"We should draft Marcel Dareus instead of Cam Newton."

He wasn't my first choice (Steichen) but we could have done worse. But without a QB it won't matter who the coach is.

Quarterbacks win championships

Nobody thought Mahomes was Mahomes at the time either. That's my point; you gotta take your shots until you get your guy. -

Ray Lewis won 2 Super Bowls in a 17 year career; Patrick Mahomes has already won 2 in 5 seasons as a starter. How many Super Bowls do you think Ray Lewis would have won if he'd had Patrick Mahomes as his QB? -

Sam Darnold is never winning a Super Bowl as anything other than a backup. I can't believe anyone would compare him going 4-2 over a 6 game stretch to what we saw last night. That's the ultimate loser's mentality. Many QBs have had win streaks and even winning seasons. It doesn't mean they'd ever win a Super Bowl even with the most talented roster. Every so often you get a Brad Johnson or a Trent Dilfer who wins on the back of an all-time elite defense, but those defenses are all but impossible to put together today and neither of those QBs could have ever won that game last night against either Mahomes or Hurts. It's not 1995 anymore; the "punt isn't a bad play" era is over. Powerhouse teams today win with top-tier QBs leading explosive offenses who can score when they have to. A good defense certainly helps but everything else is built on the foundation of the franchise QB. You don't have one, you might as well forfeit every game because even if your half-ass retread/draft bust/castoff QB can manage to get into the playoffs with 8 or 9 wins you're not getting to a Super Bowl, ever. And as long as that's the case, what's the point? If you're not either competing for a championship or building toward becoming a team that can then you're just going through the motions. -

I love how some folks are so worried about "mortgaging the future" by giving up draft capital to trade up for a QB but don't seem to realize that without a QB no amount of draft capital means a damn thing. A team full of drafted Pro Bowlers without a QB IS a waste of draft capital because without one the team has no future. It's entirely possible trading up for a QB could backfire on us, but that's the way it goes. We have to at least TRY to get our guy. What's the alternative? Trotting out other team's table scraps year after year? Outside of getting insanely lucky and hitting on a Jalen Hurts outside of round 1 that's what we're going to be stuck with if we don't at least take our shot at finding a franchise QB. -

I have no interest in Carr or Lamar. DRAFT A QB!!! -
I actually gave them our 1st rounder next year as well, but it doesn't show that for some reason.

Panthers hire Josh McCown as QB coach

Interesting... -
I don't get the obsession with McCaffrey. He's not a Panther anymore, therefore he's just another player on another team. He was good for us, but he's not Cam Newton, Steve Smith, Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis, Sam Mills, etc.

This. I distinctly remember reading several articles last fall about Stroud's leadership qualities. Now all of a sudden he's "aloof" and "not a leader."
-
Said all along, I'm all for going all-in to trade up for Stroud OR Young. Levis and Richardson should be fall-back options.

Do we get a 3rd round pick?

Panthers Request Interview w/ Evero for DC

Surely he views our defense as better equipped talent-wise if his goal is to get a head coaching job. -

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go put some water in Sean Payton's mama's dish. -
His age bothers me more than his performance, TBH. But I trust Reich to develop him if he's the guy.

PFF Top 100 Free Agents and their projected contract
Jay Roosevelt replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd love to have Jessie Bates, but no safety is worth $75M outside of Ed Reed in his prime. That said, his teammate Vonn Bell is also a very good player who would come a lot cheaper. I'd love to see us go after him. -

If that's all it'll cost to sign Mike Gesicki then sign me up. -
I feel very strongly about this... Derek Carr.
Jay Roosevelt replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Carr is certainly MUCH better than any of the scraps we've acquired over the past 3-4 years. That said, I still prefer to finally address QB early in the draft. But I wouldn't be upset if we signed Carr, just a little disappointed. -

THE ATHLETIC: Potential cap casualties….
Jay Roosevelt replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shaq is an interesting call. There's no way we can keep him at that cap number but if we cut him we're going to owe him $11M in dead money anyway and I don't see any way we're going to find a replacement in free agency for much less than the difference. I'd say the ideal situation would be to extend him on a 3-4 year deal that spreads the cap hit out a little over the life of the contract. Reduce this year's cap hit while locking up a key starter and leader on defense. But we'll see. -
Cam dominated the SEC at Auburn.

The board just didn't fall that way. Both Mayer and Washington were off the board by the time I picked in the 2nd and the value just wasn't there in the later rounds compared to who I ended up taking.
