Does anyone know what the hell the Bears are doing? Is there any reason they haven't signed any big names? I expected them to improve their receiver room and to add a big name pass-rusher.

BOLD Prediction: Defense will be Better not Worse
Krovvy replied to WUnderhill's topic in Carolina Panthers
It hinges on if they can bring in a veteran like Clowney and if Horn can stay healthy. If so, then it could be a decent defense. If not, then we're going to exposed in the secondary and pass-rush. Having a great run defense won't matter if we can't defend the pass. I'm interested to see if the Panthers can find a corner in the draft that can replace Jackson. -
Here's the most recent charts if anyone wants them.

BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns

Yeah, whatever you have to tell yourself, however you have to make the numbers work in your mind, to equate Brian Burns with DJ Wonnum.- 543 replies

He had a good season last year and as the worst team in the league the Panthers will definitely have to pay the 'bad team' tax. I expect more like 10-13 million a year. Unless he really wants to come home and has his mind made up.
-
It would be nice, but I think the Panthers will have to give him a multi-year deal. Which I'm all for as long as it has incentives in case he has another down year.

BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
Krovvy replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
No, we're not debating. You guys are trying to snipe me with dumb gotchas that don't add up to much. I said we would sign multiple bottom of the barrel EDGE players to make up for losing Brian Burns and from that we would have a much poorer pass-rush next season, most likely. You stated we could sign a 10 sack guy, named several, and that it wouldn't be difficult. The only person on this list that's possible is Clowney and it's because he's had an up and down career where every other season he's barely produced. He's a good player that's probably looking for a multi-year contract, but at the risk to the team that signs him as he could have another down season. Please stop wasting my time with your notifications.- 543 replies

Clowney had a good season last year. He's an up and down player, but a solid veteran. I feel at this point he should be ring hunting, but if the Panthers offered a multi-year deal then it would be possible to sign him. Maybe around 10-12 million a year with incentives? Three year deal?

I don't know about excited, like excited excited , but at this point I just want a draft where I can at least understand the picks and what we're trying to do. With Scott Fitterer, I felt lost almost after every pick made, or worse when we traded back leaving players I really coveted on the board. This year I just want to feel like the front office has a well thought out approach. We're rebuilding so I'm not expecting win-now moves at this point.
-
Having said that, he fits the timeline well. We're full rebuilding now, so I don't expect a fully complete or even competitive defense next year. Wonnum should imrpove as defensive ends can have a long developing career arc.

BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
Krovvy replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Here, I'll post this again, not that I expect you to read it, again. Vikings UFA profile: OLB D.J. Wonnum - Sports Illustrated Minnesota Vikings News, Analysis and More The reality is that Wonnum is best suited as a team's third edge rusher, not an every-down starter. He has 23 sacks in four seasons, but many of them — especially prior to 2023 — came on plays where he was unblocked or was cleaning up a scrambling quarterback thanks to good coverage on the back end. Wonnum's PFF grade was a career-best 62.3 this season (60 is average) after three years in the 50s, and his pass rush win rates have never been particularly impressive.- 543 replies

BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
Krovvy replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
We can sign as many bottom of the barrel guys as you want. That's what I predicted we would do and we're doing it. I said the Panthers are going to scrape the bottom of the barrel for EDGE players that other teams aren't signing. That's what we're doing.- 543 replies

BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
Krovvy replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, because he's not an every down player. From what I've read, he mainly plays passing downs. He's more of a specialist than anything at this point in his career. I don't know why I'm arguing. This isn't like some shocking revelation. There's a reason the league wasn't in a bidding war for Wonnum and why he signed to the worst team in the NFL for a bargain contract. There's also a reason why Brian Burns received pick compensation and a large contract. I'll wait until the regular season for your eyes to open.- 543 replies

This is who you said would come here for that price. No poo a guy like Wonnum will play for the Panthers for pennies, as that's his market price.- 543 replies

If we could sign Chase Young with a development plan in mind, I would be happy with it. It probably wouldn't pay off now, making a bet on our own player development, and would fit the timeline with the rest of the team.
-
I feel like Clowney would have better options than the Panthers. Chase Young though I guess would be a good reclamation project for us. I mean, the guy was once supremely talented and promising. He just didn't develop.
-
Here, I'll just post what they're talking about.
-
That chart has Clowney and Wonnum at opposite ends almost. I haven't even found Chase Young yet, damn.

Krovvy replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pearsall is such a natural, fluid, receiver. Before the trade for Diontae I would have been happy taking him at 33. I think I still would be, but if it happens it's because there's little talent at EDGE left (entirely likely). -

Krovvy replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think it's going to be difficult to not walk away with a receiver in the second round. I've started watching game cut ups and some of these late first, early second, projected receivers are very talented. This is a year where throughout the draft you'll be able to draft value at receiver, but wow some of these guys I'm watching really look the part, at the top of the second, compared to years past. Depending on how the board falls there could be an outside shot of talent falling at other positions because of how tempting it is for teams to take one of these players. Which could possibly send an EDGE player our way, hopefully. However, ff we ended up with say Pearsall at 39 I wouldn't mind it at all. -
My Depth Chart (For your Convenience--Top 10 needs included)
Krovvy replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
At this point I may be overvaluing offensive players just solely on the fact the Panthers need to see if Bryce develops. It's extremely important to know what we have with him by the end of the next season. A center would solidify the offensive line depth, aside from maybe left tackle. A tight end that could turn into a pro-bowler would be amazing, but those guys usually take several years to develop, and it's not an outright priority in my mind. As depth later in the draft sure, but I wouldn't prioritize them. There's also the idea in my mind that this defense most likely will not have a pass-rush next year and so will be very porous. Let's say we add an edge from the draft that develops into an elite player. This most likely is not going to be something that happens in one season or even two. With that in mind, with loss of depth across the board, and outright holes means I'm not very concerned with having complete defense next season. This, in my opinion, devaluates positions such as safety and to a degree linebacker. As I don't consider these 'premium' positions that must be developed in the next few years. Edge is necessary to start finding and developing ASAP, but with years ahead in mind. Talented corner depth is also necessary to find, unless we're betting on Horn being healthy from this point forward. The rest of the defense I'm not super pressed about as the weak pass-rush will be hard to overcome. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much BPA for this draft early, and almost always for that matter. If there's a blue-chip guy that falls that's a tight end or safety or linebacker and we like them, it's fine, it's great even, take them. However, I'm personally not looking for those tertiary positions in this draft as the defense at this point is far from complete or even competitive and I view keeping Bryce Young upright as the number one priority of this off-season. -
