I mean, yeah. Anyone that's watched the league long enough, and has an idea of what building a career means, knows that free agents would be dodging Carolina at all costs. The only way the Panthers will be able to recruit free agents is going to be reclamation projects or vast overpay to guys that value the bag over a chance to win.

REPORT: Panthers in the running for Patrick Queen

He didn't want to come here? -
This is some absurd levels of copium posting. What happen to wanting 'dogs'? All the hand-wringing overpaying Burns, or even Jackson, and now the Panthers will pay a half-dozen JAGs for half of the production.
-
Looks like the optimism of yesterday is gone. Apparently, not just premium pass-rushers want to come to Carolina, but also mediocre and now bottom of the barrel guys. If I had to guess, I would say the Panthers are now stuck in a position where they will have to blatantly overpay Chase Young to come to Bank of America and jog around.
-
The Huddle will love Chase Young if they think Burns was bad at taking plays off. Burns could get washed out and be taken out of the play, but Young will literally jog through his rep and not engage in a tackle right in his path. Absolutely not a dog. If the Panthers sign him then it's because they're feeling the heat and their plans for free agency fell apart.
-
The cap hit doesn't matter if he pans out, even if it's an overpay. The Panthers have to see what they have in Bryce. The cap has been climbing at an absurd pace anyway.
-
Yeah, I don't know how the team pulls out wins unless there's some serious hits in the second round. Usually, top end second round picks have about a ~20% chance at being a pro-bowl player. So, I figure that Carolina has about a 50/50 at finding a good player if they don't trade their top two picks. It's going to hurt more next year if the Panthers are picking first overall again, having to give the Bears the 33rd overall pick.
-
If Bryce turns into that guy, and the Panthers acquire a playmaker that can help them score in bunches, sure. Otherwise, naw. There's almost no chance the Panthers win a defensive game or a 'team win' type situation.
-
The Panthers traded more for Sam Darnold then they got for Brian Burns.
-
I give it about to week 3 until Panthers fans realize that any team will score 30+ on us.
-
Last time we did this we ended up with Matt Kalil. Letting talent walk for cap space just means you have a lot of cap room to dish out to free agents that are looking for the bag and not a competitive team. Those guys aren't usually the best, either being reclamation projects, or players looking to wind down their career with a payday.
-
All I'm saying is the last time we pushed known talent out the door for cap room, and similarly focused on offensive line, we ended up with the Matt Kalil contract.
-
Well, I mean, how do we win more games next season? Sure, maybe if somehow they draft amazingly and the offense somehow suddenly produces 28 or more points a game it would be possible. However, I don't think it's going to happen. The same scouts are in the building with the same basic team building management. Next off-season I think the hot topic will be trading Brown or more probably talk about a record setting contract was given to him because the Panthers don't have anyone else on the roster that's a priority.

He only missed one game last year. At this point I would say he's more available then our current corner penciled in at number one.
-
Rebuilding by letting talent walk every off-season just turns you into the old Jaguars. First in cap, top five picks out the wazoo, and a perineal losing team.

The 2025 draft doesn't look like a winner as far as quarterbacks. That's where most of the value of the number one overall pick comes from. However, I don't think the Panthers will make a massive jump, if any, going into 2026 draft. So, if you're a young Panthers fan, then maybe you can be excited for the next few seasons to be old-Jaguars esq where the team is picking top 10, usually top 5, for the next decade.
-
Or he's thinking about how much leverage he has for a mega contract as the team has no one else worth paying at anytime in the near future.
-
Poverty franchise. The Panthers are officially a talent farm team.
-
Yeah, normally I would agree, but here's the problem. When you are a team devoid of talent, devoid of any talent worth paying, then what do you have? A team of overpaid free agents and cap space to further overpay free agents.

Yeah, he's a JAG. But now he's a JAG that has to be replaced by leftovers. The Panthers are the team that didn't find a seat in the musical chairs of free agency.

Don't worry guys. I'm sure there's some real gems the Panthers can find in free agency to fill the gaps. I'm sure there's several guys just jumping at the chance to bet their career years on the Carolina Panthers. You guys better hope to hell that Dan Morgan is some draft savant, because there's no way out without immaculate drafting.

At this point I don't doubt it. However, I don't think this is how a team should be re-built. The process works if you can maintain a mix of veterans with talent and draft well. Moving on from every player that has an ounce of talent for draft picks and overpaid free agents isn't going to do anything but put the team in a further hole. Except this time the new front office will has nothing but sunk-cost to work with. A dangerous thing that we've seen happen with other teams.
