I am very pleasantly surprised. I said this in another thread, but the bottom of the league is absolutely terrible this year. I'm not sure how much I value some of these wins, but, at least they aren't losses. Our organization has been so nonfunctional, I'm not sure you can really evaluate either of these two. Dan Morgan has done some things I love. Canales has done some things I love. We are nowhere near league average though. So tough to say. I don't find either to be fireable right now. The measuring stick is the w/l record, and that appears to be improving from last year, for whatever that's worth. Going into this season I thought we were a bottom three team in the league, and then Derrick Brown got hurt, making us even worse. I think we have overshot my very low expectations. But we are not even playing the same sport as the best teams in the NFL right now.

We are not good, but I don't know if I've ever seen the bottom of the league this bad. There's about 22 actual NFL teams this year, and the bottom 10 are absolutely awful. The well run organizations are eating the poorly run organizations alive right now. That's always been the case, but I don't know if I've ever seen it this pronounced. The only saving grace for the 10 awful teams is that we all seem to play each other this year, which is making it look a lot better than it is. We are actually trending up a little bit (not much, don't blow this out of proportion), but like every one of those bottom teams is absolutely miserable to watch. They are completely incapable on at least one side of the ball.

I think you are at a major advantage if you have the ability to run the football as a quarterback. It can mask a lot of issues. Much like RG3, or Anthony Richardson, immediate impact is a lot easier with a running QB. Anthony Richardson already appears to be a bust, despite him turning some heads early last year. Vince Young was a ROY. I do think Jayden is a lot better than a lot of those guys, but I think he's got a fair amount of development to do as well. Stroud looks a lot better than Bryce, I won't dispute that, but he's taken a very big step back this year off of last year. Houston has a myriad of issues on the offensive side of the ball. This is just a trend we seem to be seeing everywhere. Very few QB's are pro ready anymore, and just when we are ready to give up on a guy, he does the thing where he becomes competent, (not necessarily good). Sam Bradford, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and so on and so forth. The list of evidence is enormous. But to your point, the highest miss rate of any position in football is quarterback. The vast majority of them do not pan out. More than likely, that is the case here.

I think we should temper the expectations a bit. A few weeks ago everyone was ready to move on from and/or trade Bryce. He's CLEARLY developing. I just think it takes a lot longer to develop a quarterback in this era of football. He clearly has a better grasp and understanding of his role and responsibilities within this offense. College football is in terrible shape right now with NIL, transfer portal, covid, and all the like. All those offenses have to keep it as simple as possible, so that they can insert a QB they found into the scheme, and have as much success as possible in that year, because he may go somewhere else next year. It is really crushing professional quarterback development. Nobody in college really runs a very pro style offense anymore, because it takes so much more time and effort to do that right. Few run a college offense in the NFL, because with the extreme athleticism and high football acumen, it just wouldn't work as well. I don't think it's any coincidence that Bryce looks so much better after watching and learning from a guy who did it at a very high level for a long time. I particularly like seeing Bryce making more adjustments at the line of scrimmage. I think Bryce is on the right track and I'm very pleased. I also think Dave Canales has done a very good job with his development. I know that's what we hired him to do, but it seems to be the popular thing to poo poo Canales for some reason. Next step for Bryce is to do this against a team that is not terrible.

BREAKING:Panthers re-sign Chuba Hubbard

Did you feel good about Chuba coming into this season? Because I didn't. Major JAG vibes. -
BREAKING:Panthers re-sign Chuba Hubbard

He's definitely earned it. I don't love giving money to a RB on second contract, but I'll take it here. -
Can We Not Over React to This One Game??
ImfromClayton replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Man I feel like objectively Bryce is developing. QB's typically do not develop overnight. The ones that do are freaks. I think it's also fair to say that Bryce's ceiling is a lot lower than we thought it was. Yesterday was one of his better games. His two best throws were not completed, but some of his poor throws got good results too. The saints not even considering throwing it to Jaycee's side of the field was freaking awesome. Not sure even Josh Norman ever got that treatment. Coker and XL will be part of the long term solution here. We have some solid young pieces. Must get a pass rush somehow. That is a dire circumstance at the moment. -
Tepper is making ALL decisions
ImfromClayton replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've just seen it. He's much less involved in the media. Much less demanding of the spotlight. He knows he has royally screwed this thing up. But as said in a previous post, he's screwed up badly enough that it's going to take years to fix. At this point the organization is so non-functional that it is very difficult to evaluate anything. -

Tepper has stepped back. The problem is the mess he created is going to take years to fix. He's not micromanaging at this point. -
NFL seems to have a quarterback development issue. Entire league appears to be struggling with it. The college game is just moving so far away from what the NFL is with the portal and NIL. Simple is the name of the game in college now. Even "can't miss" guys like Lawrence and Darnold are taking a very long time to develop. The guys that can run will always have an advantage early, but they are also much more likely to get hurt. Not sure we will ever see an era of Quarterbacks like the mid 2000's to the mid 2010's again.

I think T Mac is going to be a special player. But I don't know how anybody can look at this team and say "wide receiver, that's what we need 1,1." Granted, many of them have been awful, but we have used so much draft capital on receivers. This team needs help on defense. Interior D line, Edge rushing, linebackers, and in the secondary. The only way you go offense in my view is if you fall in love with a quarterback. I just do not like this crop. Cam Ward is my favorite, but I'm not sure that's an NFL guy.

Jaycee Horn post game confrontation with Sean Payton
ImfromClayton replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I absolutely love this. Build Jaycee a statue. We need more guys that take this personally. That was 100% sean peyton being a douche and running up the score. ... now we need to actually stop him though instead of just call him out... -
Dave Canales is one and done.... part 2.
ImfromClayton replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Said it before, will say it again. everything is so bad about this franchise right now, it’s really hard to evaluate anyone. It’s a results based business, and canales is expected to win. But I’m not sure that job was possible this season. so he may get fired, but I don’t think he deserves it. -
Kuechly Advances to Next Round of HOF Voting
ImfromClayton replied to Fenrir's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was the best linebacker I ever saw. An absolute freak of nature with a high motor that played the game smarter than everybody else. I was fortunate enough to be close enough to hear him on several occasions during games, and it's true what they say. He knew what was coming and called it out correctly often. When he spoke, everyone listened. -
We have to figure out our future core team
ImfromClayton replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
It starts and ends with roster construction. We haven't drafted well, and then we've moved the quality that we did have. But this is not an NFL roster. My fear is that most of the pieces up and down the chain of command in scouting have remained in tact. -
Young to Miami (Trade proposal via fox)
ImfromClayton replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would say a 3rd and a 6th is a king's ransom based on what he's shown this season. That check down on 3rd down is all the evidence you need. He is mentally not here and needs a reset button, and we need the draft capital. -
Texted my buddies this, but as envious as I am of David Tepper's money, I am not envious of his job in fixing this mess. Everything is so bad, it's impossible to get a good evaluation of anything. I'm glad we won a game but this is one of the worst teams I've ever seen. We have multiple position groups that have 1 or less players that should even be back end NFL guys. Mix in the injuries and it's just a whole lot of bad. I'm not defending Canales, but I'm not sure we can evaluate his coaching at all. Evero has proved it under multiple staffs, but is failing miserably here this year. There's only one common denominator left.

Only rooms you can feel decent about are offensive line, WR and RB. Outside of those areas you gotta go BPA. Wouldn’t even hate a LT or a WR. Defense needs a lot of assistance just to reach the point of below average in the NFL. This group is pretty historically bad.

Are we now actively pulling for David Tepper to fail?
ImfromClayton replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't recall anybody wanting him to fail. I feel like in his earliest days people loved him. He was very visible, he went to tailgates, he got us an MLS team, he dropped plans to improve facilities. All that was juxtaposed over the things we didn't like about Jerry Richardson, and his unceremonious exit. I really do think he's learning, but he screwed up so badly with football decisions it's going to take several years to fix. If he's learned to stay out of football decisions, he's going to be fine as an owner. If he hasn't, we will be the jets. -

ImfromClayton replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t understand some of these threads. I don’t like him either, but he will never sell this team unless he does some diddy stuff and the other owners make him. hate him all you want but he will never be shamed into selling. Ever. It’s a license to print money. -
If We Don't Win Another Game. Do We Make Any Trades??
ImfromClayton replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dionte and Adam Thielen are gone. Get whatever value you can get. must re-sign horn. Chuba I can see both sides. I do not like giving a RB a 2nd contract, see: Miles Sanders. Not sure we can spend money on a RB at the moment but I do like him. I’d take value over nothing for him.
