Evidence of Tepper meddling in football operations?
Tbe replied to TeppersEgos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tepper was part of the Steelers org. It is well know Art Rooney II is a silent Jerry Jones. Meddles just as much but keeps it quiet. That was Tepper’s ownership example. So far, each former steeler minority owner who has gone on to own another team has been highly involved. -
Practice fields? Are you telling me this team practices?! I see no evidence of that.
-
That has been a problem for sure.

100%. Fitt has been pretty average really. Of course, that gives us average results so… The other issue is the Panthers the last 4 years or so have had FEWER overall picks than than any other team (I’ve seen that stat several times. Trying to find the source again). Average draft performance but fewer picks is not a recipe for success. I don’t mind getting rid of Fitt, but it’s pretty delusional to think we’re going to hire some first year GM who ends up being the 2nd coming of Howie Roseman.

Most draft picks are busts, based on a study of 1996-2016 draft picks. The results, which are based on the Pro Football Reference AV metric, are: 16.7% didn’t play for the team that drafted them 37% were considered useless. They either didn’t play much or didn’t make the team. 15.3% were considered poor. Had limited playing time and didn’t do well in the time they had. 10.5% were considered average. These are mediocre players that had starts or significant contributions over 2-3 years. 12.3% were considered good. These could be mediocre or average players that were multi-year starters, Pat Elflein or Christian Ponder for example, or perhaps some genuinely good players that didn’t last all that long for the team that drafted them- Sidney Rice for example. This is where the AV metric can over-rate a player based on the number of starts, rather than their performance while on the field. 6.9% were considered Great. This category is the first that includes undeniably good draft picks. In order to be considered great, they would’ve had to play for the team that drafted them into a second contract, and also performed well over those years. 1% were considered legendary. These are future Hall of Famers, multi-year All-Pros among the best in the league for most of their relatively long careers. And so only about 8% of draft picks are players that really make much of a difference beyond replacement value, and only about 30% see much playing time or make a significant contribution to the team.

Yeah, there is no way to do this from the X app. There is only one way to get a link and it doesn’t embed.

Wahle’s primary point in his radio interview yesterday was to say NFL coaches don’t have enough time with players to fix the kinds of issues Ikey has. If guys want to be good, they have to seek outside help. Relying on team practices alone doesn’t work. He thinks Ikey’s poor technique is a clear sign that Ikey isn’t working on his technique with anyone.
-
He said that in his radio interview.
-
Wahle said the scheme excuse was being overstated. He didn’t think that was the issue.
-
Yeah, Wahle said he didn’t think Ikey was working on his technique outside of practice. Prob got a little overconfident after last year.
-
Micheal address that on wfnz. He said coaches only have so much time with players and they have to spend that time with the entire OL, not just one guy, He said to get good, players have to put in the work outside practice with coaches they hire outside the team.

Edit: I don’t know why embedding doesn’t work anymore. Mod Edit: Wait for the tweet to load before you hit submit and it will embed.

Another former Steeler’s minority owner following in Art Rooney’s footsteps. Problem is, they don’t have the experience of Mr Rooney.

Josh had a track record of not improving so he deserved to get fired. It also seemed like he lost the locker room with Adams and even Renfro. Davis is still an idiot owner though. 12 head coaches in the past 22 years. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. I think Fitt is realizing just how much Pete Carrol helped his GM all those years. A consensus GM only works when your coaches and owner aren’t complete @ss.
-
Depends. Steve Jobs once said his biggest mistakes were not treating people like long term investments. Firing someone for making newbie mistakes just means hiring someone who hasn’t make those mistakes yet. Everyone has to learn. With coaches and GMs, you have to ask is the person learning from past mistakes and are they improving? Frank seems to be doing the same things he did in Indy. Scott…well it’s hard to tell if he’s learning or not.

I’m convinced that with above average WRs Young can be VERY good
Tbe replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fitt said Chicago wanted either of the 3, and he felt finding a replacement WR would be easier than a replacement for DE or DL. He wasn’t technically wrong, they just missed on those replacements outside Theilen. Personally, I don’t think we go after AT if DJ were still around. And DJ would be filling all the same roles as AT right now. He’d be the go to guy. Long story short, we’d be crying about a lack of pass rush AND and lack of receiving talent outside of DJ if DJ were kept and Burns was delt. -
Vikings are in tank mode. They won’t trade for anyone.

Is Thomas Brown just calling plays from Frank Reich’s playbook?
Tbe replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
“But Brown said he has free range to build the playbook – the first time he's done it in the NFL, and the second time he's done it in his career (he built the playbook at Miami while working as a college offensive coordinator under Mark Richt from 2016-18). When the offensive staff sits at a conference table in his office, Brown presents his work for position coaches to help tailor details and solidify certain areas. "The first thing I really appreciate about Frank is he's let me just roll so far," Brown said. "So being able to kind of put my own stamp on it and just be with the guys in this room while he handles some stuff from a head coach standpoint, it's been awesome for me.” https://www.panthers.com/news/thomas-brown-dives-into-the-work-behind-creating-all-new-playbook -

Tbe replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brown said before the season that Frank asked him to write the playbook. Frank gave his input after the initial draft, but it’s mostly Brown’s playbook. -
Zach Taylor, Jimmy Johnson, and Bill Walsh all had 0-7 starts.

The NFL needs better research staff (YouTube / Sunday Ticket-related)
Tbe replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
Why? They are all part of the same business and rely on each other to survive. Is it weird that each McDonald’s franchise owner isn’t trying to outcompete and shut down the other franchise down the street? -

Not going to happen. Pro sports is cyclical. Team suck for a while and are good for a while. Being a KC or NE (past 20 years) is mostly luck anyway. No one is going to tie their financial future to lucky or unlucky draft picks. Besides, even the good teams everyone watches need the bad teams to fill out a schedule. Also, the players union would never agree to that since a non-even split would impact the salary cap. They don’t want some teams having $150 mill to spend while others have $250. Spreading the love evenly is in the best interests of all players.
