Here is my thought process. Even if Darnold isn’t that great we may still win our fair share of games (see Teddy last year) plus our defense should be much improved. So if we are picking mid to late first next year we saw how expensive it is to move up for a QB (thanks Niners). If one falls in our lap at 8 like Fields I think you absolutely take him. If hell freezes over and Darnold turns into the second coming of Peyton Manning you can still get a return for Fields (Darnold sucked at they got a 2, 4, and 6). If Darnold is still bad or just average we have a rookie top pick to compete with him, become the starter and hopefully be our franchise QB. It’s such an important position that we shouldn’t settle until we have the right guy. I know we need a LT, but if Sewell isn’t there I don’t see a huge drop off from Slater and the other LTs in this draft. This is a good year to possibly grab a talent in the 2nd round. I would feel MUCH better with Darnold and Fields competing behind a line with a solid 2nd round LT (NDSU guy, Alabama guy both look capable) than just Darnold behind say Slater going into next year. If Darnold and Fields struggle then we can start to look at our staff...

Love Lance’s potential, but do you think we should get him at 8? I wouldn’t be upset with it just curious. My order is Sewell, Fields, and then maybe trade down? I need to watch more film of Slater something about him is throwing me off for the number 8 pick...

Darnold is a great low risk insurance plan. He just shouldn’t be our set in stone starting QB next year. If a name becomes available or a top prospect falls to us, I hope we strongly consider it...

Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
ForJimmy replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am in one about “Teddy Bridgewater Likely on the Outs in Carolina” looking for news on that? Yet here you are still talking about that QB from the Texans.... -

There are other forums for nonPanther threads. Please learn how to use them. -

You have a creepy obsession with Watson. He is not a Panther and may not be a NFL player much longer. Move on and find something else to talk about... -

I’m sure we will eat a chunk of his salary for another team to accept this trade... -
Our line was waaaay better than the Jets line...

So if another high potential QB is there do you pass? Say something crazy happens and like Zach Wilson falls to 8. Do you go all in on Darnold and pass on him?

It makes sense except we have seen our QB in this league (terrible circumstances I know) and it was very below average. Can we turn it around with the right staff? Maybe... hopefully? We just shouldn’t be satisfied and assume he is the answer. If another guy we like a lot is available we shouldn’t ignore it because of our Sammy D Take Two Project.

Teams looking to trade up for quarterbacks
ForJimmy replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m 100% with you on this. The Falcons are dangling that pick for the highest bidder. Our best chance was at 5 at who knows if the Bengals even wanted to trade and who would even be available then (Mac Jones scary thought). We locked up our backup plan so we don’t have to mortgage our future on a rookie QB who may not be the answer... If Fields falls to us, I really hope we draft him. Denver won’t hesitate to right behind us. If one doesn’t fall then we were right and will roll the dice with Sammy D. -
My only concern is we pass a QB that falls to us at 8 (hopefully we never draft this high again) because we are “all in” on Darnold. If none fall to us then it looks like a solid move. If one falls to us and we draft him anyway, I’ll still be ok with the move. It’s basically next year’s second which hopefully won’t be as high as it is this year. I’m ok with taking a low risk move on a QB that has potential, but I’m not ok with ignoring other options because he MIGHT be better than advertised.

Stephen A hates Gase more than he likes Darnold...

Teams looking to trade up for quarterbacks

I think there is one elite LT in this draft (Sewell) if we take him I’ll be thrilled. Not fully sold on Slater, but won’t be upset with him... -

If Sewell and Fields are gone, trading down is fine with me. Plenty of LTs available... -
This man was born to play LT.

I think I’m changing my order to Sewell, Fields, trade down...

I was waiting for him to yell and he didn’t disappoint.

He also had waaay better weapons than Darnold. They fixed his line and got him a smart coach and he led them right to the playoffs. I know I’m a Fields guy, but this is a strong argument for us to draft a LT at 8...
