Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
Basbear replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yea I dont even think the tag is fair, too much. Still the panthers are in a awful spot- pay far too much or lose one of 4-5 talented players. I dont get burns and all his PR stuff about " i dont like moving, i dont like change, love the panthers, etc etc"(must be BS) Then he wants QB money for RB value. His team/agent must have been told by other teams they are willing to drop 30 per. Burns is only 25 years old with five years of NFL exp. That is rare for any spot especially DE/edge guys. I mean DJ johnson was a 2023 draftee and he was 25 then. Panthers are going to lose either way it feels like..... -
Smitty on the 2024 WR Draft Class (w/cliffnotes)
Basbear replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Smitty missed a couple predictions, so that means he sucks?? Please........anyone that feels that way, list your top 10 rookie WRs and lets check the list after some time. Smitty is as good as they come about rookie WRs, holy hell @ "hes not batting 1.000 crowd" -
Adam Gold with Ryan Wilson from CBS Sports

didnt he have two acl injuries among other issues? -
If I were GMing da bears, Id make sure each year form now Id always have two 1st rounders. Like trade back a small amount and get a future 1 along with the current and mine. Lastest update about them- Caleb Williams will be the pick and fields just took them off his SM.

I got you now about the 1.8 vs 900 deal. Sometimes a drafted class does increase the 51 floor, but I understand your point point that -900k + 1.8 doesnt = +1.8 I believe a big part of the issue is the signing bonus counts no matter. Thats the 86k hit, its a portion of allotted SB. Its guaranteed and spent, unlike the per game contract were you can get cut anyday during. Plus another deal we are missing is early drafted rookies contracts are nearly all guaranteed, unlike if you signed a 5th year guy. That 33rd drafted player will get 10 million if hes cut during TC and that counts against the cap. That maybe why its 1.8 cause the SB and contract are fully guaranteed(*nearly) Also I noticed during the season the panthers had 1-2 spots left open on game days. Then you got PS call ups and form what I know they get more money up to 4 times a year. Again taking cap space. I think there are veteran exceptions about paying more while the cap number is listed lower, which makes understanding it harder too. -
Add in free agency too. The best player on each side were UDFAs that each of their former teams didnt care to resign. If you view eddy > johnny , then add STs as well. Panthers kept on re-signing there own bad players form 5 win teams. I think feel they need a new strength staff as well. The last few years the team plays soft and weak. Then theres been more injuries as well. Team is de-void of talent and no depth for the below average starters. Roster truly needs around 40 players and thats if young somehow turns out ok. Just the timeline of mass exodus of leadership and talent form the rivera era into the poor player player development era of rhule(which is a big reason he was hired), then limp dick frank reich not wanting to fix this mess he signed up for. You got the giant mess of a expansion level NFL team with very little cap space for the 4-5 guys that need 20 million per type contracts. There will be no texans like turn-around here.

Wilson sat out the final 5 or so games too. He was playing much better than the start, it was the opposite of howell. Just didnt run paytons plays like he wanted and they fell out of the playoff race. If not for payton, id say broncos have it worse than the panthers. Both will struggle for the next three years barring miracles.

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns

Picks in rounds 2,3,4 are simply more than the 51st. Normally the cut off point for most 51st is around 900,000. I dont know what you are asking, sportac list both the cap and 51st cap numbers. Best I know lots guys have the 51st number. -
Still blows my mind that young was the consensus #1 pick and now one year later you got all these looky loons coming out with " Told youz guyz he sucks ass!" I think about 70% of the huddle was "young is the better player" by draft day. It's still a nightmare for us cj stroud fan boys with young on the team.....

Deal is more than likely the BPA will be an offensive player. Besides safety, punter, LS(age tho..), kicker. Panthers need talented starters and depth everywhere. Even if morgan starts hitting on rounds 2-7, it will still take 3 years min, to even think about .500. Thats if the other nfc south teams keep terrible HCs employed and dont find a franchise QB during those 3 years. Odds are they will hire better coaches and at least one will find that golden QB. Which pushes the panthers to 5 years before they are able to post a winning record. Sad times bros...

@Verge last season I non-stopped asked you to be joking each time you listed young to the panthers. Now you got another 5'8 dwarf heading to the panthers for their first pick this year. Why must you hurt me.......

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns

It is top 51 if you can read the far right figure. Only the picks 2,3,4 "count" and the signing bonus of 5 and 6 count. Well the yearly bonus rate. Its 4,116,387. Add in the signing bonus of UDFAs adds a few thousand. I think the limit is for SB UDFAs is 160,000 or it maybe 225,000. Rules change yearly I dont know what the current cap for them is. Still 4mill + 22mill = Not enough for anyone else, including injuries, PS, FAs. Ive always heard smart teams want at min 10-8mill for just in-season injuries. Thats why burns team holds the cards, team needs burns to do a couple favors and burns wants a couple million extra to help the panthers. heres the link- https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/cap/ 3/4 form the bottom, if youre having issues reading that pic I had. -

I think sportac has the rookie cap number- 4.1 add another 2,000,000 or so for UDFAs. I think 2-5 should make this sorry-ass roster. -

After the rams fumble, Burns side is holding a full house. They know the panthers valued him more than two future 1s and 2nd current. They also know the panthers current cap sits around 30. For burns to remain a panther he needs to do THEM a favor of signing a long term deal with a low cap number in the first. *Another deal is this- burns is 25 years old. Im betting his agent/team wants a 3 year or max 4 year deal so he can "cash" in another huge deal...which is rare for the NFL. I think the panthers want him to sign a 5-7 year deal with low cap numbers in the first couple. That doesnt seem to vibe with the idea of burns getting two big deals. So sad that the panthers are the worst team in the NFL with such poor cap space. Plus they are paying a rookie QB, terrible to be here. The sun does look better 100+ miillllllion better in 2025. -

The issue is not the number, welll its the number but its the cap number. the team has around 30 million in space. burns @ 22mill + rookie pool 5 mill = nothing but a couple mill for in-season injuries. im sure thats the biggest issue.....i take that back burns play is the true issue.... -

off-season has started!!1!1!11!!! -
Jones has already said hes coming back to KC.

Hes either the best hire or 2nd, imo. As a whole I would put tilis above him, but offense-wise....goodwin maybe a bigger talent.
