  1. it's. his. first. game. if it looks this bad mid seasons, then I'll consider panicking. If it looks this bad by season's end, I will actually panic.
  2. Won't argue against that. Bears O-Line is cheeks even if Fields does himself few favors. A whole lot easier to get better behind a good line than a bad one.
  3. I just see a completely different talent from hurts. Hurts can read the field and is decisive. Fields can't read the field for crap and looks to run more often than not. While Fields is incredible at running the ball, you need to be able to throw the ball as a QB and he has not shown the capacity to be able to do so in any consistency since being drafted. There have been no flashes of great QB play, just highlight reel runs.
  4. It is, but he also has 2 additional years of the same film with zero progression over that time period. He very well might get better this season but I personally don't think he will as I was never high on him as a passer to begin with and was never upset we didn't draft him.
  5. I think the cerebral QBs see those with a little more seasoning, but once they do, they get real good. It's going to take time.
  6. I honestly am thrilled for Tarik more than I am for us. I wanted him last season before the Achilles injury. Dude is awesome.
  7. Looks like he was running through his reads a little fast on some of those instead of letting the play develop. That happens to rookies quite a bit when the speed of the game increases. I will say it's tough to say what read progression is on some that you mentioned were wide open, so there is a chance he didn't "Miss" them, they just were lower on the progression than the other throws., we don't know since we aren't in the meetings for the offense. Still not worried. He looked like a rookie QB in his first start. Not a horrible thing. All the miscues look coachable and like they can be ironed out with more playing time. Hopefully next week goes better.
  8. The young grade is kind of bullshit, IMO. Receivers didn't get separation at all. The first pick was more a bad route by hurst than a bad read/throw by Bryce.
  9. That one is both on Bryce and Hurst, but more Hurst (IMO) with some great play sprinkled in by Bates on D. Bryce could have pulled the trigger a split second sooner immediately at the top of the route by Hurst, which would have kept the ball outside the hash and further from Bates However, watch Hurst's route. He begins to cut in at the 17 and drifts upfield all the way to the 22 by the time he and the ball cross paths. without the drift he meets the ball at the 19/20 in front of Bates and the pick doesn't happen. With more Reps together Bryce throws that slightly sooner and Hurst runs that route better.
  10. The first interception was more excusable than the second. First one was more good play by Bates than bad play by Bryce. Also probably related to the step up in speed of the NFL compared to College. Second was a bad read and a bad throw. Bates was within his field of view and Bryce should have seen him. Bryce didn't look bad as much as the offense itself didn't look good. And the majority of that looking bad was on the WRs, not on Bryce.
  11. To answer the chicken little question, we're honestly not in horrible shape long term. We don't have a first in 2024, but have it in 2025. Realistically speaking we will know if Bryce is that dude by the end of next season heading into the 2025 draft where we can then re-evaluate and take another QB if necessary. We aren't in horrible long term shape, just mid short term shape in terms of draft assets due to the lack of first round pick next draft.
  12. I agree with this without the optimism, if that makes sense. I expect the ball to start rolling for us around week 8, at which point I see us making a playoff push, but not necessarily being contenders.
  13. He ran well at the end of last season too. Looked like he is carrying it over year over year which is encouraging to see. Still don't trust him to catch a cold though.
  14. Chicago had him for a few games last year and the fans loved him because he apparently helped secure them the #1 pick. So that says something...
  15. My thoughts exactly. First pick was more a great play by the safety than a bad read by Bryce. Second one though was a bad throw/decision and like he didn't even see him. Bryce went through full field reads the entire game, which is something not many rookies can do their first game. If receivers could actually get open I have faith he'll find them eventually.
  16. Rapport takes time and I think that's what the offense's biggest issue is. They just need some time together to gel. Hell, Thielen was saying in an interview this offseason that him and Kirk were out of sync on a route they never ran against a particular coverage after 4 years together. They had to stop and discuss how to attack it, then practice it to make sure the timing was right. That is with a 10+year vet QB throwing him the ball and a guy he'd built rapport with over 4 years. Now multiply that by Bryce being a rookie and never throwing to any one of these receivers until 4 months ago. Also none of them are very great at the moment.
  17. I didn't want to retain Wilks personally but that is a completely fair argument to make.
  18. SB 50 broke me, I had kids, time is occupied by more important things. I think I enjoy the idea of the panthers more than the actual team itself these days.
