Sounds like a bad idea to pin ourselves in a corner. We’ll be desperate. We’d have no QB going into the year so the price for trading up in the draft or for Watson will go up.
-
It just means he won’t see official panthers updates and articles.

Are we trading these guys to stock up on picks?

It’s a chicken or the egg situation in some respects for sure, but Deshaun is known and the draft is a game of chance. Look at the last 10 years of 1st round QBs. The odds are not on our side. I would love to draft a stud QB and have all the draft capital to build around him, but those odds aren’t good. Its going to be a big challenge either way. Personally, I think our odds of landing Watson are low. The Jets can guarantee Houston the second best QB in this years draft. That alone pretty much seals it for them.

Teddy Bridgewater Unfollows Panthers on Instagram
Tbe replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
There was a report yesterday that Denver was in talks for a QB not named Wentz. I guess Teddy had a connection to the coach. Looking at it now, it sounds like that trade fell through and Denver is now saying they don’t want any mid tier QBs. Who knows. -

Rumor is Denver could want Teddy. -
The NFL is a non profit trade org. The teams themselves are essentially separate businesses. See Tepper sports and entertainment. No, the league does not have billions lying around. It’s up to each team to save for a rainy day. Many owners and families make their living off the profit from the team. Not that they can’t withstand a bad year, some may not have the cash to float the extra cap. Besides, it’s about their profit margins and the players agreements anyway. The players and owners have agreed to share in the revenue. The pie shrinks and grows for each group equally.

Look at it like this. How many first round picks will it take to find a franchise QB in the draft like Watson over the next 5-10 years? It would be a miracle to land an elite QB with our first this year. Say we trade up for fields this year (two 1sts) or get Lance at 8 (one first). What’s the chance they bust or are just meh? 60%? More? So we try again next year or the year after. There goes another 1st round pick or two. The point is, we’re going to spend multiple first rounders finding a QB either way. That’s nfl life. -

ESPN got a ton of attention on that Newton prediction. This is nothing more than trying to cash in again. -
Honestly, it’s so hard to judge individual people when your team is missing vital pieces. Rhule in his first year pretty much tied Belichick (we would have been 7-9 too if we played the Jets twice). What if he never had Brady? The bucs GM and coach would have continued to look sub-par without Brady and co. Good players matter. Good players are hard to get.

Tepper said he wasn’t going to be involved in personnel decisions. Giving broad direction to go after an elite QB (if any of that is even true) is hardly meddling. He’s just giving his guys permission to be aggressive and take risks. I know people like to make broad sweeping conclusions based on tiny bits of speculation though.

I can see that. He was just a character dev guy back then. No way he rises to VP of football ops here though.

A 2nd is too much. Trade them Grier and a 6th. Or just Grier.
