  1. ? The new rules make returns and coverage more important. Either way, there's still punt coverage. Unironically, one of the best things from Rhule's time as HC was bringing him in. He's a great ST player. Glad he's back.
  2. Brett Kollman actually broke down the reasons why it took so long, and it gives a ton of context. I too was pretty skeptical until I saw it: Played a running attack style QB in HS where his athleticism had him run for 1600 yards his senior year Both his parents died before college, father dying right before he leaves Goes to SC and gets switched to WR where he grey shirted his freshman year Covid Hits SC Changes coaching staff Coaching change brings in new offense where he has to learn new WR stuff on top of trying to learn the position after losing a year thanks to the pandemic Played behind already established upper classmen until his most recent season Dude could have transferred out of SC but chose to grind it out and earn his spot. Dude is mentally tough and gritty as poo. Coaches rave about his practice habits and teammates love him. Loyal guy. Athletic freak of nature Don't know why you wouldn't want that kind of player on the team.
  3. Right? It's like when they moved the XP back however many yards. Makes it more interesting and takes an afterthought play and makes it matter more.
  4. Even if he ends up being a 3rd receiver, it's still an upgrade on our roster with only Adam Thielen, who himself is basically a slot guy at this point in his career, and a bunch of JAGs and backups.
  5. Regarding the article itself: Canales is saying all the right things but I've been burned before. The things he's saying seem to be more directed and intentional than the BS coach speak we've heard in the past from guys like Rhule. "We need to be tougher than the other team", "I want to play fast and hard", "We will have a brand", that kinda bullshit. Canales talks about building relationships with the players before he talks scheme, he uses the term "emotional currency", which is honestly some therapist poo I would not have expected to hear from a coach, but he comes from Pete Carroll so that tracks. It's not a bad outlook to have. It's easier to coach players that know you aren't being critical just to be a dick, they're doing it constructively. Rhule lorded over the players acting like he was god. Frank preached at the players with no accountability behind his words. Canales seems like the kind of guy who talks to and with the guys on the team. So I like that psychological side of things, he seems to have the personality to be a HC. I hope he has the mind and competency for scheme and purpose behind what the team builds offensively.
  6. I don't see how anyone is complaining, it actually puts more action in the game instead of the horrible TD, XP, Commercial, return to watch a touchback, commercial, resume play that takes 10-15 real world minutes before anything worthwhile happens sometimes. It's different, people fear change, but it keeps kickoffs in the game, making them safer without neutering them and making them pointless. Sure it's a bit convoluted, but so are damn near all the rules in this fuging sport so whatever.
  7. Top of my WR list in the second is AD Mitchell. Next up is Leggette. I don't know what to think of McConkey, I think his floor is the highest but his ceiling is the lowest. I'd almost rather go DE/CB here if Mitchell and Leggette are gone and then see what's there at 39 where I'd be fine taking hi, Coleman, or Pearsall, or wait to try and double dip with Javon Baker and Malik Washington in the 3rd/4th, or aim for Jalen Coker even later (He's my favorite sleeper this year, small school guy who runs great routes and has strong hands, plays aggressive.) There are SO MANY WR prospects with upside and potential this year, it's a great year to need some WRs.
  8. If you don't start calling our players Dawgs then you aren't OOU
  9. We won't have interest in him. His X-Rays got leaked: Those who aren't familiar with the medical field may need it pointed out, but there is no dawg in there.
  10. Round 1, pick 31 SF comes up and only 4 WRs have been selected so far in the first round. Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, and Thomas are all off the board and KC picks next at 32 with a glaring need at WR. Do you try to jump KC to draft one of the remaining Available WRs in Mitchell, Franklin, Worthy, Pearsall, etc.? Looking at the draft trade charts, it looks like the deal could potentially be made if we package pick 39 with our 4th rounder (pick 101). We would then miss out on the 4th round entirely and then have two picks back to back in the 5th. Would you make the trade? What is the most you would be willing to give up in order to make the deal? Is there a WR you would be comfortable making that trade for? Is it worth the trade to get the 5th year option built into his conract? Is making sure you get the guy you want worth the potential 4th round pick given up to take him?
  11. Another one that I remembered because Smitty did a breakdown on him: Jalen Coker: Great routes, great hands, great ball skills, good at the scramble drill, average speed, small school with limited competition, mid to late round prospect.
  12. There are honestly a TON of great 2nd tier guys in this draft. Guys who would be a fringe first getting pushed to the 2nd and 2nd rounders in most drafts might get pushed into the 3rd strictly from the depth the class has. I want a guy who can get open either with speed or gets open with good routes. 2nd round potential targets: McConkey Mitchell Pearsall Franklin 3rd and beyond: Corley Wilson (Michigan) Burton Javon Baker Ja'lynn Polk A few others that are escaping me.
  13. SC Fans, why did he do literally nothing for 3 years then explode onto the scene his senior season?
  14. Mike's knees and Metlife's turf are a match made for IR. Hope he stays healthy but woof, that is not the place to go if you have lower leg problems.
  15. So you're saying that one of the best things about this collection of lineman is their VERSATILITY?
  16. I hope you all find someone who loves you as much as the saints love 7 win seasons.
  17. That one year deal will turn into a 3 year deal even if he isn't on the roster next season as they keep kicking the can down the road
  18. Man, I want young to be good because then we have a franchise QB, but I also want him to be good so everyone that jumped down his throat in this fandom can be shamed for all eternity for giving up on a player less than a year into his rookie season.
  19. For those interested in Field's stats in clutch/must-pass situations: He is the anti-clutch and cannot throw the ball when defenses know he has to. Remove the run threat and you don't have a QB. Compared to Bryce in the same situations: So not great but still better. The same people wanting Fields are the same that poo on Young for "only doing decent against prevent" when fields Can't even pass against prevent. Again, no reason to trade for Fields when he is a worse QB.
  20. I have said it before, Fields is an ELECTRIC runner, like Lamar Jackson levels of good at running the ball. He unfortunately is Jimmy Clausen levels of throwing the football. His athleticism makes up some for his shortcomings as a passer which provide highlight reel plays at least once a game, but the rest of the time he drops back to pass he looks lost. It very well could be a horrible offensive fit, that does happen, some QBs are better equipped to run certain offenses over others. Fields would probably do better in a Greg Roman style offense where they really lean into the QB's mobility at the detriment to the passing game, but that offense only works for so long and Fields would need to progress much further as a passer in order to reclaim a starting position in the league. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to LAC next offseason, or up to BAL to backup Lamar.
  21. They wanted to give him a fair shot which is good, but he just did not improve over 3 years. They took the trade because it was a king's ransom that would set them up for the future whether Fields was good or not. Like if we absolutely suck next year but BY gets hurt for an extended period of time so we can't properly evaluate him, don't be surprised if we do the same thing they did and trade away the #1 pick to some dumbass team willing to sacrifice a ton of capital for a franchise QB while we punt to 2026, give Bryce another shot, then use the draft capital to retool in 2026. Not saying I want it to happen, it just prolongs our misery as fans, but I wouldn't be surprised.
  22. He would look like absolute garbage in shanahan's offense because he can't read the field and pull the trigger in a timely manner. Granted, he could have been coached better in SF and therefor looked better, but as things stand now he just isn't a starting QB in the league.
  23. they just paid two guards top money traded for a WR and set themselves up to take BPA and BPWR after the Burns trade. They made changes already. Trading for Fields does nothing to improve our team for either the short or long haul because: a - He's not good b - they already have Bryce so it would be a waste to add Fields for a meaningless QB competition c - They want to evaluate Bryce with a better supporting cast d - Fields is only under contract for this season so there is no incentive to actually play and pay him e - it's throwing even more draft assets at a QB, something we have done enough of already f - is for friends who do stuff together g - we aren't expected to be great this season, we're going to evaluate the offense and make changes next season if necessary The only reasons for trading for fields were: a - he run good b - it didn't cost much As bad as Bryce was last season, he was still a better passer than Fields was. Fields was absolute ass garbage at throwing the ball and has been since he entered the league. He's an electric runner, but that is it. He can't read a defense, can't scan the field, scrambles into sacks, and can't throw with anticipation.
