Panthers GMs Draft History After Round 1 (Analysis)
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jay Roosevelt's topic in Carolina Panthers
1) I agree nobody after the 3rd round should be considered a bust, which is why I called that category "Busts/Misses." You can still miss on a pick without the player being a bust. 2) The point of this was to analyze the GMs, not make one look better. Personally I'm not a Gettleman fan, but he was the best of the three in terms of drafting after the 1st round. Unfortunately he's also the best at missing in the 1st round. He's also the worst in terms of overall team building and management of the roster, IMO. -
Panthers GMs Draft History After Round 1 (Analysis)

Mostly just my opinion, but I tried to be as broad as possible so the results would be as objective as possible. Basically the formula I used was: PLUS STARTERS: Good, great, or elite players who became key starters for us. SOLID PLAYERS: Decent players who were starters for an extended period of time or played key roles for us. CONTRIBUTORS : Players who were lower-level starters or who provided solid depth/special teams value. BUST/MISSES : Players who never contributed much of anything or anything at all. -

The numbers tell a different story. So do the number of wins. In that category Fitterer is by FAR the worst. -

Check the spreadsheet link; it has each player color coded. No, trades were not considered. This is purely based on draft success after round 1. Mostly just my opinion, but I tried to be as broad as possible so the results would be as objective as possible. Y'all realize D.J. would be putting up Adam Thielen numbers if he were still here, right? The OL is a FAR bigger problem than WR so far.

Would probably be an improvement. -
He'll be freezing up at the podium like Mitch McConnell before that happens.

Panthers GMs Draft History After Round 1 (Analysis)
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jay Roosevelt's topic in Carolina Panthers
6th round, actually. But that doesn't make it any better. -
With all the talk lately about possible trades for a WR and Scott Fitterer's draft record I wanted to do a little comparison between him and our other two most recent GMs. In particular I wanted to look at their performance AFTER the 1st round. Basically what I've done is give each player drafted a color grade based on how they turned out: PLUS STARTER SOLID PLAYERS CONTRIBUTORS BUSTS/MISSES I also added a couple of others that are specific to each GM, such as for players like David Gettis (possible hit/injury), Harrison Butker (hit/cut by Hurney) and one for good/solid players we drafted that never did much here but ended up playing well elsewhere. I then calculated the percentage of players drafted by each GM in each category. Obviously Marty Hurney was here far longer than Gettleman and Fitterer combined so that has to be considered when looking at the raw numbers, which is why I calculated the percentages. I did not include any players from this year's draft class or any UDFAs. I put a spreadsheet together with the full list of players for each GM; you can view it at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nbLVIrDWpvDnN5zK1e2M1XEzAMfxnOQhTX6PFvq2FoA/edit?usp=sharing My basic conclusions? Hurney may have been a little better than he's given credit for after round 1, but Gettleman was the best and Fitterer, well... ick. As Dennis Green would say, he is who we thought he was. I'd like to see how these numbers compare to league averages, but that would require a little more time and effort than I want to put in right now. The results are as follows:

“Carolina sniffing around on Jerry Jeudy”

I'd definitely be on board with Collins as a guard and swing tackle. -

I agree that Jeudy isn't a #1 WR, but the truth is we also need a #2. But honestly, if they REALLY want to help Bryce they need to forget about trading for a WR and go sign/trade for some players who can actually keep him upright. I know Austin Corbett is coming back after the bye, but we REALLY need another starting caliber guard so that Chandler Zavala won't ever see the field again this year. Not to mention some actual NFL-caliber depth. Until the OL gets it's poo together our offense will continue to struggle; no run game, no pass protection and it won't matter if every WR we have magically develops into an All-Pro during the bye week if every time Bryce drops back to pass it's 2nd or 3rd & 12 and he has 0.8 seconds to throw the ball. -
That's about the worst thing you can say about any OL
-
Damn, he killed Zavala.

Panthers are positioned very well for 2024 and on

This. Bryce IS the franchise, in an almost literal sense. -

I wouldn't hate trading for him, depending on the compensation. A 3rd rounder would be OK since they're basically throwaway picks for this franchise since like 2014. I mean, Trai Turner is literally the last good player we drafted in the 3rd round and that's over the course of 3 different GMs drafting. I won't cry any tears to trade away the chance to draft the next Daryl Worley or Rashaan Gaulden next year. -

For a 3rd? I've heard of worse deals. -
Panther Shopping for Number 1 caliber WR, Top Priority
Jay Roosevelt replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Higgins is about the only serious option I'd be interested in, but the Bengals won't pay Burns and would probably want a 1st rounder so I don't know how the deal gets done. -

Yeah, this we can agree on. For a late round pick I'd consider him but I have a feeling we're taking about more than that. -
Cooper Kupp I have serious questions about in terms of his injury. Not sure about that one.
-
Yeah, the Bengals aren't trading for Burns because they'll never pay him what he wants. I doubt Jeudy can be had that cheap and I'm honestly not sure he's worth as much as people think. He's got talent, but has never truly established himself as a #1 WR and has had injury issues. I still say the player to keep an eye on is D.K. Metcalf; Seattle has flirted with trading him in the past and might be interested in Burns.
-
Sanders hasn't been good but it's hard to put all the blame on him when the OL is this bad.
-
This is on Fitterer. I can't fathom why he didn't bring in more OL depth. God forbid either tackle or Bozeman gets hurt.
