They had JJ Jansen talking about this on the radio this morning. He said the kick can get more involved because he is only one that can move before the returner catches the ball. So makes sense if you have a defensive player who can also kick perform kickoff duties. He said that if this trickles down to college then you will have more players who can tackle and perform kickoff duties. He also said that rules for kickoff is not set in stone and the nfl is looking for feedback from coaches
