Bryce vs. Maye which Qb has the higher upside
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Upside? Maye. Higher floor? Bryce. -
Don't know about Milroe, but that Michigan kicker wouldn't be a bad pick in the draft.

Anyone who can't see that Bryce has played pretty damn well since returning to the lineup just doesn't want to. Has he reached his potential as a former #1 overall pick? No, obviously. But he has gradually gotten better and has flashed big time QB potential at times, which given how awful he was to start the season is a borderline miracle in itself. There is ZERO reason he shouldn't be the clear starter going into 2025. Wasting draft picks on mid-round QBs when you have a guy who you gave up a ton for that is FINALLY starting to figure it out is just stupid. We need a veteran backup and maybe a young developmental QB behind Bryce. Which is basically what we have now with Dalton + Plummer. I wouldn't have a problem re-signing Dalton as the backup, but we should be able to do better than Jack Plummer as the #3. Jalen Milroe in the 3rd? Not with an early 3rd rounder, no. With a late 3rd or with our 4th? Yes, that makes sense at that price. But we have too many needs to go bargain QB hunting if there are players at other positions that can help us with those picks.

If we don't keep Evero it needs to be Robert Salah.

My three main observations from this game... 1) Our defense is ass cheeks. 2) Bryce played really well, especially considering the pressure. 3) Never doubt how important Chuba Hubbard and/or Taylor Moton are to this offense.

Unprecedented QB play? Passing yards and TDs are down league-wide and have been for several years now. Modern QB play peaked in the Manning/Brady/Brees/Roethlisberger/Rivers era. Patrick Mahomes numbers this year: 67.5% completions for 3,928 yards, 26 TDs, 11 INTs. Really good numbers, but far from "unprecedented."

I'm 50/50 on Higgins. On one hand he's better than anyone we have; on the other, he's sure to be overpaid. We'll see.

I'm not nearly as impressed by the interior DLs in this class as I am with the EDGE class. If we don't take Mason Graham early the only interior DL I like in the 1st/2nd round is Tyleik Williams from Ohio State. Luckily, we're in much better shape at that position than we are at EDGE with Derrick Brown returning next year. Outside of the obvious pick in Abdul Carter, I like Kyle Kennard, Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker in that order. But it seems Kennard is ranked quite a bit lower than the other two. If we're going DL back-to-back I'd LOVE a Mason Graham-Kyle Kennard combo. I'm not sure there's a combo of a 1st round DE + 2nd round DT that makes sense, TBH.

I don't see the Jets letting him go for less than a 1st rounder and I'm not giving up a top-10 pick for him.

I sometimes think, what if Bryce had played the way he has since returning to the lineup, but did it last year as a rookie? The narrative would likely be completely different than it has been with far fewer doubters. I feel like some people are holding his past bad performances against him, which on some level is fair, but when there's such a stark and obvious dividing line between then and now (pre/post-benching) it seems obvious there has been real growth and improvement. Forget last year. Forget weeks 1 and 2. Just evaluate him based on how he's playing NOW.

They deserve more time. Am I completely sold? No. But we've shown more potential this year than we ever did under Rhule or Reich.

Good lord. Even the 'best' of the offense is bad this week.

Prime Cam Newton vs Current Josh Allen
Jay Roosevelt replied to Panther8989's topic in Carolina Panthers
Cam and Josh Allen are about as similar as players get. I still think Cam was a better runner, though. -
I'm not sure how much of this is on Evero considering the lack of talent we have up front, but it probably is best to move on at this point. I tend to agree that a return to a 4-3 defense would be a welcome change right now.

Has this game changed feelings about Young?
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Compared to weeks 1 and 2? Yes, this was light years better. I'm not 100% sold on Bryce as the guy either, but the idea that the improvement we've seen since he returned to the lineup suddenly means nothing because of one bad game is dumb. It was a bad game by the entire team, but Bryce has had far worse performances. I don't think this fundamentally changes the trajectory of his career; it was one game. If you were sold on Bryce before this game, you probably still are. If you were convinced he wasn't the guy before, you still feel the same. And if you're like me and are hopeful, but not convinced yet, nothing has changed either. In any case, it was still only one game. -
Has this game changed feelings about Young?
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not really. He was still considerably better today than he was earlier this year and for most of last year. The team as a whole played poorly today; the Bryce from weeks 1 + 2 would have have completely folded and finished with like 80 yards passing. That he didn't do that is another sign of progress. -
Canales needs to divorce Evero at the end of the year
Jay Roosevelt replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
As bad as we need edge help we BADLY need help at safety. -
I like him better than Abdul Carter, TBH.
