The fact remains. This team as is will not win the Cup. I’m all for sustaining our window but we could have a very different team in just 2 years with the amount of UFA/RFAs coming off the books. This team NEEDS a consistent scorer. Svech, Necas, Aho all disappear for long stretches and in the playoffs that’s not going to cut it - especially against those NHL darlings like the Rangers who are going to get PP opportunities and convert on a lot of them. If it takes Jarvis+ to get Meier, I would make that trade today. The front office acknowledged that deficiency with the Patches trade so I trust them to make a game changing trade before the deadline.

Meier. Kane is injury prone and old. We need more youth and someone who isn’t afraid to bang.

I have a lot of thoughts… 1). What exactly is Svech providing to the team? He’s been the same player for several seasons and hasn’t scored in weeks. He need to be leveling guys if he’s not going to score on a consistent basis. 2). It’s time for a trade. Our “stars” are way too hot and cold. Necas, Aho, Svech, etc. can go several games without scoring. It’s time to trade for Meier. If that takes Jarvis, so be it. 3). The PP is a joke. Fire the coach that’s responsible for it. We all know who it is. Hold them accountable. Way too much skill on the roster to be this inept at scoring on it. 4). We need Meier. Period. At worst, he scores less but uses his body to set the tone. We need a F that’s going to abuse the opposition if Svech isn’t going to be that guy. 5). We were rusty and left Freddie out to dry all night. It’s frustrating considering who we were playing. There might be a psychological aspect there. Aho, Necas, and Brady especially all looked lost and ass. If they don’t use this cap space, it’s a clear message to the organization and the fans. Aho may walk after next year. He’s competitive as they come and wants to win. We need to use this space and can do so while making the team better now and keeling our window open.

Some good news about special teams. It’s getting better. Last year at this time, it was getting worse. PP has climbed up to 22nd in the league at exactly 20%. PK is on fire and have climbed up to 7th and 81.9%. Getting better.

I have hopes KK will become the eventual 2C. He’s younger than Svech and if he does become the 2C, that contract is highway robbery. I’d also like to Necas get a shot there but he needs to work on his FOs. The team has a lot of flexibility with the cap and assets to go after an elite rental or a Meier type player via sign and trade. This team could look very different in a couple of years. This should be the year you go all in.

I would take a physical winger who can bang and score and a 3rd paring defenseman at the trade deadline please and thank you. Don’t think we are going to outbid NJD nor should we for Meier. He will elevate their already potent offense. Need to keep up in the eastern conference arms race.

We looked visibly tired that period which is to be expected. Have to hold the fort this period.

I wish but Aho seems like the type to bolt if we don’t do everything we can to win a Cup. A franchise like Boston or the Canadian teams won’t hesitate to expend all available resources in quest of a Cup.

I’m tempted to buy an Aho jersey. He’s a UFA next year. So we resign him? Rather does he resign with us.
