milton the next Cam.

The problem is we didn't have enough starters healthy early on. Our LG is just getting healthy, Hunt was in and out of joint practice, XL was injured, and Johnson is injured. It would be our QB behind an incomplete OL without his first round WR and he best WR. Tremble was also banged up along with out backup tackle and backup QB (imagine if Dalton's injury lingered and Bryce gets hurt. You want Plummer in the regular season?). I think this is why he didn't play them early. He kept saying we see how they are looking health wise before he made a decision. So he could trot out half an offense or try to make some play through mild injuries that could turn more severe. Now if you are wanting reps vs starters that is tough to find. The Pats played their starters for 1 series and the Jets didn't play them at all. So that would have been one brief series of a offense missing key pieces going against a Pats defense in week 1. Again there are 100s of different factors that go into this, which is why there isn't one specific way to do it. -

I'm on the same boat. Try to put a competitive team on the field and if we get 6 wins with a functioning offense I'll call it a success. -
Maybe it’s a good sign we held our own against NYJ? Who knows?

What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?
ForJimmy replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Right. It's a working progress regardless. I'm sure people will blame preseason, but it's really irrelevant. -

Plus Bryce played in the preseason his rookie year. Cross everyone off his list but Stroud, AR, and Levis. -

I get it. It's why I'm on the boat of it doesn't matter. Play them and get the ready, sounds good. Keep them healthy and work on depth, go for it. -

It just shows there are so many different ways to do this. Last week would have been against the Jets backups as they didn’t play starters either. The Patriots starters barely played week 1 also. -

Wouldn't this be the whole getting reps and getting comfortable in the offense argument? -
What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?
ForJimmy replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I could be wrong but I don’t think the upset fans are mad about the losses/wins. They just want to see the starters get reps and look comfortable. It’s why I understand both sides, I just don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people are making it. Thanks for the data though! -

Beating our win total from last year in 4 games would be incredible. It’s not likely regardless of preseason. I know people want definite answers but we are going to be bad regardless so it will be hard to tell one way or another. -
Just keep practicing it and trying it and see what happens. Looks like he hit ISM and TMJ deep this same practice (just looking at the tweets shared in this thread). So 2/3 this practice that we know of. He will either get the timing down or not, but it looks like DC isn't going to shy away from it which is good.

Different perspective for not starting the starters in preseason...
ForJimmy replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
And won a Super Bowl not playing his starters. Again he tried both approaches and is sticking his keeping his starters out of preseason games. Try to spin it differently but that looks like he prefers one vs the other.
