Welp, I guess we're including Christensen in the Mayfield deal. Rhule Kiss of death has spoken.

Comparing Sam, Baker, and Jimmy vs. shared opponents last season
Ricky Spanish replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tongue in cheek really. Jimmy has two super bowl rings with the Pats as a backup. While he didn't start, I am still TECHNICALY correct. -

Jimmy is a 2x Super bowl winner, don't know what you're talking about. I think the big thing scaring everyone away from Jimmy G is the throwing shoulder injury/surgery. Big Question Mark surrounding him and his capabilities as a passer moving forward. -
Comparing Sam, Baker, and Jimmy vs. shared opponents last season

Jimmy G is the best of the 3 but also the most fragile. All three have injury concerns, and let's be honest, so does Corral. There's a solid chance we aren't seeing the game 1 starter at some point next season due to injury. -
poo you're right, I'll fix that

If this happens, the first question asked at the post trade press conference should be: "In 2020, you evaluated TB, brought him in, and it didn't work out. Last year you traded for Sam, guaranteed his 5th year option, and it didn't work out. Based off of your previous evaluations of retread QB's, what makes this one different and why do you think this one will work?" followed by: "Baker is under contract for one year. What are the team's plans for him in the future?"

Taking this with a huge grain of salt, as should you all. Just passing along the message I received.

My friend's guy says we are trying to either get the Browns to send money along with Baker or take Sam.

Hearing from a guy that knows a guy that says the Baker deal might be done by Friday. At least that's the buzz around Tepper Sports

It's fun to look at the leverage that each team has in this situation: Cleveland's leverage: Baker is better than any QB currently on our roster. Panthers have a HC on the hotseat and Baker is an upgrade at the most important position. They have another potential suitor for Baker in Seattle. Our Leverage: Cleveland needs to clear cap space for the future and rolling any savings over would be beneficial for them. They burned the bridge with Mayfield and he is never playing for them again. If no one trades for Baker then Cleveland has to eat his entire salary while he doesn't play for them next season. We just drafted a rookie QB with high upside that we like. We have a QB who costs the exact same as Baker so there's no point paying two QBs the same amount of money and playing only one. Mayfield is only under contract for one more year. Mayfield is coming off a down year. Mayfield is coming off of offseason surgery. Due to the Watson deal, CLE is hurting for Draft capital. Baker, while an upgrade, is enough of a question mark that you can't sell the farm for him. I'm sure I'm missing some points for both sides but it looks like we have way more leverage in these negotiations on the surface.

To summarize my feelings: Baker is not as bad as people on here make him out to be and is a significant step up from Darnold. Baker would make the team better immediately and is good enough to take a team to the playoffs. I don't necessarily believe he is the long term answer for us even if he is the best option for this upcoming season. I don't trust this FO to make a cunning enough trade to get him on the roster due to previous dealings and evaluations of the QB position. I would love to trade Sam for Baker straight up but doubt that would happen. Because of this, I would prefer we roll with Corral this season, take our lumps, and evaluate next year.

year two they handed the keys to the franchise to Freddie Kitchens, who was in over his head. 2020 they brought in Kevin Stefanski and went to the playoffs for the first time in a generation. Baker then got hurt and played through an injury all season in 2021. Still had a better season than he did under Freddie Kitchens. Baker is by no means a generational talent, but he's good enough to take a team to the playoffs. He would be an immediate upgrade to our QB room. My only concern is how badly we would get shafted if we traded for him. My personal opinion is that we should roll with Corral regardless. Hit the reset button next season if need be and move on from Rhule if we miss the playoffs again.

Baker is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Darnold. Darnold is the worst starting QB in the NFL. Baker is around 15-18. You can get to the playoffs with that kind of QB. Baker's injury plagued season last year was as good as Darnold's BEST season in NY. The team would be better with Baker. We just probably wouldn't be Super Bowl Caliber with him. Best case scenario for us would be to trade Baker for Sam Straight up.

Baker played with a separated shoulder all season. The narrative that his teammates don't like him is asinine. His teammates like him just fine. All the "buzz" about the rift between Baker and the team is twitter bullshit and hot take artists that stir up bullshit for clicks: But in actual reality, Newsome said: Newsome literally said that Baker was a “great teammate” and Middlekauff heard him say that the whole team hated Baker. That’s literally an hallucination. The franchise was a factory of sadness before he got there. Now, do I think he will make us good enough to win the super bowl? No. Do I think he's good enough to take us to the postseason? Probably. Is the pricetag Cleveland wants for him worth it for a one year rental? No. Baker isn't anywhere near as bad as people on here seem to be making him out to be. He had a down year because he was injured. He's a perfectly fine Starting QB in the NFL and has shown he can lead a team to the playoffs. I don't want him though because of how desperate Rhule seems to be in all of this and I'm afraid we will overpay when we in fact have all the leverage in the world right now.

An old friend is back in the building!
Ricky Spanish replied to GRWatcher's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm almost positive that's the case. From what I understood Cam signed him to be his personal dude after seeing his poo on Twitter and the like. -
My issue with BC was not that he wasn't on the field enough, it was that he wasn't on the field at the right spot enough. In his limited play at LT, he outplayed Cam Erving. When we were out of contention for the playoffs is when the Rookies and younger guys should have been implanted in the line to make some sort of improvements. It wasn't like the line was going to look worse than it already did. So with the fact that the line looked as horrible as it did when we went out and got two FA OL on day one of free agency, along with not playing a rookie LT actually at LT because of "Short arms" even though he outplayed one of the day one FAs when he did get time there, ALONG with Rhule's comments about Slater and his own issues with "Short Arms" when he went on to have a pro bowl caliber season as a Rookie makes Rhule look completely incompetent at evaluating offensive lines. So it's not really any one issue when it comes to the line, it's the sum of all the shitty parts together.

Suleiman introduced to Jeffrey Laurie (by Nicole Tepper)
Ricky Spanish replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shaq didn't deserve it when he got it but he definitely earned it last year. Between the two I'd rather keep Shaq just because we have no one of value behind him, and we have other WRs that could step up and do what Robby did last year. -

Yes but if he misses a player organized workout in Baltimore to go on his honeymoon then we DEFINITELY need to be concerned. -

All you people saying the Eagles are a QB away are forgetting one thing... They grabbed Carson Strong as a UDFA. They're set homies.
