  1. Being stupid enough to believe that was his biggest problem. Explains his bad contracts to old players though.
  2. Right. He puts in the work so not a huge deal.
  3. No, it goes back to when he talked about learning Norv Turner’s playbooks. Scott built him special binders so they could help him learn the plays because of his ‘unique learning style’. You can see one report here: https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/09/05/cam-newton-carolina-panthers-scott-turner You can tell, based on quotes from Cam himself, that learning this stuff wasn’t exactly effortless. He mentioned that 2018-2019 was the first time he didn’t feel like he was ‘guessing’ all the time. There is also this old quote I found. “I can’t learn when everybody learns, my attention isn’t as pristine as other people’s, I know that, I’ve accepted that,” Newton said in September, 2019. “Me, being the way I am, when I’m ready to learn something, it might be at 8 p.m. at night. So if don’t want to bother Scott, nor do I want to ask other people questions, I wanna know something as simple as ‘What is a Yo motion?’, something as simple as, ‘What’s Bingo?’, something as complex as ‘What is Fleet?’ or ‘Who moves on Swap Shift?’, those things I already have in my book.”
  4. Right, but the reports I’ve seen have him showing up but not actually practicing. https://texanswire.usatoday.com/2021/08/25/texans-training-camp-practice-deshaun-watson/
  5. I promise you the NFL does not want him out there. That overrides anything the Texans would do.
  6. No inside sources. One of the reporters who cover the team mentioned it at the time.
  7. New footage of Cam talking to Mac as a kid.
  8. Right, we got what was available to us in FA. The word during the draft was there were a number of upset coaches because we kept trading down and passing a OL prospects. What I took from that is Fitts has a multi year plan. We had a ton of needs and knew we couldn’t address every position, so we stocked up on picks and took BPA at the picks we got. OL happened to fall the way it did.
  9. OL has become the hardest position to find quality guys. That body type and athleticism is become more rare. All teams struggle with this position. I think finding good players outside of the draft is like finding a good QB outside the draft. Pretty much impossible in normal circumstances. Our problem has been drafting bad OL the past few years. Thank Hurney.
  10. That one guy who beat him (73) was a 2020 7th round pick. He is a bubble player who barely made the team this year and last.
  11. Yep, he was just on their squad a few days ago. He knows the playbook.
  12. CMC isn’t going to say anything negative or controversial. Ask him if he’ll host a huddle party at his house.
  13. It’s really not possible to win consistently without a stud QB. Ron wouldn’t have lasted 3 years without Cam. Remember when Ron was almost fired? I’m optimistic because he’s drafting better than most NFL coaches and that goes a long way. I don’t expect him to be some coaching savant. He needs time to grow into the role. I like what he’s doing and I’m willing to wait for results. Now if Fields and Jones end up being studs while Sam proves to be a turd, then I’ll be pissed. Until then, let’s see how this defense develops.
  14. I just listened to that podcast and that’s not really what Burns said. He said Ron was more defensive minded and more hands on with the D. Rhule is more offensive. Said Ron gave him a different perspective of the game since he played it. He could get more hands on while Rhule is more strategic and scheme oriented since he doesn’t have experience as a player. Nothing about not connecting with guys personally.
  15. The two win team got Rivera Cam. The circumstances are very different here. Tepper very much wants to emulate the Steelers. I see him giving Rhule a long rope.
  16. Fun fact. When Carrol became the Seahawks HC, people complained that he was turning the org into ‘USC North’ because of the former Trojans he kept bringing in.
  17. Coaching success in the modern era is 100% linked to the QB. Example: Was Pete Carrol a bad coach the first time around?
  18. But I learned on the Huddle that players only get experience during preseason games.
  19. Are yips a medically recognized condition?
  20. BB wanted to go with Jones and he knew Cam wasn’t going to play backup. Pretty simple.
