  1. It doesn’t matter if it was realistic, a vet QB was their first choice if available. Also, it is now being reported that the Texans were planning to deal Watson this week and had lined up 8 teams for a bidding war. Of course, that plan fell through weeks ago.
  2. Darnold is plan D. We got him because we had no other choice. Drafting a QB was plan B after Deshaun. If a QB they like falls to us, we’ll take him. Passing on a good rookie QB with potential just because you traded a few picks for some backup option is dumb. Sunk cost fallacy.
  3. Let’s just all agree the that owner input issue is nuanced. After all, not all ‘football’ guys are smart or think long term (talking to you Hurney) Some owners are stupid. We see that all the time. Some smart owners have quietly interfered to keep their staff from building for the short term. Rooney and the Ben pick come to mind. His coach that year wanted an O lineman instead of Ben. I think a good org needs a balance. The owner needs to stay away unless his football guys are making harmful short term decisions because they fear for their jobs.
  4. I really think Tepper is just giving Rhule and Fitts permission to be aggressive. He’s allowing them to take big bets without fearing for their jobs. They know these kinds of bets could make the team worse. They won’t put their necks out like that unless the owner is leading the charge.
  5. Tep isn’t exactly the ‘stay patient and hope for the best’ type.
  6. It all comes down to this. Some people believe you should build the team (or at least the O line) before fixing the QB position. Some think you should find the QB before putting together a team. Tepper is the 2nd type. We will spend significant draft capital on multiple QBs over the next few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if we trade down for future picks for this purpose.
  7. Exactly - What happens to a team that never drafts a QB in the first?
  8. Sims is an aspiring GM. He’s not doing it for click bait. He wants to be right. He is very down of Fields though. Doesn’t think he’s a top prospect.
  9. If they really want to take the Army approach, then I’d take both of their first rounds so they can get Lance.
  10. Not a Kiper fan, but his “success” rate is on par with most GMs.
  11. I don’t think there is any chance he turns into a 30+ mil a year QB. 20-25 max in a best case scenario. The precedent with TB is there. If Darnold sucks he’s not playing next year. It doesn’t matter what picks we traded.
  12. Giving up a 2nd PLUS 18 mil next year to a terrible QB would be a bigger dumb ass move. You don’t give a guy a guaranteed 18 mil extension just because you gave up something to acquire him. Acquisition cost shouldn’t drive retention decisions. After all, there is a significant chance this guy becomes clausen 2.0. If he plays great, give him a contract. If not, let him walk.
  13. I think the “plan” is to exercise it if Fields doesn’t drop to 8.
  14. His contract at Baylor was 62 million. This was almost a lateral move money wise.
  15. I think there could be an opportunity to get a number of great players in later rounds this year. Covid makes this an unusual year. Most teams are going to prioritize guys who played this year. Rhule and staff still have deep knowledge of a ton of college players from their recruiting days. Knowledge other teams don’t. I’m expecting there to be a ton of overlooked talent.
  16. I’d rather trade back a few times for 2 more 2nd rounders this year.
  17. Why, because he clashed with Rhule? I think Brown was a great pick. We desperately needed a DT and this years class is terrible. Hopefully, Marty’s overall record of roster building is what got him fired.
  18. That article could have been a huddle post. The guy said nothing new.
  19. That doesn’t mean the ability is overrated.
  20. Yes, but being able to fit a throw into tight windows is helpful. Sometimes the only way to make a play is to throw a laser.
  21. Having the best arm in this draft doesn’t mean his arm is special. I agreed with most of this article. Lance doesn’t have special physical tools like a Rodgers or a Cam or Mahomes and he’s never seen nfl level competition. If you draft him, you’re making a bet. To me, I don’t see how Lance is any different than Grier.
  22. I’ve met people just like that in PA, Oregon, Michigan, Maine, WA. Pretty much everywhere.
