we were the only ones who wanted sam darnold lol
Jay Roosevelt replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the chances Darnold ends up being the answer for us is at best 20%. Still, it's worth a shot I suppose. Unlike when we signed Teddy at least we can say Darnold does have the arm talent to be a franchise QB. That was never true of Teddy Bridgewater. There are at least circumstances surrounding Darnold's career so far (Adam Gase, lack of talent surrounding him) that indicate he could break out with a change of scenery. Plus, it's not like a future 2nd rounder is going to make or break this franchise. Odds are if Darnold doesn't pan out we'll be picking high enough next year to draft a QB anyway. -
I know I would.

I feel like this is my best one yet:
-
I prefer Slater, so I certainly wouldn't trade up for Sewell because it's highly likely one of the two will be there at #8 regardless.
-
I just don't think we should be looking for just "better than Bridgewater" at this point. The only interest I have in Sam Darnold is that there may be some untapped potential there that we can get out of him that the Jets could not. Otherwise, I'd just assume start Will Grier and hope for a high enough pick next year to draft a legit franchise QB.

There's no reason for Teddy Bridgewater to ever start for us again. He's just good enough to keep us out of a prime draft pick. If we don't land a QB somehow I'd just assume start Will Grier and hope he either emerges as a viable QB or is bad enough that we end up with the #1 pick next year.

It's not impossible. You never know with the draft. I don't really have a preference between Wilson, Fields, and Lance.

The next Reuben Foster.

Yeah... pass.

Can he play football, though?

Steelers Cut Starting CB Steven Nelson

We need someone with a little size. Jackson is solid, but he just doesn't have the size to match up with the bigger wideouts. -
Sounds like Jets' 2nd pick is open for business...?

Y'all are obsessed with playing it safe. Using that approach we'll be stuck with Teddy forever. -

Eh... not sure I'd take too much from this. That said, I do think they'll move down for the right price. -
Tua is awful.

Isaiah Wilson cut after one week on Fins...

Damn, what a waste. Some people just don't want to succeed. -
Go on record. Who still wants Watson?
Jay Roosevelt replied to Sasquatch's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've wanted Watson here from the start and have MAJOR questions regarding the validity of these claims and the behavior of the lawyer representing these women, but we obviously cannot even consider a trade until this is resolved and unless Watson is cleared. -
Something is up with this situation. The timing alone is VERY suspect and this lawyer sounds more like a cable news talk show host. Maybe I'm wrong, but something just doesn't add up here.
-
I can't believe there are actually people who are against us acquiring a young franchise QB like Watson. You guys are still stuck in the Jerry Richardson mindset of how to build a team. All the stud RBs, pass rushers, and successful 1st round picks we've had since 2002 and yet if you take out the one pick that was a franchise QB (Cam) we'd have gotten nothing for all of them. Without a QB, nothing else matters. With one, you have a shot. Yes, you have to build around him, but without one to build around you might as well forfeit every game because you're never going to be more than average unless you can somehow manage to put together an all-time great defense, which is practically impossible these days between the rules and the salary cap.

REPORT: Panthers interested in Texans LB
Jay Roosevelt replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's not that good. Classic cleanup tackler with inflated numbers. Not good in coverage either. -
Panthers interested in Falcons Keanu Neal

Report: we missed out on CB Shaquill Griffin

Whew. I'm glad we didn't pay him that kind of money. -
Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence
Jay Roosevelt replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
The key thing to me is whether he's got the work ethic and drive to be great. Because with his skillset if he does the sky is the limit. Everything I've heard/read leads me to believe he absolutely does. Watching his pro day the biggest takeaway I had wasn't what he did on the field, but the fact that they said he'd spent the season studying NFL offenses and defenses in preparation for the draft. That tells me he's willing to do what it takes to make the leap to the NFL. I'd love to have him here, but I still think we're going to have to trade up in order to get him. The question is: how high? I'd surely hate to see the Falcons take this guy and let him sit behind Matt Ryan for a year before becoming the next Patrick Mahomes. -
Vikings cut Riley Reiff. Could be a decent LT option.
