Hurney is gone. By all accounts he was enamored with Rhule the moment his wife served them meatballs. We no longer have him whispering dumbassery into Tepper's ear. The bad man is gone and now we have Fitty Cent leading the HC search. I don't know if that's better, but it's definitely something different. Hopefully they make the right choice this time.

Every new HC candidate is a roll of the dice. You need a guy who is smart, a leader, and adaptable. I don't care who they hire as long as they check all those boxes. Unfortunately we as fans aren't in the interviews so we don't know who among the candidates checks all those boxes. Wilks to me is 100% a leader and a smart dude. I have my reservations about how adaptable he is which is why I feel like he is just Rivera 2.0.

I'm actually very happy with the list of candidates we have requested so far. Would love to see Demeco Ryans or Broncos DC Ejiro Evero. Interesting guy (Born in the UK) and did an AMAZING job in Denver this year. If their offense were even competent they'd have been in the playoffs thanks to that Defense. Also has Offensive experience at the NFL level working under Harbaugh in SF:

Jamaal Williams is a national treasure
Ricky Spanish replied to Peon Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
He has some of the best Mic'd up material in the NFL. Dude is absolutely hilarious and genuine. Packers fans still love him even though he's on the Lions. -
I have seen Ryans and Johnson have both been contacted by multiple teams not us, as has Steichen. I'm wondering if we will put in requests as well, and if so, are we waiting for them to get a little bit of interview experience before they come to us? At least I hope.

Wilks / Fitterer Season Ending Presser
Ricky Spanish replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly that should be a priority every offseason. no reason not to at least throw crap against the wall and see what sticks in the later rounds of the draft in terms of OL -
Browns rallied behind Freddie Kitchens as interim HC. He sucked. Same with Doug Marrone in Buffalo. Also sucked. That's cool that they like him, doesn't mean he's the best man for the job.

So which QB do we think will be available at #9?
Ricky Spanish replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Levis or Richardson* *If we hire an offensive minded HC like Steichen. If we keep Wilks or hire Caldwell just let them tank us into the #1 pick next year. -

"We should have traded Burns" - a rebuttal
Ricky Spanish replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
A follow up: Teams with the most sacks: Take away Reddick's 16 Sacks and the Eagles still lead the league. We as a team have 34 sacks. Burns accounts for 37% of our sacks. Reddick accounts for 24% of the Eagles'. Garret - 45% Judon - 30% Bosa - 43% Parsons - 25% Jones - 27% The only players who account for a higher percentage of their team's sacks are Bosa and Garret, two of the top 3 best DEs in the game right now. So Burns is more important to our pass rush than most DEs in the league. -

Well Brian Daboll did it with Daniel Jones so that wouldn't take much. A good coach could take current Darnold to the playoffs. Hell, Harbaugh did it with Alex Smith and Kaepernick. -
"We should have traded Burns" - a rebuttal
Ricky Spanish replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
So Reddick is around 200 snaps fresher than Burns at this point in the season. Reddick doesn't play that much because the eagles don't need him to. If we had anyone else to spell Burns, he wouldn't have to either. What could Burns do with fresher legs on a game by game basis? I'll admit it is a hypothetical, but it is my main argument. Burns can't take plays off because we can't afford for him to take plays off. This would lead to less efficiency due to more energy exhuded throughout each game compared to his contemporaries. I remember it was one of the knocks against Short when he was drafted, that he took plays off. Turns out he was playing more snaps than most DT prospects that year, so he was getting tired. Low and behold, we get him in a solid DT rotation and he flourished. I'm saying do the same for Burns. Get another pass rusher, someone that can stay on the field some of the plays we take Burns off and vice versa. Would go a long way in improving our pass rush next year. -

Would have helped our Tank, that's for sure. We'd have no one to replace him with though, and that would set us back a few years in terms of a creating a solid pass rush. -

Bull. A good HC and we can win next season. Happens all the time. Rhule was just so incompetent people forget that teams turn around year over year all the time. We aren't that far off.- 181 replies

I know a lot of people on here wanted us to trade away Burns for all those picks from the Rams. I'll admit, the offer was enticing, however I kept coming back to one question, "Who else do we have on this roster but Burns?" The answer is no one really. That's why the offer from the Rams just wasn't good enough. If we were to trade Burns away, we need a first rounder NOW to help replace the huge void losing him would create. And the void would be huge. Sure, Burns leaves you wanting in terms of run defense, but I found something out about Burns compared to the other Sack Leaders around the NFL: Burns Plays WAY MORE than EVERY OTHER Pass rusher ahead of him on the sack list: Player Snap Percentage Nick Bosa 76% Haason Reddick 74% Matt Judon 77% Myles Garrett 78% Micah Parsons 80% Chris Jones 81% Brian Burns 87% And that's including the Cincy game where he only played 66% of the snaps because we pulled him when we were getting stomped so badly. Take that game out of the equation and he's playing 89% of all the defensive snaps this year. So yeah, if he looks like he's taking some plays off, he might be, dude is gassed. It's not a conditioning issue, he is the team's only consistent pass rusher, and if we lost him we'd be completely screwed. Losing him would set our defense back significantly in terms of generating pressure against the opposing QBs. I know QB is at the top of our list in terms of need this offseason, but I'd argue #2 is finding more consistent pass rushers to aid the only good defensive end on our team this year. Even getting some average dudes in FA that can spell Burns would go a long way in helping him and our defense out. Letting him rest one more play out of 10 would do wonders for his efficiency.

Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

Rapoport and Pelissero talk head coach openings
Ricky Spanish replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was Both Rivers and Herbert's QB Coach, then got promoted to Herbert's OC. Then he went to Philly as their OC and helped Jalen turn into an MVP candidate. -

Even if he were playing mediocre, Steichen still had his hands on River's late career revival in SD, as well as Herbert's assent as a top QB in the NFL in only his rookie season. Dude coached 3 separate kinds of QBs into pro bowlers. I am intrigued. -
Harbaugh to Carolina Makes Too Much Sense...
Ricky Spanish replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestly don't want him. Yes he was an NFL coach for a period of time, but he has been in college for a good bit now, and with that comes the megalomania of being a college coach. I don't want that personality around this team anymore. I think he'd want too much control and I don't trust him. He is constantly leveraging against Michigan to get more money out of them. It's the same slimey stuff that Rhule did. No thanks. -
Say he was a dude from Tallahassee and came in as interim coach for Rhule's incompetent ass. The team played .500 ball with him as interim HC, would you really want him returning? Take the emotion and narrative out of the equation. What has he done EXCEPTIONALLY well since taking over? Other than being a professional football coach, I don't really see anything otherworldly. Retaining Wilks, to me, is a return to the status quo of Fox/Rivera, not an overall improvement to where we were 3 years ago. Keeping Wilks on after firing Rhule feels like getting back together with your long term girlfriend after originally dumping her for some hot little college biddy who it turns out you have nothing in common with so you dump her and choose to fall back into familiarity while neglecting all the reasons you broke up in the first place. It's familiar, it's comfortable, and you know what to expect, but deep down you know it's not going to last. I like Wilks and I appreciate him stepping in and coaching like a professional HC, something we've lacked the past 2.5 years, but I don't think he's the long term answer. I would prefer we rip the band-aid off and start over. Draft a new QB in the first, pair him with an offensive minded HC that he can grow with and learn from, and go from there.
