Flores isn't getting HC opportunities this go round because apparently he's a dick. He straight tried to sabotage Tua, and once they paired him with a coach who gave a crap about him then he flourished until his brain kept getting scrambled. Many players have come out not liking Flores from his time in MIA. He's still getting DC interviews. And looking at one game to crap on Johnson where their DEFENSE gave up 320+ Rushing yards and 37 points is kind of dumb, especially considering their QB threw for 355 and 3 TDs. So the run game wasn't working, something the offense leaned on heavily throughout the season and jamaal williams lead the league in TDs. OK, let's spin the rock then. He couldn't help that their defense couldn't stop us. Let's contrast that with what happened with us against Cincy, Pitt, and TB. Any game we couldn't run, we were SOL. They're stopping the run today, time to pack it in boys, no chance at winning. Can't adjust this scheme to generate some points, nope. and that was with Darnold actually playing well. I say this without having Johnson at the top of my list of candidates. Wilks is the same ol' same ol' we had with Rivera. I'm ready for something new.

Flores has actually gotten interviews this coaching cycle though. Look, I love what Wilks did by coming in and stabilizing the ship. He did an admirable job with what he was handed. The team we assembled this past offseason was good enough to make the playoffs. The coaching staff we had at the beginning of the year was not. Matt Rhule sucked as a coach so our team sucked. All we needed was someone competent to lead the team, and lo and behold, we are contending for a playoff spot once Wilks took over. Having said that, he's just that - Competent. I don't think can out plan/out maneuver his opponents. You will know what you are up against week in and week out with him at the helm. He's Rivera 2.0 in that regard: Great guy. Leader of men. Stagnant and old-school. Inconsistent due to inflexibility. Our team was so bad the past few years under Rhule, that reverting back to the old Rivera Ways seems like a huge upgrade, and it unfortunately is, but we've seen that song and dance before and we know how it ends. There's a reason we moved on from Rivera in the first place. Just because we didn't get his replacement right doesn't mean we need to revert right back to the status quo. We should aim higher.

Because we'd have to give up assets to a division rival in order for him to coach our team.

Could anything make you quit the team?

Who you pulling for tonight? Bucs or Cowboys?
Ricky Spanish replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bucs because it'd be hilarious to watch the cowboys lose. If the cowboys win it's just watching a sad old fighter not knowing when to hang them up. Then whoever the Bucs play next week they should lose handily. -
That's what I get for trying to read after training a puppy all night. Thanks to all who corrected me.

To me it looks like they're trying to get the rooney rule interviews out of the way because they already know who they want to hire, whether that be Wilks or one of the rising OCs out there. The fact they have been blasting out requests to all these minority coaches the past few days makes me think they already like Wilks to take over next season. Just my guess though. _______________________________________________________________________________________ *Edit* I can't read, it's for a coordinator position.

Johnson intrigues me, but my main concern is his inexperience, which he has less of than guys like Dorsey, Moore, Ryans, or Steichen. I really don't understand why everyone is expecting him to be a slam dunk. And I say this knowing that I would be excited he is our coach, I just don't get the optimism with him as a candidate compared to the others. Is it because he's a local guy?

There's only 1 Justin Tucker and we don't have him. The overreaction to dump Eddie after Atlanta was ridiculous. He had hit everything before that game. Had he continued to struggle the next week, or shown inconsistency moving forward, he should have gotten the ax, but he did great after that. I personally think we keep Eddie since Zane has a continued history of injury... and he's a kicker... That's kind of terrible considering no one ever touches him.

Good Job Ben, get the warmup interview in with the place you don't actually want to work so you can get some experience and improve for the one you actually want.

I'm wondering if we are bringing Mayo to not only interview, but gauge his interest in getting a DC title. The fact that Belichick did not give him the DC title would allow him to leave to get a DC job as he would not be making a lateral move.

Good point

Literally Every coach was never a HC at some point. They eventually show enough to garner a HC position. Retreads tend not to work out at roughly the same rate. Best thing a new HC can do is bring a former HC onto the staff to help provide insight and take some pressure off.

And yet he still managed to win 6 games in a season...

Johnny Hekker and JJ were robbed. -
BTW, Scot, where's the traditional Coach candidate breakdown thread? I think we pretty much have all the candidates in consideration at this point.

II think it is. He still helped bring him along and coached him up. Not all of Mahomes' game is backyard football. His highlight reel plays, yes, but the rest of the time he is a sound QB making the right reads and delivering the ball to his playmakers. 95% of Mahomes' game is Great fundamental QB play from down to down, the last 5% are the ridiculous no look/left handed passes/Scramble drill bombs that makes him the best in the league.

Kafka is slowly climbing up my leaderboards in terms of who I actually want. Apparently Reid was grooming him to take over OC duties once Bienemy got a HC job, but Bienemy never did, so he went and got an OC job with Daboll, and dude turned some chicken salad out of some chicken poo up in NY. I think they ended up being top 10 in DVOA offensively with no receivers, a patchwork line, and Daniel Jones at QB. That's impressive. Couple that with the fact he helped make Mahomes Mahomes, he learned under Andy Reid but has shown success without Reid involved unlike every other one of his disciples, and his adaptability to the atrocious personnel he was handed with the Giants, I am very intrigued.

I have a suspicion it's going to end up being Wilks. Everyone in the Media is behind Wilks for the narrative, as are the casual fans of the team from the area. That seems to be all anyone cares about. "He's from Charlotte and was better than Rhule!" Better than Rhule is not a ringing endorsement. They see the box scores at the end of it all and see 6-6 without looking at the absolute embarrassments that were Cincy, Pitt, and TB where coaching failed to produce wins. A few years back Tepper said Mediocrity was not acceptable, but I fear that's all we'll get with Wilks.

The players loved the poo out of Rivera when he was going 5-7 at the end of his tenure.

Tepper clearly wants to change the Panthers identity
Ricky Spanish replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
Damn, I didn't even consider this and I didn't want Wilks to begin with. -
Dude, thanks for sharing this channel. I love this X's and O's stuff.
